WHAT TO SAY AFTER THE RECITATION OF THE QURAN

Sheikh ʿAbdul-ʿAzīz ibn Bāz said:
“Many people have become accustomed to saying: ‘ṢadaqAllāh-ul-‘Adhīm’ when they finish reciting the Qurān Al-Karīm, But this act is baseless and it should not be taken as a custom. Rather, according to the principles of Sharī'ah (Islāmic law), it is a type of Bid’ah.

[Majmūʿ al-Fatāwá 24/410]

An Abandoned Sunnah after Reciting the Qur'ān

It is preferred on finishing the recitation of the Qur'ān to say:

سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، أشهد أن لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ، أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ

The evidence for this is as follows:

Aaishah - may Allāh be pleased with her - mentioned that:

The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was never in a sitting, never recited the Qur'ān, nor did he ever offer a prayer, except that he ended them all with certain words.

She added:

''So I said to him, O Messenger of Allaah, I noticed that you never are in a sitting, nor do you ever recite the Quraan, nor observe a Salaat, except that you end off with these words''.

He replied by saying, ''Yes''.

''Whoever has said good (words) would have them placed as a seal over the good he has done and whoever has said evil (words) would have them used as an expiation for the evil he uttered''.

(They are):

Unfortunately, these days the majority of the people (except those Allaah blesses) have abandoned this Sunnah (either due to ignorance of it or due to forgetfulness).

After reciting the Quran, they replaced this sunnah with:

Sadaqallaahul adheem or kissing the Quraan.

Thus, it is incumbent upon us to spread this sunnah so it can be established once again.

Imām An-Nasā'ee named the chapter of this hadeeth in his book as "What to conclude the recitation of the Qur'ān with."

Its isnaad is authentic as explained by An-Nasā'ee in "As-Sunan Al-Kubrā".

Ibn Hajar also mentioned in "An-Nukat" (733/2) that its chain of narration is authentic.

Al-Albānī equally said in "Silsilat As-Saheehah" (495/7) that "this is also an authentic chain that conforms with the conditions of Imām Muslim."

Sheikh Muqbil Al-Wādi’ee mentioned in "Al-Jāmi’ As-Saheeh Mimmaa Laysa Fi As-Saheehayn" (128/2) that "this is an authentic narration"

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "The Jews and the Christians do not dye (their grey hair), so you shall do the opposite of what they do (i.e. dye your grey hair and beards).

The Two Jihaads Of The Self In Ramadhaan

Al-Haafith Ibn Rajab, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said:

اعلم أنَّ المؤمنَ يجتَمعُ له في شَهر رمضَان جهادَان لنَفْسِه: - جهادٌ بالنَّهار على الصِّيام ، - وجهادٌ باللَّيل على القيام ، فمَن جمعَ بينَ هذَيْن الجهادَين ، ووَفَّى بحُقُوقهما ، وصَبَر عليهما ، وفَّى أجرَه بغَير حسَابٍ.

"Know that in the month of Ramadhaan there are two jihaads of the self which take place for the believer: jihaad of the daytime with fasting, and jihaad of the night time with standing for prayer. So whoever gathers between these two jihaads, fulfills their rights, and is patient with them, then he is given his reward without limit."

[Khutbah]: Stop Being Lazy in the Month of Ramadan by Abu Fajr AbdulFattaah bin Uthman
Madrasatuna || مدرستنا
Video
It was narrated from 'Ā'ishah -raḍhiyallāhu ‘anhā- that she said:

"O Messenger of Allāh, what should I say in my supplication if I reach Laylatul-Qadr?"
He said: "Say: 'Allāhumma innaka 'afuwwun tuḥibbul-'afwa, fa'fu 'anni
(O Allāh, You are Forgiving and love to forgive, so forgive me).'"

Reported by Tirmithī (8025) | graded "Ṣaḥīḥ" by Sheikh Albāni in Silsilah Aṣ-Ṣaḥīḥah
______

There must be a reason why the Prophet ﷺ specified this du'ā, so let's reflect over the meanings contained in these concise words...

The word ‘Afw (pardon/wellbeing) entails:

1⃣ - wellbeing in one's limbs

2⃣ - wellbeing in one's religion

3⃣ - pardon and forgiveness from Allāh

Wellbeing in one's limbs is that the person is cured and saved from all sorts of illnesses.

Wellbeing in one's religion is that the person is given success to perform righteous deeds.

Pardon & forgiveness from Allāh is that He overlooks and pardons a person by erasing their sins and not punishing them.

Additionally, from the linguistic meanings of "Al 'Afw" is:
increment and abundance.

So ‘Afw in wealth refers to it’s increment, just as Allāh ﷻ said:

{یَسۡـَٔلُونَكَ مَاذَا یُنفِقُونَۖ قُلِ ٱلۡعَفۡوَ}

“They ask you [O Mūḥammad ﷺ] what they should spend, Say, Al 'Afw”
[Sūrah Al-Baqarah 219]

i.e. that which is surplus to one's necessary expenditure.

And Allāh's ‘Afw is that He grants a person what he asks for AND MORE.

So let us increase in repeating this du'ā without slackening - especially during these blessed nights.

((اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي))

“O Allāh, You are the One Who pardons and loves to pardon, so pardon us.”

Advice On How To Seal The Month Of Ramadhaan

Al-'Allaamah Ibn Baaz, may Allaah have mercy upon him:

"It's appropriate that a believer be eager to seal [the month] with the best that he is able to of remembering Allaah [on his tongue and heart]; seeking His forgiveness; turning to Him with repentance - exalted is He in His perfection; and asking Him, All-High is He and Majestic, for acceptance and forgiveness, and that He make him reach other Ramadaans in the manner that pleases Him, exalted is He in His perfection."

Abuu Ayyuub Al-Ansaaree, may Allaah be pleased with him, reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Whoever fasted the month of Ramadhaan and then followed it with six (days of fasting) of Shawwaal, it is like he fasted for the entire year.”
