Him, And believes in Al-Husna. We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness).

[Al-Qur'aan 92:5-7]

This was also mentioned by Abuu 'Abdur-Rahmaan As-Sulamee, Dhihaak and was narrated by ‘Ateeyah on the authority of Ibn ‘Abbaas.

It is the statement of truth which Allaah, 'Azza wa Jal, mentioned when He, the Most High, said:

"...except those who bear witness to the truth (i.e. believed in the Oneness of Allaah, and obeyed His Orders), and they know (the facts about the Oneness of Allaah)."

[Al-Qur'aan 43:86] as stated by Al-Baghawi.

It is the statement of taqwaa (piety) as Allaah, 'Azza wa Jal, mentioned when He said:

"...and made them stick to the word of piety (i.e. none has the right to be worshipped but Allaah) and they were well entitled to it and worthy of it."

[Al-Qur'aan 48:26]

This was mentioned by Ibn Jareer and 'Abdullaah Ibn Ahmad, by Tirmithee with chains up to Ubayy Ibn Ka’ab, may Allaah be pleased with him, on the authority of the Prophet, SalAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam.

It is the statement which is firmly-fixed as Allaah, 'Azza wa Jal, mentions when He says:

"Allaah will keep firm those who believe with the word that stands firm in this world (i.e. they will keep on worshipping Allaah Alone and none else) and in the Hereafter."

[Al-Qur'aan 14:27]

[Narrated by Bukhaaree and Muslim on the authority of Al-Bara Ibn ‘Aazib, may Allaah be pleased with him, from the Prophet, SalAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam.

It is the good statement which was previously made a solid example as Allaah, the Most High, says:

"Do you not see how Allaah sets forth a parable? A goodly word as a goodly tree, whose root is firmly fixed and its branches (reach) to the sky (i.e. very high)."

[Al-Qur'aan 14:24]

This is what was mentioned by ‘Alee Ibn Talhah on the authority of Ibn ‘Abbaas.

The foundation of this statement ‘Laa ilaaha ilAllaah’ is firmly fixed in a believer’s heart, its branches are righteous actions which ascend to the sky – to Allaah, 'Azza wa Jal.

This is what was mentioned by Dhihaak, Sa’eed Ibn Jubayr, Ikrima’, Mujaahid and others.

It is the goodness which Allaah, 'Azza wa Jal, mentions when He says:

"Whoever brings a good deed shall have ten times the like thereof."

[Al-Qur'aan 6:160]

Allaah, the Most High, said:

"Whoever brings a good deed (i.e. Belief in the Oneness of Allaah along with every deed of righteousness), will have better than its worth and they will be safe from the terror on that Day."

[Al-Qur'aan 27:89]

This was mentioned by Zayn Al-Abideen and Ibraaheem An-Nakha’aee and it is ascribed to the Messenger on the authority of Abee Tharr, that he, SalAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, said: ‘It is the best of righteous deeds.’

On the authority of Abuu Tharr, may Allaah be pleased with him, who said: ‘I said: O Messenger of Allaah advise me.’ The Messenger, SalAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, said: ‘If you do a bad deed then follow it up with a good one and it wipes it out.’ Abuu Tharr continued: I said: ‘O Messenger of Allaah is ‘Laa ilaaha ilAllaah’ from the good deeds?’ He answered: ‘It is the best of righteous deeds.’

[Narrated by Ahmad and Al-Albaanee graded it 'Hasan' in ‘Saheehah’, 1373].

This statement ‘Laa ilaaha ilAllaah’ wipes out sins and mistakes.

It is the highest description which Allaah, 'Azza wa Jal, mentions when He says:

"His is the highest description (i.e. none has the right to be worshipped but He and there is nothing comparable unto Him) in the heavens and in the earth.

[Al-Qur'aan 30:27]

As was mentioned by Qataadah and Muhammad Ibn Jareer, also by Malik on the authority of Muhammad Ibnul-Munkadir.

It is the means for success as is mentioned in Saheeh Muslim that when the Prophet – SalAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, heard the Mu’athin (the caller to the prayer) saying:

‘Ashhadu alla ilaaha ilAllaah’ (I testify that there is none worthy of worship in truth except Allaah) he said: ‘You have exited the Fire.’ [Saheeh Muslim].

On the authority of 'Ubaadah Ibn Saamitt, may Allaah be pleased with him, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah, SalAllaahu 'alayh
i wa sallam, saying: ‘Whoever testifies that there is none worthy of worship in truth except Allaah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah then Allaah prohibits the Fire for him.’ [Saheeh Muslim].

