*The Ruling on Fasting Saturday Alone*

Shaikh Muhammad bin Hizaam (may Allah preserve him) said in his book Fathul-'Allaam (2/725-726):

"The Ruling on Fasting Saturday Alone

The Mathhab of the Shafi'yyah and the Hanaabilah is that it is disliked to fast Saturday voluntarily due to the Hadith of as-Samaa (may Allah be pleased with her) that preceded [The Hadith is the following: The Prophet said (ﷺ):

‎لاَ تَصُومُوا يَوْمَ السَّبْتِ إِلاَّ فِيمَا افْتُرِضَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلاَّ لِحَاءَ عِنَبَةٍ أَوْ عُودَ شَجَرَةٍ فَلْيَمْضُغْهُ

Do not fast on Saturday except what has been made obligatory on you; and if one of you can get nothing but a grape skin or a piece of wood from a tree, he should chew it [Graded Saheeh by Imam al-Albani in Saheeh Sunan Abi Dawood (no. 2421) and by Shaikh Muhammad bin Hizaam in his Tahqiq of Bulugh al-Maram (no. 675)]

at-Tirmidhi, Ibn Khuzaymah, Ibn Hibban, and al-Bayhaqi chose this as the preponderate view and Ibn al-Qayyim inclined to its dislike.

at-Tirmidhi (may Allah have mercy upon him) said: "the meaning of the prohibition is for a person specifying fasting on this day because the Jews venerate this day".

Ibn Khuzaimah (may Allah have mercy upon him) said: "Chapter: the Prohibition of Fasting on Saturday Voluntarily if he Fasts that day Alone". He said: "I consider the prohibition is for a person fasting this day when the Jews venerate it and for a person taking this day as an Eid instead of Friday".

al-Bayhaqi (may Allah have mercy upon him) (4/303) said: "It is as if he (ﷺ) intend the prohibition for specifying this day with fast by way of veneration"

Ibn Hibban (may Allah have mercy upon him) said: "Chapter: The Rebuke of Fasting Saturday Alone"

Ibn Muflih (may Allah have mercy upon him) said in al-Furoo': "Our Shaikh- Shaikhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah- chose the view that it is not disliked and this is the opinion of the majority of the Scholars. This is what al-Athram understood from his (Imam Ahmad's) narration. If he (ﷺ) intended for it to be prohibited to fast Saturday alone, he would not have exempted fasting the obligatory fast alone on this day. However, the Hadith is Shaath or abrogated. This is the way of the earlier Companions of Imam Ahmad who accompanied him like al-Athram and Abu Dawud".

I say: those who say that it is not disliked use as evidence the Hadith of Umm Salmah (may Allah be pleased with her) mentioned in this book. It is Daif as preceded.

They also use as proof the hadith of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) in the Saheehayn: "Do not fast on the Day of Friday except if one of you fasts a day before or a day after"

And the Hadith of Juwayriah (may Allah be pleased with her) in al-Bukhari (no. 1986): that the Prophet (ﷺ) entered upon her on the Day of Friday and she was fasting. He said: "Did you fast yesterday?" She said: No. He said: Will you fast tomorrow? She said: No. So he (ﷺ) said: "So break your fast"

The response to these Ahaadith is that it is not reported in relation to fasting Saturday alone, but fasting it with Friday.

an-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy upon him) said: "As for the remaining Ahaadith which we mentioned fasting Saturday, then all of them are reported in relation to fasting Saturday with Friday and Sunday. So it does not oppose what our Companions (i.e. the Shafi’yyah) say about the dislike of fasting Saturday alone".

I say: the speech of at-Tirmidhi, Ibn Khuzaimah, Ibn Hibban, al-Bayhaqi has preceded that the intent of the prohibition is in regards to singling out Saturday alone and specifying it by fasting it out of veneration. This is the correct opinion and Allah Knows Best"

See: al-Majmoo' (6/392) Maktabah al-Irshaad, al-Insaaf (3/313-314), Zaad al-Ma'aad (2/79), and al-Faroo' (3/123)"

And Allah Knows Best

◾️Isti’aatha after yawning isn’t from the Sunnah◾️

Answered by Shaykh Abu Hamza Hassan bin Muhammed Ba Shu'ayb - may Allah preserve him - on the 16th, Jumaada Al-Aakhirah, 1438H

📝🔹Question:

A man says: When i yawn i place my hand on my mouth and say ‘’I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed shaytaan” but someone around me at the time reprimanded me for that.

📩🔸Answer:

His reprimand is correct, as Isti’aatha from the shaytaan hasn’t been established at this place, but with regards to suppressing the yawn and placing the hand over the mouth, then that’s an established Sunnah, as what’s come in the Hadith:
(إذا تثاءب أحدكم، فليكظم، أو ليضع يده على فيه)
“Whenever one of you yawn, let him suppress (it) as much as possible, or place his hand on his mouth’’

The Doors To The Hellfire

Ibnul-Qayyim, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said:

"The people enter the Hellfire by three doors:

1) The door of doubts which led to uncertainty in the religion of Allaah,

2) the door of lusts which led to preferring desires over obedience to Allaah,

3) and the door of anger which led to aggression against His creation.

