Forgotten Sunnah | Not facing the door when seeking permission to enter.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا أَتَى بَابَ قَوْمٍ لَمْ يَسْتَقْبِلِ الْبَابَ مِنْ تِلْقَاءِ وَجْهِهِ وَلَكِنْ مِنْ رُكْنِهِ الأَيْمَنِ أَوِ الأَيْسَرِ وَيَقُولُ ‏ “‏ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمُ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ ‏”‏ ‏.‏ وَذَلِكَ أَنَّ الدُّورَ لَمْ يَكُنْ عَلَيْهَا يَوْمَئِذٍ سُتُورٌ

Abdullah ibn Busr: When the Messenger of Allaah came to some people’s door, he didn’t face it squarely, but faced the right or left corner, and said: Aslaam Alaykum! Asalaam Alaykum!

That was because there were no curtains on the doors of the house at that time.

Shaikh Abdul-Muhsin al-‘Abbad: This is from the beautiful manners and honorable characteristics!
That is: a person not facing the door (when desiring to enter another’s house) because facing the door will make a person see inside the house.

However, if he’s facing to the right or left, then he’ll be far from his eye seeing what the owner of the house doesn’t want that he sees or be shown.

Clarification notice:

Recently, after a copy of the newly published pamphlet titled "WHY ISLĀM? which contained a distant aerial view of a congregation in rukū' position in front of the Ka'bah was circulated in WhatsApp groups, some debate occurred as to whether the heads were clearly (visible) or not. It was also debated whether it was considered to be a suwra (picture/image) from a legislative point of view or not. As a result, some of the noble Mashāykh were contacted the likes of Abdul-Hamīd al-Hajūrī, Muhammad Bā-Jamāl, Fath al-Qadasī, Abdullāh al-Iryānī, and others may Allāh reward them with good. After asking about the image, the general advice of the Mashāykh was that the matter was doubtful and/to prevent any means (of fitnah) by leaving it off. Hence, as per the advice of the Mashaykh who were asked, and fearing what this may lead to from unwarranted actions, as well as continuing unnecessary differing between brothers/sisters. The pamphlets in question will be replaced with new ones by the will of Allāh.

Final note: The image of the people in front of the Ka'bah was not noticed until after the printing process was underway. However, if this was noticed before hand, then it would have been amended before time.
