[This is a mostly technical post, feel free to ignore]

Ever since the start of Furmeet there have been questions regarding ActivityPub support. This is the protocol that powers Mastodon and would allow interconnectivity between Mastodon instances and Furmeet. Think seeing/replying/sharing/interacting with Furmeet posts on Mastodon and Mastodon posts on Furmeet.

This was thought about originally but dropped due to the lack of features that the protocol provides. i.e. It isn't possible to quote a post while sharing it and post ids are limited to 43 bit integers, which would mean implementing time and resource consuming translation layers.

Now, it seems that Tumblr might be looking into implementing ActivityPub, which, depending on how they deal with the aforementioned issues, might also open the door for us. (see quote + boost discussion)

Now, the important part:
I'd like to hear your thoughts on this. Do you think ActivityPub support would be beneficial for Furmeet? Are there any caveats that concern you? Would be nice to get some discussion going.
