Begin With The Quraan O Student Of Knowledge

Al-Khateeb Al-Baghdaadee, may Allaah have mercy upon him:

"It is encouraged for a student of knowledge to begin by memorising the Book of Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, since it is the greatest and most honourable branch of knowledge, and that which is most fitting to be given precedence (over anything else)."

Prepare Now Or Regret Later

It is reported that Imaam Ahmad, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said:

“The worldly life is a place for action, and the Hereafter is a place for recompense. So whoever does not prepare here, will regret there.”

Ibn Taymiyyah Told Ibnul-Qayyim This...

Al-Imaam Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah, may Allaah have mercy upon him:

“Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allaah have mercy upon him, once said to me: 'Difficulties and trials are like the heat and cold. If a slave knows that they're inevitable, he doesn't become angry due to their occurrence, nor does he become depressed by them, nor saddened.'"

It is reported that Ja’far Ibn Muhammad, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said:

“There is no provision more virtuous than taqwaa, nothing more better than silence, no enemy more harmful than ignorance, and no illness more damaging than lying.”

1) The Servant Knowing His Lord

Ash-Shaykh Muhammad Ibn 'Abdil-Wahhaab, may Allaah have mercy upon him:

"The three fundamental principles which are obligatory for every male and female Muslim to learn are that the servant knows his Lord, his religion, and his Prophet, Muhammad ﷺ."

Ash-Shaykh Ahmad Ibn Yahyaa An-Najmee, may Allaah have mercy upon him:

"This refers to those things that it is not permissible for anyone to be neglectful concerning, nor lax in learning them. They are that the servant knows his Lord, his religion, and his Prophet, Muhammad ﷺ.

As it relates to the servant knowing his Lord, then it is upon him to know Him through His signs and His creation. [His] signs are two types:

1. Legislated, Quraanic signs: These are the Verses of the Quraan.

The Verses of the Noble Quraan are that by which the servant knows his Lord, and that by which he knows what He legislated and commanded, so that he can act by it. He likewise knows his Lord by way of what Allaah revealed to his Prophet ﷺ from the sunnah, which explains and clarifies the Verses in the Quraan.

Therefore, the servant knows what Allaah loves and is pleased with by way of this Noble Quraan, revelation (i.e. the sunnah) and light that Allaah sent His Messenger ﷺ with and revealed to him.

Indeed, the servants do not recognise, nor know what Allaah loves and is pleased with, nor do they recognise and know that which He dislikes and rejects except by His (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aalaa) sending of the Messengers and His revelation of the books.

2. Universal, decreed signs: These are the signs that Allaah alluded to in His (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aalaa) statement:

سَنُرِيهِمْ ءَايَٰتِنَا فِى ٱلْءَافَاقِ وَفِىٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ حَتَّىٰ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُمْ أَنَّهُ ٱلْحَقُّۗ أَوَلَمْ يَكْفِ بِرَبِّكَ أَنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ شَهِيدٌ

'We will show them Our Signs in the universe, and in their own selves, until it becomes manifest to them that this (the Quraan) is the truth. Is it not sufficient in regard to your Lord that He is a Witness over all things?'

[Al-Quraan 41:53]

After the servant acquires knowledge and knows who is his Lord (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aalaa), then it makes it incumbent upon the servant to single out his Lord, Who deserves to be worshipped, the True King, by fulfilling the obligation of worshipping (1) Him alone (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aalaa). He does not worship anyone else besides Him, no matter who it is.

This is because He is the One Who created him, nurtured him, and nurtured all of the creation with His blessings. For this reason, He is the One Who deserves to be worshipped, and there is nothing worthy of worship in truth besides Him. So 'All the praises and thanks be to Allaah, the Lord of the ‘aalameen (mankind, jinn and all that exists).' [Al-Quraan 1:2]

(1) 'Surely the religion (i.e. the worship and the obedience) is for Allaah only...'

[Al-Quraan 39:3]

Alhamdulillaah people are benefitting (inshaallaah) by simply learning 1 Arabic word and its plural form daily, 5 days a week. Why don't you join too? There is no official commitment required. You do what you're able to do at your own pace.

It may seem like a very little amount but it all adds up. It's nearly 500 words a year (including the plural form).

Alhamdulillaah all stalls have been filled except one on the mens side. We'd like to remind everyone to stick to selling the items which you've agreed upon with the organiser to avoid possible fitnah with other sellers. Everything has been arranged so nobody is selling the same stuff.
Tomorrow inshaallaah!
