It Is Not Medically Correct That When A Person Breaks His Fast He Has Dinner Right Away As How Many People Do [Nowadays] – Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen

A Health Benefit

Ash-Shaykh Muhammad bin Saalih al-Uthaymeen, rahimahullah, said:

“It is not medically correct that when a person breaks his fast he has dinner right away as how many people do [nowadays]. However, what is medically necessary [here] is that you give your stomach a small amount since it has become empty.”

[Sharhu Riyadhis Saliheen (289/5)]. End quote.

Don't forget, if you're able, try and fast the three white days of the month which is from the Sunnah.

The white days (Al Ayyam al-Beed) will fall on:

13th – Thursday 18th April
14th – Friday 19th April
15th – Saturday 20th April

'Abdullah bin 'Amr bin Al-'As (May Allaah be pleased with them) reported:
The Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) said, "Observing Saum (fasting) on three days of every month is equivalent to a full month's fasting."

[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

The Imaam's Forehead Should Touch The Ground Before You Leave The Standing Position

From 'Abdullaah ibn Yazeed al-Khatmi Al-Ansaaree (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said: "'Al-Baraa ibn 'Aazib - and he is not a liar - narrated to us saying;

Whenever the Messenger of Allaah, salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, said 'sami'allaahu liman hamidah, we (his companions) would not leave the standing position for the sujuud position until the Messenger of Allaah, salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, had placed his forehead on the ground, it was then that we would prostrate after him."

[Saheeh Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim]

Commenting of this Hadeeth, Shaykh Al-Albaanee (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: "The majority of those who pray do not follow what this Hadeeth contains in not leaving the standing position until the imaam puts his forhead and nose on ground. I do not exempt anyone even those who hasten to follow the sunnah.

"(People make this mistake) because of their ignorance of (this Hadeeth) or because of lack of attention to it..."

The Religion Of Islaam Is Appropriate For Every Time, Place And Condition

Allaah says:

"To whomsoever among you who wills to walk straight."

[Al-Quraan 81:28]

Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Saalih Al-'Uthaymeen:

"Here, the Arabic noun for the verb used is اِسْتِقَامَة (istiqaamah) which means 'moderation.' And there is nothing more moderate or just than the justice found within Allaah's Legislated religion. Previous legislations were suitable for earlier nations, appropriate for their time, place, and circumstances. Likewise, after the mission of the Messenger Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم), the Legislation he brought is suitable and applicable to those to whom he was sent – everyone from the beginning of his mission until the end of this world.

There is a well-known saying in our religion: The religion of Islaam is suitable and ensures the well-being of every time, place, and circumstance. When people stick to it, Allaah corrects the affairs of creation.

Consider that a person is instructed to pray standing. If he is unable to stand, then sitting, and if unable to sit, he may pray lying down. In this way, the religion is suitable and easily applied — and progressive — according to the circumstances of each individual. This religion is appropriate for every time, place, and condition.

Similarly, someone who washes for prayer may use water if he is able or has it. Otherwise, he may use clean sand or even pray without washing at all. This is because Allaah's religious Legislation, all of it, is based on moderation and justice. There is no unfairness, discrimination, oppression, strictness or hardship in it. For this reason, Allaah refers to it as 'the straight path'.

The opposite of this istiqaamah, this moderation or 'straightness,' is deviation – deviation to the side of extremism and intolerance or deviation to the side of negligence and slackness. So people follow three different paths regarding the religion of Allaah:

1) the path of extremism, intolerance, or extravagance;

2) the path of negligence and carelessness,

3) the path of moderation between the two extremes. This third path is the 'the straight path', the praiseworthy manner of following the religion of Allaah.

As for the first and second paths, extremism and negligence, both lead to destruction. They destroy their followers with excessiveness or negligence. For example, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) forbade people from going to the extreme of intolerance and harshness; he said:

هَلَكَ الْمُتَنَطِّعُونَ ، هَلَكَ الْمُتَنَطِّعُونَ ، هَلَكَ الْمُتَنَطِّعُونَ

'The harsh ones are destroyed, the harsh ones are destroyed, the harsh ones are destroyed.'

[Saheeh Muslim, No. 2670]

Imaam An-Nawawee, in his explanation of Saheeh Muslim, explained the Arabic word in the Hadeeth المُتَنَطِّعُوْن (al-Mutanatti'uun), to mean, 'The extremists who go beyond the limits in their statements and actions.' In another Hadeeth collected by Muslim, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:

إِنَّ اللَّهَ رَفِيقٌ يُحِبُّ الرِّفْقَ ، وَيُعْطِي عَلَى الرِّفْقِ مَا لا يُعْطِي عَلَى الْعُنْفِ

'Indeed, Allaah is gentle and loves gentleness. He gives due to gentleness that which he does not give due to harshness.'

[Saheeh Muslim, No. 2593]

Harshness brings about hardship and causes people to leave the religion of Allaah (عز و جل). The other extreme, that of negligence and carelessness, has also been criticized. Allaah says, describing the hypocrites:

'...And when they stand up for the prayer, they stand with laziness and to be seen of men, and they do not remember Allaah but little.'

[Al-Quraan 4:142]

The religion of Allaah is one of moderation, between extremism and negligence, and this is why Allaah says:

لِمَن شَاءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَسْتَقِيمَ

"To whomsoever among you who wills to walk straight."

[Al-Quraan 81:28]
Whoever wills to take this path, let him not deviate right or left. He should constantly remain straight on his religion. As for this 'straightness' as it relates to behaving with the Creator — which is to worship Him alone — it also relates to one’s behavior with his Creation. So your character towards people should be between these two extremes. Neither be harsh, intolerant, and overly strict; nor be careless, or behave as inferior or feeble. Rather, behave with seriousness though with leniency toward others.

