Eavesdropping And Spying

From Abee Hurayrah, may Allaah be pleased with him, that the Prophet (SallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said (translated meaning):

"Beware of suspicion, for suspicion is the falsest of speech. Do not eavesdrop; do not spy on one another; do not envy one another; do not forsake one another; do not hate one another. Be, O slaves of Allaah, brothers.” [Saheeh Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim].

From Ibn ‘Abbaas, may Allaah be pleased with them, that the Prophet (SallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said (translated meaning):

“Whoever speaks of a dream that he did not actually see will be ordered [on the Day of Judgement] to tie two grains of barley together, and he will never be able to do so. Whoever listens in on other people’s conversations when they do not like that will have molten lead poured into his ears on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever makes an image will be punished and will be ordered to breath life into it, and he will not be able to do so.” [Saheeh Al-Bukhaaree].

From Abee Barzah Al-Aslami, may Allaah be pleased with him, he said: “The Messenger of Allaah (SallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said (translated meaning):

‘O you who have spoken the words of faith but faith has not truly entered your hearts! Do not backbite about the Muslims, and do not seek out their faults. For whoever seeks out their faults, Allaah will seek out his faults, and if Allaah seeks out a person’s faults He will expose him even in his own house.’”

[Ahmad And Sunan Abee Daawud. Graded 'Saheeh' by Shaykh Al-Albaanee in Saheeh Abee Daawud, No. 4083].

A Forgotten Sunnah:

When the Mu’adhin says the Two Testimonies of Faith (in the Adhan), the listener says: “And I (too), and I (too)”

‘A’ishah said that when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) heard the Mu’adhain uttering the testimonties, he would say:“And I too, and I too”.

Shaikh al-Albani (may Allah have mercy upon him) said: “It is permissible to restrict oneself, sometimes, with the statement: “And I too, and I too” when the Mu’adhin says: “I bear witness that there is no Deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah”. Likewise, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to do this” [ath-Thamr ul-Mustadaab (1/184)]

In the Name of Allah, Who with His Name nothing can cause harm in the earth nor in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. (Three times)

Whoever recites it in the morning will not be afflicted by any calamity before evening, and whoever recites it in the evening will not be overtaken by any calamity before morning..

The mother of the believers, Juwayriyah Bintul-Haarith (May Allaah be pleased with her) reported:

The Prophet (ﷺ) came out from my apartment in the morning as I was busy in performing the dawn prayer. He came back in the forenoon and found me sitting there. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Are you still in the same position as I left you." I replied in the affirmative. Thereupon the Prophet (ﷺ) said,

"I recited four words three times after I had left you. If these are to be weighed against all you have recited since morning, these will be heavier. These are: SubhaanAllaahi wa bihamdihi, adada khalqihi, wa ridhaa nafsihi, wa zinata arshihi, wa midaada kalimaatihi

[Allaah is free from imperfection and I begin with His praise, as many times as the number of His creatures, in accordance with His Good Pleasure, equal to the weight of His Throne and equal to the ink that may be used in recording the words (for His Praise)]."

[Saheeh Muslim]

You are encouraged to memorise this short but great Du'aa:

سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ عَدَدَ خَلْقِهِ وَرِضَا نَفْسِهِ وَزِنَةَ عَرْشِهِ وَمِدَادَ كَلِمَاتِهِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

Are You Hot-Tempered?

Wahb ibn Munabbih, may Allaah have mercy upon him:

"A monk said to the shaytaan when he appeared to him, 'Which characteristic of the son of Aadam is the most helpful to you against them?'"

Shaytaan said, “A hot temper (something which can affect a man, such as anger). If a person is hot tempered, then we play with him like children play with a ball.”

Spread The Sunnah

Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Saalih Al-'Uthaymeen:

"Whenever you get an opportunity to spread the Sunnah then do so. You will have the reward of the Sunnah and the reward of the one who acts upon it until the Day of Judgment."

'How Excellent Are The People Who Have Abandoned Sweet Dreams...'

Imaam Ibnul-Jawzee, may Allaah have mercy upon him:

"How excellent are the people who have abandoned sweet dreams, withdrawing from that for which they erected their feet for. Standing up to fatigue, themselves in the dark, seeking a portion of the blessing. When the night comes they stand up, and when the day arrives they derive lessons from it. When they look at their faults they seek forgiveness, and when they think about their sins they cry and feel dejected.

O dwelling of the Beloved, where are your inhabitants? O places of sincerity, where are your residents? O spot of the pious, where are your people? O places of nightly prayer, where are your visitors? I have, by Allaah, traveled around and found these people extinct.

Those who used to stay awake at night have gone away and the lovers of sleep are left. These times have sought eating the lust to replace fasting."

The Fitnah Of Fearing Poverty

Sufyaan Ath-Thawree, may Allaah have mercy upon him:

"There is no weapon for the shaytaan against the human similar to the fear of poverty. When it (i.e the fear of poverty) falls into the heart of the person, he prevents the truth (from being manifested), he speaks with the (evil, lowly) desires and he has the thoughts of evil about his Lord."
