Words Deserved To Be Written In Gold: Focusing Solely On The Outward Islamic Appearance Whilst Neglecting The Inward Islamic Cores

Shaykh Muhammad Amaan Al-Jaamee, may Allaah have mercy upon him:

"It is upon our youth to occupy their spare time with the study of these books that treat the sicknesses of the heart and cause the person to strive to adhere to the way of the rightly guided predecessors with uprightness, and not merely with a formal appearance.

An outward appearance alone is like a costume, which is of no benefit. The short garment [above the ankles] and the full beard are things that Allaah has legislated and prescribed, but if the Islamic cores are absent, then outward appearance alone is of no benefit. Rather, the exterior appearance should be a sign from the signs of his true uprightness and devotion.

If his heart is upright, if he purifies it and if these Islamic cores dictate the outward appearance, then what an excellent devotion and what an excellent appearance. As for a person solely focusing on their exterior appearance and not treating the sicknesses of their heart, then this will not benefit, nor avail."

Shaykh al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: “A Muslim should not sell things that will help the Muslims to imitate them (the disbelievers) on their festivals, such as food, clothing and so on, because that is helping in doing evil.”

Iqtida’ As-Siraat Al-Mustaqeem, 2/520

He also said: ‘As for Muslims selling to [the disbelievers] on their festivals the things that help them to celebrate their festivals, such as food, clothing, herbs and so on, or giving those things to them, this is a kind of helping them to establish their haraam [prohibited] festivals.” 

It is narrated that Ibn Habeeb al-Maaliki said: “Do you not see that it is not permissible for the Muslims to sell to the Christians anything that has to do with their festivals, whether it be meat, condiments or clothing; they should not lend them mounts or help them in any part of their festivals, because that is like venerating their shirk (polytheism) and helping them in their disbelief. The authorities should forbid the Muslims to do that. This is the view of [Imaam] Maalik and others, and I do not know of anyone who disagreed with that."

💯 Miscellaneous Benefits from Yemen

BENEFIT 14: A common mistake that many fall into‼️

When some people enter the masjid and find the Imām in the sujūd position, they stand there waiting until the Imām gets up for the next rak'ah.

This is incorrect because:

1⃣. It goes against the general command in the Qur'ān & Sunnah encouraging us to rush towards good:

For example:
{فَٱسۡتَبِقُوا۟ ٱلۡخَیۡرَ ٰ⁠تِ}
“Hasten towards all that is good.”
[Sūrah Al-Baqarah: 148]

So hastening towards good in this case would be to join the prayer immediately, regardless of what position the Imām is in.

2⃣. It goes against the specific command of the Prophet ﷺ to join the prayer:

Abū Hurairah reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

((إِذَا جِئْتُمْ إِلَى الصَّلاَةِ وَنَحْنُ سُجُودٌ فَاسْجُدُوا وَلاَ تَعُدُّوهَا شَيْئًا)).‏

“When you come to the prayer and we are prostrating, you must prostrate, but do not count this as a rak’ah.”
[Sunan Abi Dawud, 893; authenticated by Sheikh Albāni in Al-Irwā' (496)]

So you must join the prayer, even if this rak'ah does not count.

3⃣. You are preventing yourself from making the most of these missed Sujūds:

▪️The closest a person is to Allah is when they are in sujood. This is why the Prophet ﷺ encouraged us to exert ourselves in making du'a. But this opportunity is missed by those who remain standing.

▪️The more sujūd a person performs, the greater the likelihood they will accompany the Prophet ﷺ in Jannah.

عن رَبِيعَةُ بْنُ كَعْبٍ الأَسْلَمِيُّ، قَالَ كُنْتُ أَبِيتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِوَضُوئِهِ وَحَاجَتِهِ فَقَالَ لِي ((سَلْ)).‏ فَقُلْتُ أَسْأَلُكَ مُرَافَقَتَكَ فِي الْجَنَّةِ.‏ قَالَ ‏((أَوَغَيْرَ ذَلِكَ؟)) قُلْتُ هُوَ ذَاكَ ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏((فَأَعِنِّي عَلَى نَفْسِكَ بِكَثْرَةِ السُّجُودِ)).

