The seats have very nifty details which I really enjoy! You now have an extendable coat hanger directly at the seat just by pushing. Furthermore you have a tablet/smartphone holder which I sadly can't show in use... but the upper part is a rubber coated arm which will hold the device in place, and this little tray to put it on. It has several riffles all over so I'm certain the device you put in there is securely stowed.

THAT is a very interesting difference to the BR 407! The wheelchair lift has now a dedicated set of doors, whereas the predecessor was stowed away next to a door for public use. This change is smart: I think that will increase reliability and cut the loading and unloading times, because people won't block this door anymore.

I really like this train! Punctual, modern and comfy. This journey can go on like that! Fun fact the conductor closed every announcement with "thanks for travelling with the newest ICE of Deutsche Bahn" :D

And this brings us to Cologne, where I'm on time! But a look on my schedule shows me that my next train is over 75 mins late, so I have to reschedule, and fast. On top of that were some track closures scheduled on that day, so nearly every train for Cologne was diverted somehow. And that added to delays. Heavily.

That's what my alternative ended up looking like. Might look stupid, but I couldn't make it work any other way to combine both ICE 3neo and the new HSL in one trip.

Well, but what can you do, I chose this connection starting with IC 1915. It takes me basically back towards Frankfurt, but this time not the HSL but the conventional route following the Rhine river. Highly recommend taking this scenic route at least once, the Middle Rhine is a UNESCO world heritage site!

(yeah my crappy pics don't represent that adequately >_<)

The IC2 is only legit with a cup of Aircraft Coffee :D The Intercity 2 was the first double decker train that DB introduced for it's long-distance services. Unlike before, this train does not feature a bistro. That means only this pretty unique type of coffee, which I've seen before only on planes.

I left Cologne 10 minutes late, but nothing to worry about. We got even more delayed because someone smoking triggered the fire alarm. With now 30 minutes delay I just had to wait 10 minutes in Mannheim. That came in handy because it was a pretty chilly day.

ICE 1219 departed on time, but got delayed for some reason. Well 10 mins isn't that much, my change in Munich should work. But as we arrived Stuttgart, my hype for the HSL was crushed instantly. It was announced that for an ETCS problem our train will be diverted via the conventional route. Furthermore, it will add another 20 to 30 minutes to our delay.

Well, that fricked up my plans pretty good. So I decided it was time to got get some lunch. Looks like no HSL between Stuttgart and Ulm for me today 😅 This Cider is yummy though!

When I arrived in Munich I could see my connecting train close doors and depart. So I decided to take a hotel and travel home next morning. That's what I did and now I'll wait for my delay repay :D Maybe I'll manage to take this HSL some other time. Hope you enjoyed the read 😇