In the Hadeeth of intercession: "Take out from the Fire whoever said ‘Laa ilaaha ilAllaah’ and had in his heart the like of an atom’s worth of eemaan.’

[Narrated by Ahmad and Ibn Khuzaymah and Al-Albaanee graded it as 'saheeh' in ‘Kitaabus-Sunnah’, 852].

‘Laa ilaaha ilAllaah’ is the means of entering into Paradise:

On the authority of 'Ubaadah Ibn Saamitt, may Allaah be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allaah, SalAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, said: ‘Whoever says ‘Ashhadu alla ilaaha ilAllaah wahdahu laa shareeka lahu wa anna Muhammadan Abduhu wa Rasuuluhu (I testify that there is none worthy of worship in truth except Allaah Alone and He has no partners and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger) and that 'Eesaa (Jesus) is the slave of Allaah and the son of Allaah’s female slave, he was created by a word which was sent to Maryam and he is a command from Him, that Paradise is true and the Fire is true’, then Allaah will enter him into Paradise from whichever of the eight doors of Paradise he chooses.’

[Saheeh Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim]

In another narration: ‘Allaah enters him into Paradise with what he has of actions.’

[Saheeh Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim]

It is the best thing with which Allaah, 'Azza wa Jal, is remembered and the heaviest thing on the slave of Allaah’s scale on the Day of Judgement as mentioned in ‘Musnad’ on the authority of 'Abdullaah Ibn 'Amr, may Allaah be pleased with him, from the Prophet, SalAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam:

‘When death was approaching the Prophet of Allaah, Nuuh, he said to his son: I will narrate to you my bequest; I command you with two things and prohibit you from two things. I command you with ‘Laa ilaaha ilAllaah’ (There is none worthy of worship in truth except Allaah), if the seven heavens and the seven earths were placed upon one scale and ‘Laa ilaaha ilAllaah’ was placed on the other, then ‘Laa ilaaha ilAllaah’ would be heavier.

If the seven heavens and the seven earths were a closed circle then ‘Laa ilaaha ilAllaah’ would be able to break it.

The second thing I command you with is SubhaanAllaahi wa bihamdihi (Far is Allaah from imperfection and praise is for Him), since it is a supplication for everything and by it, the creation is given its provision.

I prohibit you from shirk and pride. (The narrator said: I asked or someone asked): O Messenger of Allaah, as for shirk then we know about it, but what is pride? Is it that one of us has sandals with two good straps?

The Messenger answered: No.

He asked again: Is it that one of us has companions and they sit with him?

The Messenger again answered: No.

Someone asked: O Messenger of Allaah, what is pride?

He said: Ridiculing the truth and belittling and reviling the people.’

[Silsilatu-Saheehah, 134]

On the authority of 'Abdullaah Ibn Amr Ibnul-Aas, may Allaah be pleased with him, who said I heard the Messenger of Allaah, SalAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam، saying:

"Indeed Allaah will single out a man from my nation in front of all the people on the Day of Judgement. Ninety-nine scrolls will be unrolled for him; every scroll will stretch as far as the eye can see.

Then Allaah will say: 'Do you deny anything of this? Did the Angels recording your deeds oppress you?'

So the man will say: 'No, my Lord.'

Allaah will say: 'Do you have an excuse?'

The man will say: 'No, my Lord.'

Allaah will say: 'Yes, indeed, We have a good deed for you and indeed, there will be no oppression upon you today.’

Then a card will be brought forth and in it will be: ‘I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger.’

Then Allaah will say: 'Bring your bad deeds.'

The man will say: 'What is this card compared with these scrolls?'

Allaah will say: 'Indeed, you will not be oppressed.'

The Prophet, SalAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, continued:

The scrolls will be p
ut on one side of the scales and the card will be put on the other side, the scrolls will be light and the card will be heavy, there can be nothing more heavy than the name of Allaah.’"

[At-Tirmithee, An-Nasaa’ee, and in Musnad. Silsilatu-Saheehah, 135]

Rights Of The Relatives

Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Saalih Al-'Uthaymeen

May Allaah Have Mercy Upon Him

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

"Relatives are those who are related to you through blood and close ties; such as the brother, the uncle, the auntie, or their children. Everyone who has a tie of relation with you has certain rights upon you in accordance with how closely they are related to you. About this, Allaah – the Most High – said (interpretation of the meaning):

'And give to the relative his right.' [Al-Qur'aan 17:26].