Rabi'a ibn Ka'b said: I was with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) one night. and I brought him water and what he required. He said to me: Ask (anything you like). I said: I ask your company in Paradise. He (the Prophet) said: Or anything else besides it. I said: That is all (what I require). He said: Then help me to achieve this for you by devoting yourself often to prostration.
[Sahih Muslim, 489]

Advice to sisters (forwarded message):

An old lady noticed that young and foolish girls were messing around with guys, giving them access to their bodies, in the hope that they would one day marry them.

The wise old lady said:

اللي يشرب حليب ببلاش عمره ما راح يفكر يشتري بقرة
'𝘐𝘧 𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘰 free 𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘬, 𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘣𝘶𝘺 𝘢 𝘤𝘰𝘸.'

If you fool around with guys, they will never marry you. They will just use and abuse you, and then move onto to the next one. When they eventually decide to settle down, they'll marry a modest, conservative woman who observes correct hijab.

Be smart and vigilant and don't let anyone use you.

The wife of 'Azeez was not able to win over Yusuf (peace be upon him) through her acts of seduction, but the girl of Madyan modestly won over Musa (peace be upon him) through her Hayaa'.

Real men are not deluded by the falseness of transient beauty but are attracted to the substance of good character.

Happy New Year?

Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allaah have mercy on him, said in Ahkaam Ahl al-Dhimmah:

"Congratulating the kuffaar on the rituals that belong only to them is haraam by consensus, as is congratulating them on their festivals and fasts by saying ‘A happy festival to you’ or ‘May you enjoy your festival,’ and so on. If the one who says this has been saved from kufr, it is still forbidden. It is like congratulating someone for prostrating to the cross, or even worse than that. It is as great a sin as congratulating someone for drinking wine, or murdering someone, or having illicit sexual relations, and so on. Many of those who have no respect for their religion fall into this error; they do not realize the offensiveness of their actions. Whoever congratulates a person for his disobedience or bid’ah or kufr exposes himself to the wrath and anger of Allaah."

"Congratulating the kuffaar on their religious festivals is haraam to the extent described by Ibn al-Qayyim because it implies that one accepts or approves of their rituals of kufr, even if one would not accept those things for oneself. But the Muslim should not aceept the rituals of kufr or congratulate anyone else for them, because Allaah does not accept any of that at all, as He says (interpretation of the meaning):

'If you disbelieve, then verily, Allaah is not in need of you, He likes not disbelief for His slaves. And if you are grateful (by being believers), He is pleased therewith for you. . .'

[Az-Zumar 39:7]

'. . . This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islaam as your religion . . .'

[Al-Maa’idah 5:3]

So congratulating them is forbidden, whether they are one’s colleagues at work or otherwise. If they greet us on the occasion of their festivals, we should not respond, because these are not our festivals, and because they are not festivals which are acceptable to Allaah. These festivals are innovations in their religions, and even those which may have been prescribed formerly have been abrogated by the religion of Islaam, with which Allaah sent Muhammad (salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) to the whole of mankind. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

'Whoever seeks a religion other than Islaam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers.'

[Aal ‘Imraan 3:85]

It is haraam for a Muslim to accept invitations on such occasions, because this is worse than congratulating them as it implies taking part in their celebrations.
Similarly, Muslims are forbidden to imitate the kuffaar by having parties on such occasions, or exchanging gifts, or giving out sweets or food, or taking time off work, etc., because the Prophet (salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said:

'Whoever imitates a people is one of them.'

Shaykh al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyah said in his book Iqtidaa’ al-siraat al-mustaqeem mukhaalifat ashaab al-jaheem:

'Imitating them in some of their festivals implies that one is pleased with their false beliefs and practices, and gives them the hope that they may have the opportunity to humiliate and mislead the weak.'

Whoever does anything of this sort is a sinner, whether he does it out of politeness or to be friendly, or because he is too shy to refuse, or for whatever other reason, because this is hypocrisy in Islaam, and because it makes the kuffaar feel proud of their religion. Allaah is the One Whom we ask to make the Muslims feel proud of their religion, to help them adhere steadfastly to it, and to make them victorious over their enemies, for He is the Strong and Omnipotent."
