Benefits Of Sleeping In A State Of Wudhuu

Hadeeth 1:

(Translated meaning)

Narrated Al-Baraa Ibn `Aazib, may Allaah be pleased with him: The Prophet (ﷺ) said to me,

"Whenever you go to bed, perform ablution like that for the prayer, lie on your right side and say,

Allaahumma aslamtu wajhee ilayka, wa fawwadhtu amree ilayka, wa alja'tu thahree ilayka, raghbatan wa rahbatan ilayka. Laa Malja'a wa laa manjaa minka illaa ilayka. Allaahumma aamantu bi-kitaabika al-lathee anzalta, wa bi-nabiyyika al-lathee arsalta.

Then if you die on that very night, you will die with faith (i.e. on the religion of Islaam). Let the aforesaid words be your last utterance (before sleep)." I repeated it before the Prophet (ﷺ) and when I reached 'Allaahumma aamantu bi-kitaabika al-lathee anzalta' (O Allaah I believe in Your Book which You have revealed), I said, 'Wa rasuulika' (and your Messenger). The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "No, (but say): 'wa nabiyyika al-lathee arsalta' (Your Prophet whom You have sent), instead."

[Saheeh Al-Bukhaaree]

(Meaning of the supplication)

(O Allaah! I surrender to You, entrust all my affairs to You, and depend upon You for Your blessings both with hope and fear of You. There is no fleeing from You, and there is no place of protection and safety except with You. O Allaah! I believe in Your Book (the Quraan) which You have revealed and in Your Prophet (Muhammad ﷺ) whom You have sent).

Ibn Hajr, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said about this Hadeeth:

"The apparent meaning is that it is mustahab (recommended) for everyone who wants to go to sleep to renew his wudhuu."

[Fathul-Baaree]

Hadeeth 2:

(Translated meaning)

Al-Baraa Ibn 'Aazib, may Allaah be pleased with him, reported that Allaah's Messenger (ﷺ) said:

"When you go to bed, perform ablution as is done for prayer; then lie down on the right side and recite:

Allaahumma innee aslamtu wajhee ilayka, wa fawwadhtu amree ilayka, wa alja'tu thahree ilayka, raghbatan wa rahbatan ilayka. Laa Malja'a wa laa manjaa minka illaa ilayka. Aamantu bi-kitaabika al-lathee anz
alta, wa bi-nabiyyika al-lathee arsalta.

Make this as the last word of yours (when you go to sleep) and in case you die during that night, you would die upon fitrah (upon Islaam)." As I repeated these words in order to commit them to memory, I said: "Aamantu bi rasuulika al-lathee arsalta (I affirm my faith in Your Messenger (Rasuul) whom You sent)." He said: "Say: 'Aamantu bi-nabiyyika al-lathee arsalta (I affirm my faith in your Prophet (Nabi) whom You sent).'"

[Saheeh Muslim]

(Meaning of the supplication)

(O Allaah! I surrender to You, entrust all my affairs to You, and depend upon You for Your blessings both with hope and fear of You. There is no fleeing from You, and there is no place of protection and safety except with You. I believe in Your Book (the Quraan) which You have revealed and in Your Prophet (Muhammad ﷺ) whom You have sent).

An-Nawawee, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said:

"If a person has wudhuu, that is sufficient for him because the intent is to go to sleep having wudhuu, incase he dies in his sleep, and so that the shaytaan will be less likely to play with him in his dreams and terrify him."

[Explanation Of Saheeh Muslim]

Hadeeth 3:

Abuu Hurayrah, may Allaah be pleased with him, reported: The Messenger of Allaah ﷺ said, “Whoever retired for the night in a state of purity, an Angel will reside with him in his bed. He will not awaken for an hour in the night but that the Angel says: 'O Allaah, forgive this servant of yours, for he retired in a state of purity.'"

▪️Offering 4 voluntary units before 'Asr? ▪️

Our Shaykh, Muhammad ibn Hizaam -may Allaah preserve him- was asked the following question:

📩 Question:

The questioner says: Is there any authentic hadeeth reports on praying four Rak'ahs before ‘Asr as well as four before Dhuhr?

📝 Answer:

Regarding four before ‘Asr, then the Hadeeth concerning this is not authentic; the most authentic report to have come in this regard is the narration of Ibn 'Umar, reported by Abu Dawud, that he ﷺ said :
((رحم الله امرأ صلى قبل العصر أربعا))
"May Allaah have mercy on a person who prays four Rakaat before ‘Asr"

However, this Hadeeth is Mu'all (defective); Ibn ‘Adi dismissed it in ‘Al-Kaamil’, and the hadeeth itself is not authenticate; it has been rejected from some of the narrators.

Our Shaykh, Shaykh Muqbil -may Allaah have mercy on him- included this Hadeeth in his 'Saheeh Al-Musnad'; perhaps he didn't come across it in Ibn 'Adi's 'Al-Kaamil', because our Shaykh -may Allaah have mercy upon him- would abandon any Hadeeth cited by Ibn 'Adi in 'Al-Kaamil' and would not include it in his book.

