New name for the Functionland Box: FxBlox

We never intended “Box” to be the final name for our product. “Box” was more of a placeholder, inspired by the product’s form and its function as a storage space for data, apps and everything else people hold dear in their virtual lives.

Our community, suggested more than 200 novel names. We liked many of the suggestions and it was difficult to choose one, 4 different members of our community suggested Blox and we loved it! It stands for Blockchain Box, it is simple and intuitive of what we are trying to achieve! After much consideration, we have added “Fx” to “Blox” to make it unique as our flagship product.

We are thrilled to announce that the first Blockchain-Attached Storage has a new name: FxBlox!

The DevKit is our hardware prototype, an 8-layer printed circuit board (PCB). The PCB is a scaled down FxBlox with the full functionality of an actual FxBlox (due to ship later this year).

📝 Why We Invested in Functionland

“Our Box is really the first physical vestige of Web3,” said Keyvan M. The Functionland Team is pleased to share that Co-founder and Director of Partnerships, Kate Withers Hess, PhD has been invited as a guest of Kathy Azarfar and Nuno Dias Martins, both Product Development Leads at the Toronto headquarters of Ericsson, for a workshop on October 13th. Kate will lead 5G and IOT Product Development Developers through, a Train-the-trainer: 2023 Trends in Decentralized Computing Workshop, that will have participants work in teams to examine:

- Strong Web3 ecosystems for potential deployment and viable web3 projects that support wireless communication for potential integration

- Weaknesses of current compute and storage protocols and applications

- Opportunities and pitfalls of web3 mass consumer adoption for consumer-facing enterprises rolling out IOT and 5G technology

- Threats to near-term and long-term product rollouts when considering cybersecurity, and the financial sustainability and community growth of decentralized computing initiatives.
