When Allaah Becomes Displeased With The Wife Regarding Her Husband

Abuu Hurayrah, may Allaah be pleased with him, reported that the Messenger of Allaah, salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, said:

"‏إِذَا دَعَا الرَّجُلُ امْرَأَتَهُ إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَلَمْ تَأْتِهِ فَبَاتَ غَضْبَانَ عَلَيْهَا لَعَنَتْهَا الْمَلاَئِكَةُ حَتَّى تُصْبِحَ."‏

"When a man calls his wife to his bed and she does not come, and he (the husband) spends the night being angry with her, the angels curse her until morning."

[Saheeh Al-Bukhaaree, No. 3237, and Saheeh Muslim, No. 1436. Wording of Saheeh Muslim].

Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Saalih Al-'Uthaymeen, may Allaah have mercy upon him:

"Regarding the angels cursing the wife mentioned in the Hadeeth, it means they make du'aa (supplication) against her to be cursed! And the word 'curse' means, that the cursed person be far removed from the Mercy of Allaah. So, if the wife refused to have sexual intercourse with her husband, which Allaah has allowed and made this act lawful for the husband, if she does not allow him, then the angels curse her and we seek Allaah's refuge! If the wife refuses him til the morning, Allaah's angels curse her time-after-time!

The Prophet, salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, said (in another narration):

"‏وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ مَا مِنْ رَجُلٍ يَدْعُو امْرَأَتَهُ إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَتَأْبَى عَلَيْهِ إِلاَّ كَانَ الَّذِي فِي السَّمَاءِ سَاخِطًا عَلَيْهَا حَتَّى يَرْضَى عَنْهَا."‏

"By Him in Whose Hand is my life! When a man calls his wife to his bed and she does not respond, the One Who is above the heaven becomes displeased with her until he (her husband) becomes pleased with her."

This narration is more severe than the previous narrations because in it Allaah Himself is displeased with her! And certainly if Allaah is displeased with someone, then this is far worse than the mere curse of any man...

As for the Prophet's (salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) words: 'the angels curse her until morning' it indicates Allaah being displeased with the wife solely based on her husband being upset and angry with her! It is possible that when the Prophet, salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, mentioned 'until morning' it could be counted as the least time that the husband remains angry and upset with her. And it is also possible that the husband remains angry with her but not til the morning, just before sunset and it is just as likely that at times the husband will remain angry with his wife more than a day, maybe two. Whatsoever the case may be, as long as the husband remains angry with his wife, even if that is for a very long time period, Allaah, the Exalted and High, will remain displeased with her."

Important Note: A man should give his wife her rights, and she should give him his rights. If the man is not giving the woman her rights but he is demanding his right from her, she should reach out to a reliable person of knowledge and authority who can assist her and try to rectify their affairs, and Allaah knows best.

The Man Is The Guardian Over The Woman

Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Saalih Al-'Uthaymeen, may Allaah have mercy upon him:

"Regarding Allaah's words: 'Men are the protectors and maintainers of women' (Al-Quraan 4:34), the meaning is, that the man is the guardian over the woman, the disposer of her affairs, the one who is responsible for guiding her, and the one whom she should obey. On the other hand, if he commands her to disobey Allaah in any act of disobedience, she is not allowed to obey him in that matter as there is no obedience to the creation when it entails disobedience to the Creator, no matter who it is."

BENEFIT 38: THE TOTAL NUMBER OF PROPHETS & MESSENGERS

In total, there were 114,000 Prophets; 315 of whom were Messengers.

How do we know that❓

Proof 1:

Abū Umāmah radhiyallāhu 'anhu asked the Prophet ﷺ, how many Prophets are there? He ﷺ said:

((مائة ألف وأربعة عشر ألف))

“One hundred and fourteen thousand.”

[this ḥadīth is 'Ḥasan lighayrihi'; see 'Aṣ-Ṣaḥīḥah' (6/363)]


Proof 2:

Narrated Abū Umāmah radhiyallāhu 'anhu:

((كان آدم نبيا مكلما، كان بينه وبين نوح عشرة قرون، وكانت الرسل ثلاثمائة وخمسة عشر))

“Ādam was a Prophet who was spoken to (directly), the time gap between him and Nūḥ was 10 centuries, and the Messengers numbered three hundred and fifteen.”

Sheikh Kamāl Al-'Adenī raḥimahullāh said: its chain of narration is 'Ṣaḥīḥ'.