As for the four (voluntary) units before Dhuhr, then this is authentically established in 'Sahih Bukhari' on the authority of 'Aa'ishah -may Allaah be pleased with her- that the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ would never leave off praying four units before Dhuhr and four after it.
There are other reports which also indicate this.

The 'Allaamah Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzan -may Allah preserve him- was asked:

Purchasing camera phones for children and the adolescent

📩Question:-

Is it permissible for me as a parent to search through the mobile phone and computer of my children out of fear that it may contain something [unbefitting]?.

📝Answer:-

Yes, it is obligatory upon you to check and search through it, and like what I have previously mentioned don’t buy for them mobile phones which are used for more than making and receiving calls, [these phones] expose them to indecency, trials and impermissible things.
Do not purchase these devices for them.

📩 Question 2:-

Some of the people say that this action of the father falls under the prohibited spying, so do they have an angle [that is correct] in regards to this statement?

📝Answer:-

This type of speech is falsehood, the father has a duty in cultivating and protecting his children and to safeguard them, this is not from spying [rather] it is from establishing that which Allah obligated upon him. There are currently calamities taking place where by the people are saying,

‘’Don’t say nothing to your children nor your wife nor your daughters this is domestic abuse! Leave them to do as they please, they are free, don't involve yourself in their affairs; doing so is domestic abuse!’’

There is no might or power except with Allah

They want the situation to be that nobody performs their obligations and for everyone to do as they please.

▪️A doubt surrounding free-mixing▪️

📝🔹Question:

What's the response to the one who says, free-mixing in the universities is permissible because it's the same as the mixing which takes place in markets, streets, transport systems, etc.

📩🔸Answer:

If this is what the Salaf understood from the texts, they would have (completely) prohibited free-mixing (outdoors) on the roads and on their travels just as they prohibited it in their own homes.

This is in fact a weak doubt.

There's a difference between one who knows for sure that he will be intermixing with women on an hourly, daily, monthly or yearly basis, voluntarily, and between one who is sometimes faced with this unexpectedly without him intending.
So reflect deeply over this.

▪️Islamic Banks?▪️

Our Shaykh, Muhammad ibn Hizaam -may Allaah preserve him- was asked the following question:

📩 Question:

The questioner says: What is the ruling concerning these so-called 'Islamic Banks' which buy a house on your behalf for let's say fifty thousand dollars, then sell it back to you for eighty thousand?

📝 Answer:

This transaction is impermissible, because not only is it a ploy to get around Ribaa, it actually falls under a category from the categories of Ribaa.

The Prophet ﷺ forbade utilising ploys in order to commit Haraam, saying:
((لا ترتكبوا ما ارتكبت اليهود فتستحلوا ما حرم الله بأدنى الحيل))
"Do not do as the Jews did, making Halaal what Allaah has made Haraam utilising the lowest ploys." [Hadeeth Abu Hurayrah, reported by Ibn Battah]

So this bank, instead of loaning you fifty thousand and telling you to pay back eighty thousand (which is clear Ribaa), they have (utilised a ploy to get around that and have) said, we'll buy it, then sell it to you. And this itself is undoubtedly forbidden and falls under Ribaa, because they did not make this purchase except to sell it to you, which is why they set up a contract and got you to agree to it beforehand, such that you are compelled to purchase it from them. So they only bought it to profit from you.

Some of these banks may even sell it to you before actually making a purchase! So they agree a contract with you first, then go and buy it! So essentially, they've sold you something which they themselves do not own, and the prophet prohibited from selling something which you do not own, as well as profiting from something which you have not yet grasped and taken into your possession. Meanwhile, this bank has sold you something which they don't even own, let alone having taking it under their possession.

So aside from being a diversion to Ribaa, these types of transactions are in themselves Haraam. So anyone who says they are permissible, is greatly mistaken! He has made a grave mistake!

▪️A short opening supplication that all should memorise▪️

Our Shaykh, Muhammad ibn Hizaam -may Allaah preserve him- was asked the following question:

📩 Question:

The questioner says: When does the one praying say the following words:
'اللهُ أَكْبَرُ كَبِيرًا وَالْحَمْدُ للهِ كَثِيرًا وَسُبْحَانَ اللهِ بُكْرَةً وَأَصِيلاً'
"Allaah is truly Great, praise be to Allaah in abundance. Glory be to Allaah in the morning and the evening."

📝 Answer:

This is from the established supplications that's recited at the start of the prayer (after the opening Takbeer), as is reported in Saheeh Muslim on the authority of Ibn 'Umar -may Allaah be pleased with him- that a man recited this invocation so the prophet ﷺ said:
((عجبت لها فتحت لها أبواب السماء))
"It amazed me, for the gates of heaven were opened for It."