The sources of every sin are 3 matters:

- Arrogance which caused shaytaan to behave the way he did,
- Greed which caused Aadam to be expelled from the garden,
- And envy which emboldened one of the sons of Aadam against his brother.

He who protects himself from these three matters will be protected from evil;

- Disbelief comes from arrogance,
- Disobedience comes from greed,
- And transgression and injustice come from envy.

Allaah in His wisdom made every inward and outward part of the son of Aadam as a machine which, if he used properly, will complete him. The eye is a device for seeing, the ears a device for hearing, the nose a device for smelling, the tongue a device for speaking, the private parts a device for marriage, the hands a device for power, the legs a device for walking, the heart a device for faith and knowledge, the soul a device for love, the mind a device for reflection and contemplation of worldly and religious consequences and to prefer what is worthy of preference and to neglect what is worthy of neglect.

The people who lose the most are those who are preoccupied with themselves instead of Allaah. Those who are preoccupied with other people are in even greater loss than them.

In the Sunan is the tradition of Abuu Sa’eed Al-Khudree which he attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him:

إِذَا أَصْبَحَ ابْنُ آدَمَ فَإِنَّ الْأَعْضَاءَ كُلَّهَا تُكَفِّرُ اللِّسَانَ فَتَقُولُ اتَّقِ اللَّهَ فِينَا فَإِنَّمَا نَحْنُ بِكَ فَإِنْ اسْتَقَمْتَ اسْتَقَمْنَا وَإِنْ اعْوَجَجْتَ اعْوَجَجْنَا

'When the son of Aadam awakens in the morning, all of his body parts defer to the tongue and they say: Fear Allaah concerning us, for we are only a part of you. If you are straight then we are straight, and if you are crooked then we are crooked.'

[Sunan At-Tirmithee, No. 2407, Grade: Sahih]

Indeed, they only submit to the tongue as it is the post of the heart, its representative, and the junction between itself and the limbs. The statement that ‘we are only part of you’ means our salvation or destruction only lies with the tongue."

🍃 *Traveling to Seek Knowledge*🍃

💠1. Az-Zujaj said as it comes in "Fathul-Qadir" in regards to the statement of Allah (عز وجل) informing about Musa عليه السلام: {هَلْ أَتَّبِعُكَ عَلَى أَن تُعَلِّمَنِ مِمَّا عُلِّمْتَ رُشْداً} Musa said {May I follow you on [the condition] that you teach me from what you have been taught of sound judgement?}[18:66] "And from the actions of Musa (عليه السلام) - and he's from the Prophets who sought knowledge and traveled for it-is that which demonstrates it's not appropriate for anyone to leave off seeking knowledge even if he reaches it's final stages, as well as humbling himself to the one that is more knowledgeable than him.

🍃 *Purifying the Intention in Seeking Knowledge*🍃

💠1. Al-Bayhaqi (رحمه الله) said that Ibn Mubarak said: "I don't know anything better than seeking hadith for the one who is seeking Allah."

💠2. Al-Bayhaqi (رحمه الله) also mentioned that Wakeea bin al-Juraah said he heard Sufyaan at-Thawri saying: "I don't know anything from the actions better than knowledge or hadith for the one that purified his intentions."

💠3. He (رحمه الله) [Al-Bayhaqi] mentioned also that Sa'd bin Zanbur said: "I heard Fudail bin Iyaad say: 'Verily Allah تعالى does not accept the actions except for what was done purely for His sake, and He does not accept the action that is solely for Him except that it's in accordance to the Sunnah."

🍃 *Acting Upon Knowledge*🍃

💠1. Imaam Abu Muhammad al-Barbaharee said: "Know, may Allah have mercy on you, that verily knowledge is not just having alot of narrations and books, but rather knowledge is in following that knowledge and the narrations, even if one only has a little bit of knowledge and books. And the one who opposes the Book of Allah and the Sunnah, he is from the people of innovation, even if he has a lot of knowledge and books."

💠2. Abu Qaasim Al-Asbahaani (رحمه الله) said: "the People of the Sunnah said:  'Knowledge is not having a lot of narrations, but verily it is following and imitating the sahaabah and taabieen, even if you only have a small amount of knowledge. And who ever opposes the sahabaah and taabieen he is astray, even if he has a mountain of knowledge.'"

💠3. Al-Allaamah Ibn al-Wazir said: "And th
e People of Knowledge have agreed upon the dreadfulness of the actions that are without knowledge and that the fruits of one's knowledge and the reason for its honor and superiority is in acting in accordance with it."

💠4. Al-Haafidh ath-Thahabi said: "Therefore knowledge is not only with having a lot of narrations but it is light which Allah hurls into the heart, and its conditions is following (the knowledge) and fleeing from one's desires and innovations. May Allah assist us and you all in His obedience."
