The political events of 1984 to 1988 in New Caledonia were a period in the history of this French collectivity that was marked by a quasi-civil and even ethnic war between supporters and opponents of independence from France.

Marked by several deaths on both sides, as well as the murder of a dozen gendarmes, the introduction of a state of emergency, a reinforced presence of French military forces and extensive national and international media coverage, it has profoundly marked the contemporary history of this Pacific Ocean archipelago.

Violence reached its peak with the Ouvéa hostage-taking incident in 1988. Civil peace was restored with the signing of the Matignon Accords on June 26, 1988.

This house is for sale as you know
I am, by trade, a real estate agent

I must warn you if you want to buy it
I prefer to tell you this house is haunted

Don't smile Sir, don't worry Madam
It's haunted, all right, but with friendly ghosts

Of monsters and dragons that kids can see
Of tears and fights and hearty breakfasts

"Finish your homework"
"my schoolbag's too heavy"
"Leave your brother alone"
"kids, let's eat"

🚨🇫🇷 FLASH - The IMF sounds the alarm over France's deficit

The Albigensian Crusade (1209-1229) was a military campaign initiated by the Catholic Church to eliminate the Cathar heresy in southern France. The first battle occurred in Beziers, close to the Spanish border.

One of the men asked: “How will we know which are Cathars?” Their leader Arnaud Amaury replied: “Kill them all! God will recognize his own.”

The crusaders proceeded to slaughter around 7,000 citizens, including women and children, even those who had sought sanctuary in the Catholic church. This horrific incident was not only the first of many in the battle to stomp out Catharism, but also the first crusade to occur on European soil. Most importantly, it was the first crusade that pitted Christians against Christians.