I heard him say: *All the painters who make pictures would be in the fire of Hell. The soul will be breathed in every picture prepared by him and it shall punish him in the Hell,* then he (Ibn 'Abbas) said: If you have to do it at all, then paint the pictures of trees and lifeless things; and Nasr b. 'Ali confirmed it. [Muslim Hadith No. 2109]

🍁Anas b. Malik said: I was sitting with Ibn 'Abbas when he gave religious verdicts but he did not say that it was Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) who had said that. However when a man said to him (Ibn 'Abbas): I am the painter of these pictures. Ibn 'Abbas said: I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: *He who painted pictures in the world would be compelled to breathe soul in them on the Day of Resurrection, but he would not be able to breathe soul (in them).* [Muslim Hadith No. 2110]

▪️"Oh Allah, do not hold me to account for what they say, make me better than what they think of me and forgive me for that which they do not know"▪️

Answered by Shaykh Abu Hamza Hassan bin Muhammed Ba Shu'ayb - may Allah preserve him- on the 26th, Thil-Qi'dah, 1438H

📝🔹Question:

Oh Shaykh Aba Hamza, what is the supplication which is said when having been praised?
And is the narration from Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, saying: "Oh Allah, do not hold me to account for what they say, make me better than what they think of me and forgive me for that which they do not know", when someone praised him authentic?

📩🔸Answer:

The chain of narration leading to Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, is not authentic, but its attribution to the salaf, without specifying it to a person, is authentic.

On the authority of 'Adiy bin Artaah, from a person who was in their midst, to have said: when they [i.e the salaf] would be praised and it fell on their ears they would say: "Oh Allah, do not hold me to account for what they say, forgive me for that which they do not know".

And the wording "make me better than what they think of me" is not present in this.
This narration is found with Ibn Abi Shaybah with an authentic chain of narration, likewise with Al-Bukhari in (Adab-ul-Mufrad) with the wording: "A man [would]..."

Likewise this statement has been said by Imaam Ahmed bin Hanbal.
Al-Marwudhi mentioned in (War') 494:
"I said to Abu 'Abdillah [Imaam Abu 'Abdillah Ahmed bin Hanbal]: "some of the Muhadith's have mentioned to me that Abu 'Abdillah does not only have zuhd (asceticism) in regards to Dirham's [i.e wealth] but rather people [generally]", whereby he, Abu 'Abdillah, replied: "who am i to have zuhd regarding the people, when the people want to have zuhd in my regards", and then Abu 'Abdillah said: "i ask Allah to make me better than what they think of me and to forgive me for that which they do not know." Follow up question from the previous Fatwa on Hijaamah:

📩 Questioner:

How do we understand the Hadeeth of Abu Juhayfah reported by Bukhaari, that he hired the services of a Hijaamah practitioner (Hajjaam) and then commanded for his Hijaamah kit to be destroyed, so when he was asked about that he said: "The Prophet ﷺ forbade the price of blood."?

📝 Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Hizaam:

Abu Juhayfah -may Allaah be pleased with him- derived from this Hadeeth (based on his own Ijtihaad), the prohibition of charging for/ making a living from Hijaamah. This is why he destroyed the Hijaamah kit. However, in reality the meaning of this hadeeth (prohibiting the price of blood) pertains to selling blood itself - not charging for Hijaamah. So blood is haraam, i.e. consuming blood is Haraam, as Allaah said:
{حُرِّمَتۡ عَلَیۡكُمُ ٱلۡمَیۡتَةُ وَٱلدَّمُ}
"Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood..." [Surat Al-Ma'idah 3]

Therefore selling blood is also haraam. So what's correct is that the prohibition in this hadeeth has nothing to do with Hijaamah.

📩 Questioner:

How about the statement of the prophet ﷺ:
((ثمن الكلب خبيث، وكسب الحجام خبيث))
"The price of a dog is Khabeeth, and the earnings of a Hajjaam is also Khabeeth."
[Reported by Muslim]

As well as the hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah that: "the prophet ﷺ forbade the earnings of the Hajjaam and the prostitute." [Reported by Ahmad, Nasaa'ee and Ibn Maajah]

📝 Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Hizaam:

Yes, the Hadeeth is reported by Muslim from the authority of Raafi' ibn Khadeej. But all this hadeeth indicates, is that earnings from Hijaamah is repugnant - and this repugnance does not mean it's Haraam, rather it merely means that it's Makrooh (disliked), just as consuming onion and garlic is repugnant, i.e. repugnance indicating dislike - not that it's Haraam.

Otherwise it is reported in Bukhaari and Muslim from the hadeeth of Ibn 'Abbaas that the Prophet ﷺ got someone to perform Hijamah for him and then payed him for his service, so if it was Haraam, the prophet ﷺ would not have given him anything. Similarly, it comes in the Hadeeth of Anas reported by Bukhaari and Muslim that the prophet ﷺ had Hijaamah done and then rewarded the person by giving him some food.
So the statement of the Prophet ﷺ
"The earnings of a Hajjaam is Khabeeth" - Khabeeth here means Mustaqdhar (repugnant) - not that it's Haraam.

In the same way, the prohibition found in the hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah cited by the questioner, suggests that it's Makrooh (disliked).