Allaah – the Most High – also said (interpretation of the meaning):

'And worship Allaah alone, and do not set-up any partner to Him in worship, and be kind and good to the parents, and to the relatives.' [Al-Qur'aan 4:36].

So it is obligatory upon everyone to treat their relatives in the best possible manner, and to support them in accordance with their needs, and what they seek of help and support. And this is what is necessitated by the Sharee’ah (prescribed Islamic law), the ‘aql (sound reasoning) and the fitrah (natural state).

And there are many textual evidences encouraging and urging silatur-rahm (joining the ties of relations); such as what Abuu Hurayrah, may Allaah be pleased with him, related from the Prophet, SalAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, that he said (translated meaning):

'Indeed Allaah created the creation, until when He finished doing so, the rahm (womb/ties of relation) stood-up and said: Is this the place of one who seeks refuge in You from those who severe and cut ties with me. So Allaah said: Yes, Indeed. Would it please you that I keep ties with those who keep ties with You, and cut-off ties with those who cut-off ties with you? So the rahm said: Yes, indeed! So Allaah said: Then this is for you.'

Then Allaah’s Messenger, SalAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: Recite if you wish: ‘Would you then, if you were given the authority, cause corruption in the land, and cut-off ties of relations. They are those upon whom is the curse of Allaah, so that He makes them deaf and blinds them.'

[Al-Qur'aan 47:22-23].

[Saheeh Al-Bukhaaree, No. 1987, and Saheeh Muslim, No. 3456].

The Prophet, SalAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, also said (translated meaning): 'Whosoever believes in Allaah and the Last Day, let him keep the ties of relations.' [Saheeh Al-Bukhaaree, No. 6138].

Unfortunately, many people do not fulfill this haqq (right) and transgress the bounds concerning this. Some of them do not seek to join ties with relatives or show kindness to them; neither through wealth, nor through good behaviour, nor through the giving of occasional gifts and presents nor through rendering help to them in their times of need.

Indeed, many days or months may pass without even seeing or visiting them, and sometimes, rather than seeking to join ties of relations, some people even intend to severe such ties, by seeking to harm their relatives – either through words, or action, or both. Such people may even keep close ties with those who are not relation, yet cut-off ties with relatives!

Some people only keep ties of relations with those who maintain ties with them, but cut-off from those who cut-off from them. So such people are not truly the waasils (those who keeps ties of relations), but rather they are those who do so based upon tit for tat.

So they will only keep ties with those who keep ties with them, whether relatives, or other than them. However, the true waasil (one who keeps ties of relations) is the one who keeps ties of relation for the sake of Allaah – regardless of whether his relations keep ties with him or not.

‘Abdullaah Ibn ‘Amr, may Allaah be pleased with him, related that the Prophet, SalAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said (translated meaning): 'The waasil (one who keeps the ties of relations) is not the one who merely does so out of reciprocation. Rather, the waasil is the one who, even when the relatives cut-off from him, yet he still maintains ties with them.'

So a man asked: 'O Messenger of Allaah. I have relatives with whom I maintain ties of relations, yet they cut-off from me. I
treat them kindly, yet they treat me in an evil manner. And I am forbearing and patient with them, yet they behave rudely and ignorantly towards me.'

The Prophet, SalAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: 'If the situation is as you say, then it is as if you are filling their mouths with sand. And Allaah will continue to aid and support you as long as you continue doing what you are doing.' [Saheeh Al-Bukhaaree, No. 5911].

If there were no other rewards for keeping ties of relations, except that Allaah keeps ties with the waasil in this world and the Hereafter, and that He extends His Mercy due to it, and makes affairs easier through it, and removes distress and anxieties by it, then that would be more than sufficient.

However, along with this, silatur-rahim (joining the ties of relations) brings with it closeness to one’s family and relatives, as well as love and compassion developing between one another, and there being mutual help, in times of ease and hardship between one another, and other such joys and delights – as is experienced and well-known. And when ties of relations are not maintained, then each one of the aforementioned benefits turn to their opposites, and great harm comes to the society."

The Levels of People With Regard To Their Prayer

Which Category Do You Fall Under?

Imaam Ibnul-Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah

May Allaah Have Mercy Upon Him

"And mankind, with regard to their performance of prayer are of five levels:

1) The level of the one who is negligent and wrongs his soul. He is the one who falls short in performing ablution properly, performing the prayer upon its time and within its specified limits, and in fulfilling its essential pillars.