Some scholars used to advise judges to be lenient yet without weakness, strong yet without harshness. One’s leniency and gentleness should not lead him to become weak, yet one’s strength should not lead him to behave harshly with others. Instead, a person should be lenient but not weak, strong without harshness so that he achieves moderation in all his affairs.

You find some people always acting rough, inflexible, or confrontational as if he is above everyone else. This is wrong. Others you see them among people as if they were worthless, so humble that they belittle themselves. They behave totally indifferent or as if they have no dignity. This is also wrong.

People should be between the two extremes as was the guidance and character of the Prophet He was tough in situations which called for that, gentle when gentleness was appropriate. So we should try to behave with others with seriousness and determination yet also with leniency and mercy."

Knowledge Is Something Masculine. None Love It Except The Male Amongst The Men, And The Female Amongst Them [i.e men] Dislike It

A statement by imaam Az-Zuhree, may Allaah have mercy upon him. Being the dunyaa (worldly life) is given the description of feminine characteristics, Islamic knowledge was given an opposite description being that it requires strong characteristics to bear and pursue, and those who are soft and aren’t tough enough to bear the obstacles of seeking knowledge are referred to having some of the characteristics of the females. Allaahul-Musta’an.

A person would need to man up to seek knowledge and to have a strong personality.

Mentioned by Abuu Fajr 'Abdul-Fattaah Ibn 'Uthmaan

Some lines which are ascribed to al-imaam Shaafi’ee, may Allaah have mercy upon him, and to others:

أخي لن تنال العلم إلا بستة سأنبیك عن تفصیلها ببیان

ذكاء وحرص واجتهاد وبلغة وصحبة أستاذ وطول زمان

“My brother you will not attain knowledge except with six things. I will inform you of their explanation with clarification.

Intelligence, eagerness, seriousness, and what will suffice a person’s needs [i.e. something of sustenance/livelihood], and accompanying a teacher and a long time."

End quote.

Translated by Abuu Sulaymaan Faisal Ibn 'Abdul-Qaadir Ibn Hassan

Ascribed to al-imaam Shaafi’ee, may Allaah have mercy upon him:

ومن لم يذق ذل التعلم ساعة * تجرع ذل الجهل طول حياته

"Whoever does not taste the humility of learning, even for an hour will drink the humility of ignorance for the rest of his life.

For him who misses out on learning in his youth, then announce four takbeers over him, for his death is due."

The ruling on one who does not pray except for Friday prayers.

❍ • The Allâmah AbdulAziz ibn Bâz may Allâh have mercy upon him:

الســـ☟ــــــــــــؤال :

📤 هناك رجل يصلي صلاة الجمعة فقط دون أن يصلي بقية الفروض هل تقبل صلاته؟

Ques☟tion:

📤There is a man who prays the Friday prayers only, without praying the rest of the obligatory prayers. Is his prayers accepted?

Ans☟wer:

📥 His prayers are not accepted, because of that he has become a disbeliever through this. So his Friday prayers, his fasting and all the rest of his actions are invalid.

{But if they had joined in worship others with Allah, all that they used to do would have been of no benefit to them} (Surah Al-Anaam 88)

{And whosoever disbelieves in the Oneness of Allâh and in all the other Articles of Faith [i.e. His (Allâh's), Angels, His Holy Books, His Messengers, the Day of Resurrection and Al-Qadar (Divine Preordainments)], then fruitless is his work, and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers} (Surah Al-Mâeda 5)

So whoever disbelieves a major disbelief or a major shirk, then all his actions are fruitless. We ask Allâh for Al-'Aâfiyah, and leaving off the obligatory prayers is a major kufr.

Breaking The Fast As Soon As The Sun Sets [The Sunnah Of Fasting]

Sa’eed Ibnul-Musayyib, may Allaah have mercy upon him, reports from his father,

“I was once sitting with ʿUmar when a group of people arrived from Ash-Shaam. ʿUmar enquired about them and how they were; he asked, ‘Do the people of Ash-Shaam hasten to break the fast.’ He said, ‘Yes.’ [ʿUmar] said, ‘They will not cease to remain upon good as long as they do this, and do not wait for the stars [to come out] as the people of Iraaq do.’”

[ʿAbdur-Razzaaq As-San’aanee, Al-Musannaf, 4:225]

‘Amr Ibn Maymuun Al-Awdee, may Allaah have mercy upon him, reports, “The Companions of Muḥammad – Allaah's peace and blessings be upon him – used to be the quickest to break the fast and the slowest in taking the pre-dawn meal.”

[ʿAbdur-Razzaaq As-San’aanee, Al-Musannaf, Pg. 226]

Ibnul-Musayyib, may Allaah have mercy upon him, also reports that ʿUmar wrote to the commanders of the various regions, ‘Do not be of the procrastinators when breaking the fast, and nor of those who wait for the stars before they start praying [al-maghrib].’

[ʿAbdur-Razzaaq As-San’aanee, Al-Musannaf, Pg. 225]

Muusaa Ibn Anas, may Allaah have mercy upon him, reports that Anas [Ibn Maalik] used to have his slave-girl go to the top of his house, instructing her, ‘When the horizon becomes even (evenly lit, marking sunset), tell me.’

[Ibn Abee Shaybah, Al-Musannaf, 2:430]

Abuu At-Tiyaah Ad-Daba’ee, may Allaah have mercy upon him, reports that “he used to break fast with Ibn ‘Abbaas during Ramadhaan. When evening approached he would send a girl from his household to the roof [to look out], and when the sun set he would make the call to prayer (athaan). He would eat with us, and when he had finished, the call for the commencement of prayer {iqaamah) would be given, and he would pray, and we would pray with him.”

[Ibn Abee Shaybah, Al-Musannaf, Pg. 429]