2) The one who guards his prayers upon their proper times and within their specified limits, fulfils their essential pillars and performs his ablution with care. However, his striving (in achieving the above) is wasted due to whisperings in his prayer so he is taken away by thoughts and ideas.

3) The one who guards his prayers within their specified limits, fulfils their essential pillars and strives with himself to repel the whisperings, thoughts and ideas. He is busy struggling against his enemy (shaytaan) so that he does not steal from the prayer. On account of this he is engaged in (both) prayer and jihaad.

4) The one who stands for the prayer, completes and perfects its due rights, its essential pillars, performs it within its specified limits and his heart becomes engrossed in safeguarding its rights and specified limits, so that nothing is wasted from it. His whole concern is directed towards its establishment, its completion and its perfection, as it should be. His heart is immersed in the prayer and in enslavement to his Lord, the Exalted.

5) The one who stands for the prayer like the one mentioned above (number 4). However, on top of this, he has taken and placed his heart in front of his Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, looking towards Him with his heart with anticipation, (his heart) filled with His Love and His Might, as if he sees and witnesses Allaah. The whisperings, thoughts and ideas have vanished and the coverings which are between him and his Lord are raised. What is between this person and others with respect to the prayer, is superior and greater than what is between the heavens and the earth. This person is busy with his Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, delighted with Him.

The first type will be punished, the second type will be held to account, the third will have his sins and shortcomings expiated, the fourth will be rewarded and the fifth will be close to his Lord, because he will receive the portion of the one who makes his prayer the delight and pleasure of his eye.

Whoever makes the prayer the delight and pleasure of his eye, will have the nearness to his Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, made the delight and pleasure of his eye in the Hereafter. He will also be made a pleasure of the eye in this world since whoever makes Allaah the pleasure of his eye in this world, every other eye will become delighted and pleased with him."

"Be in this world like a bee, when it eats, it eats what is pure (i.e. nectar); when it feeds, it feeds what is pure (i.e. honey). And when it lands on something, it does not break it nor cause ruin."

If they hear about or see with their own eyes your good qualities, even if these exceed your flaws by far, it doesn't please them, they don't pay attention to it nor do they mention it to other people. But if they see the least mistake in talk or actions, they react immediately and wholeheartedly."

Signs Of A Diseased Heart

- One does not feel any hurt or pain when he commits evil deeds and sins.

- One finds both pleasure in committing sins and tranquility after doing them.

- One looks after less important matters and neglects more important and critical ones.

- One dislikes the truth and has difficulty accepting or submitting to it.

- One feels discomfort being in the company of the righteous and feels comfort in the company of the sinful.

- One is susceptible to misconceptions and doubts, and is attracted to debates and arguments about them, rather than to reading Qur’aan and other such beneficial acts.

- One is not affected by any kind of admonition.

The Description Of Paradise And The Delights It Contains

Imaam Ibnul-Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah

May Allaah Have Mercy Upon Him

"And if you ask about its ground and its soil, then it is of musk and saffron.

And if you ask about its roof, then it is the Throne of the Most Merciful.

And if you ask about its rocks, then they are pearls and jewels.

And if you ask about its buildings, then they are made of bricks of gold and silver.

And if you ask about its trees, then it does not contain a single tree except that its trunk is made of gold and silver.

And if you ask about its fruits, then they are softer than butter and sweeter than honey.

And if you ask about its leaves, then they are softer than the softest cloth.

And if you ask about its rivers, then there are rivers of milk who's taste does not change, and rivers of wine that is delicious to those who drink it, and rivers of honey that is pure, and rivers of water that is fresh.

And if you ask about their food, then it is fruits from whatever they will choose, and the meat of whatever birds they desire.

And if you ask about their drink, then it is Tasneem, ginger, and Kaafoor.

And if you ask about their drinking cups, then they are crystal-clear and made of gold and silver.

And if you ask about its shade, then a fast rider would ride in the shade of one of its trees for a hundred years and not escape it.

And if you ask about its vastness, then the lowest of its people would have within his kingdom and walls and palaces and gardens the distance that would be travelled in a thousand years.

And if you ask about its tents and encampments, then one tent is like a concealed pearl that is sixty miles long.

And if you ask about its towers, then they are rooms above rooms in buildings that have rivers running underneath them.

And if you ask about how far it reaches into the sky, then look at the shining star that is visible, as well as those that are far in the heavens that the eyesight cannot possibly reach.

And if you ask about the clothing of its inhabitants, then they are of silk and gold.

And if you ask about its beds, then its blankets are of the finest silk laid out in the highest of its levels.

And if you ask about the faces of its inhabitants and their beauty, then they are like the image of the Moon.

And if you ask about their age, then they are young ones of 33 years in the image of Aadam, the father of humanity.

And if you ask about what they will be hearing, then it is the singing of their wives from among the Hoor al-'Ayn, and better than that are the voices of the Angels and the Prophets, and better than that is the Speech of the Lord of the Worlds.

And if you ask about their servants, then they are young boys of everlasting youth who resemble scattered pearls.

And if you ask about their brides and wives, then they are young and full-breasted and have had the liquid of youth flow through their limbs; the Sun runs along the beauty of her face if she shows it, light shines from between her teeth if she smiles; if you meet her love, then say whatever you want regarding the joining of two lights; he sees his face in the roundness of her cheek as if he is looking into a polished mirror, and he sees the brightness from behind her muscles and bones; if she were to be unleashed upon the World, she would fill what is between the Heavens and the Earth with a beautiful wind, and the mouths of the creation would glorifiy, praise, and exclaim greatness, and everything between the East and the West would be adorned for her, and every eye would be shut from everthing but her, and the light of the Sun would be outshone just as the light of the Sun outshines the light of the stars, and everyone on the face of the Earth would believe in the Ever-Living, the One who Sustains and Protects all the exists.

And the covering on her head is better than the World and all that is in it, and she does not increase with age except in beauty; free from an umbilical cord, childbirth and menses, and pure of mucous, saliva, urine and other filthy things;
her youth never fades, her clothing is never worn out, no garment can be created that matches her beauty, and no one who is with her can ever become bored; her attention is restricted to her husband, so she desires none but him, just as his attention is restricted to her so she is the sole object of his desire, and he is with her in utmost safety and security, as none has touched her before of either humans or Jinn.

And if you ask about the Day of Increase (in reward) and the visit of the all-Mighty, all-Wise, and the sight of His Face - free from any resemblance or likeness to anything - as you see the Sun in the middle of the day and the full Moon on a cloudless night, then listen on the day that the caller will call: 'O People of Paradise! Your Lord - Blessed and Exalted - requests you to visit Him, so come to visit Him!' So they will say: 'We hear and obey!'

Until, when they finally reach the wide valley where they will all meet - and none of them will turn down the request of the caller - the Lord - Blessed and Exalted - will order His Chair to be brought there. Then, pulpits of light will emerge, as well as pulpits of pearls, gemstone, gold, and silver. The lowest of them in rank will sit on sheets of musk, and will not see what those who are on the chairs above them are given. When they are comfortable where they are sitting and are secure in their places, and the caller calls: 'O People of Paradise! You have an appointment with Allaah in which He wishes to reward you!' So they will say: 'And what is that reward? Has He not already made our faces bright, made our scales heavy, entered us into Paradise, and pushed us away from the Fire?'

And when they are like that, all of a sudden a light shines that encompasses all of Paradise. So, they raise their heads, and, behold: the Compeller - Exalted is He, and Holy are His Names - has come to them from above them and majestified them and said: 'O People of Paradise! Peace be upon you!' So, this greeting will not be responded to with anything better than: 'O Allaah! You are Peace, and from You is Peace! Blessed are You, O possessor of Majesty and Honor!' So the Lord - Blessed and Exalted - will laugh to them and say: 'O People of Paradise! Where are those who used to obey Me without having ever seen Me? This is the Day of Increase!'

So, they will all give the same response: 'We are pleased, so be pleased with us!' So, He will say: 'O People of Paradise! If I were not pleased with you, I would not have made you inhabitants of My Paradise! So, ask of Me!' So, they will all give the same response: 'Show us your Face so that we may look at it!' So, the Lord - Mighty and Majestic - will remove his covering and will majestify them and will cover them with His Light, which, if Allaah - the Exalted - had not Willed not to burn them, would have burned them.

And there will not remain a single person in this gathering except that his Lord - the Exalted - will speak to him and say: 'Do you remember the day that you did this and that?' and He will remind him of some of his bad deeds in the Worldy life, so he will say: 'O Lord! Will you not forgive me?' So, He will say: 'Of course! You have not reached this position of yours (in Paradise) except by my forgiveness.'

So, how sweet is this speech to the ears, and how cooled are the righteous eyes by the glance at His Noble Face in the Afterlife...

"Some faces that Day will be shining and radiant, looking at their Lord..." (Al-Qur'aan: 75:22-23)
