ما حكم صدقة الفطر؟

قال ابن باز - رحمه الله -:

زكاة الفطر فرض على كل مسلم صغير أو كبير ذكر أو أنثى حر أو عبد.

(الفتاوى - 14/ 197)

What Is The Ruling On Sadaqatul-Fitr?

Imaam Ibn Baaz, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said:

"Zakaatul-Fitr is obligatory upon every Muslim, (whether they be) young, old, male, female, one who is free or one who is enslaved."

[Al-Fataawaa, 14/197].

As we are about to reach the Last 10 days of Ramadan I would to remind myself and you of the following,

Narrated by Aisha (رضي الله عنها)

When the last ten days of Ramadan begin, the Prophet (ﷺ) used to tighten his waist belt (exert himself), used to pray all the night, and used to keep his family awake for the prayers.

[Saheeh al-Bukhari 2024 (32/11)]

This was in order to seek and benefit from the night of Qadr (Decree) which better then worshiping Allah for a thousand months which is equivalent to 83 years and 4 months.

Allah ﷻ says

إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ

Verily! We have sent it (this Quran) down in the night of Al-Qadr (Decree)

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ

And what will make you know what the night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is?

لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍ

The night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is better than a thousand months.

تَنَزَّلُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ فِيهَا بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهِم مِّن كُلِّ أَمْرٍ

Therein descend the angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] by Allah's Permission with all Decrees,

سَلَامٌ هِيَ حَتَّىٰ مَطْلَعِ الْفَجْرِ

Peace! (All that night, there is Peace and Goodness from Allah to His believing slaves) until the appearance of dawn.

[Surah al-Qadr 97:1-5]

Narrated by Aisha (رضي الله عنها),

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to practice I`tikaf (seclusion in Masjid) in the last ten nights of Ramadan and used to say, “Look for the Night of Qadr in the last ten nights of the month of Ramadan.”

[Saheeh al-Bukhari 2020 (32/7)]

He ﷺ said in another narration,

“Search for the Night of Qadr (Decree) in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan.”

[Saheeh al-Bukhari 2017 (32/4). Narrated by Aisha (رضي الله عنها)]

Aisha (رضي الله عنها) said:
“I asked the Prophet (ﷺ), ‘O Messenger of Allah, if I am to witness the night of Qadr, what should I say during it?’ He (ﷺ) said: ‘Say: O Allah, You are Oft-Pardoning and You love to pardon, so pardon me.’”

[Jami at-Tirmidhi 3513 (48/144)]

اللَّهُمَّ اِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
[Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni]

Remember!!!

• The supplication of Jibriel (عليه السلام) against the one reaches this month and does not benefit from it

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ascended the pulpit and he said, “Ameen, Ameen, Ameen.” It was said, “O Messenger of Allah, you ascended the pulpit and said Ameen, Ameen, Ameen.” The Prophet (ﷺ) said,

“Verily, Jibriel (عليه السلام) came to me and he said: Whoever reaches the month of Ramadan and he is not forgiven, may he enter the Hellfire and be distant from Allah mercy, so say Ameen. I said Ameen...”

[Ibn Hibbaan, 3/188; classed as saheeh by al-Shaykh al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1679. Narrated by Abu Hurayrah]

Note: This Dua (supplication) is most definitely accepted by Allah for it was made by Gabriel, who is the best of Angels and the one to say Ameen was Muhammad ﷺ, who is the best of creation.

• Many wished to have reached this month but were unable

Talha Bin Ubaidullah (رضي الله عنه) reported about two men who came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and accepted Islam at the same time.

One of them would part take in Jihad more than the other. He was martyred in one of the battles he fought. The other man lived for another year, and then he too passed away.

Talha said, “I saw in my dream that I was at the door of Paradise when behold, I was with both of them (the two men). Someone came out of Paradise and allowed the man who passed away later to enter first.

Then he came out again and allowed the martyred one to enter. Then he returned and said to me, ‘Go back, for your time has not come yet.’”

Talha woke up and began to inform others about this and they were all surprised. When they informed the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about it, he said, “What are you surprised about?” They said, “O Messenger of Allah! Out of them both, this one strove harder (in Jihad) then he was martyred, but the other one was entered into Paradise before him.”

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Did he not remain behind him for another year?” They said, “Yes
(he did).” He said, “Did he not reach Ramadan, fast and pray with such and such number of prostrations in the year?” They said, “Yes.” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “So the difference between them is greater than what is between the heavens and the earth.”

[Ibn Majah (2/345-346) authenticated by Al-Albani]

• Repent from all your previous sins

The Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) said:

“The one who repents from sin is like one who did not sin.”

[Classed as Hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh Ibn Maajah (4250) ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood (رضي الله عنه)]

• This may be your last Ramadan so make the most of it by praying at night, reading lots of Quran and giving charity

Allah ﷻ says

By no means shall you attain Al-Birr (piety, righteousness, etc., it means here Allah's Reward, i.e. Paradise), unless you spend (in Allah's Cause) of that which you love; and whatever of good you spend, Allah knows it well.

[Surah Al-Imraan 3:92]

Don't forget forward it and join in with the reward

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, Whoever invites to guidance, he will have a reward similar to the reward of those who follow him, without reducing anything from their rewards.

[Recorded by Muslim in the Book of Knowledge, Chapter: Whoever Institutes a Good or Evil Practice]
Sign of deviation – To approve what you use to disapprove and to disapprove what you use to approve

So what is the sign of deviation? (Shaykh was asking the students in class)

Hudaifah (رضي الله عنه‌‎) said, (the sign of deviation is): “To approve what you use to disapprove and to disapprove what you use to approve”.

This a very clear sign, so if you want to know the deviation of a person apply this principle on him, what he used to say earlier and what he is saying now? immediately you will know. If you see these people of banateel (who permit wearing the pants) who say fulaan has permitted this, you know that he has deviated. You (addressing some maftoon who permit wearing pants) did not used to permit this and you used to refute the Ikhwan-ul-Muslimeen by saying to them: “Why you refute us by saying so and so permitted this? Why are you not saying Allah said such and His Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said such?” Now, you search for the excuses. This is the methodology of Ikhwan-ul-Muslimeen. And Allah will destroy them like how He destroyed the Ikhwan-ul-Muslimeen.

And we are free from these kind of people who are eating away salafiyyah. Wearing pants used to be haram and now, when we entered it, became halal ! Say that, “We want the saudi riyaals” and don’t cheat these young people. That is what tempted them, so they say fulaan permitted this and you are not worried about the fatwa. The mufti (for these people) is saudi riyaals, that is a reliable mufti. We ask Allah to save us from these kind of people and their trials.

Oh Salafiyyun .. stick to the truth even if it is against to you

Oh Salafiyyuun, be content with the path that we are upon (seeking knowledge and staying away from prohibitions), Insha Allah we live on that and we die on that. By Allah, if this (the salafiyyah) is not the truth then there is no truth on the earth. This is The Religion of Allah. Is the truth with the Soofiyyah ? Or with the Rafidah ? Or with the Ikhwan-ul-Muslimeen ? or with the hizbiyyin ? It could be that some groups have some truth with them, but the foundation of the truth is with people of truth and they are the source of the truth. And they know from where to take the truth. As for the people of innovations, they might accidentally follow the truth and they follow some part of the truth because it is suitable for their desires. As for the people of truth, they stick to truth what is for them and what is against them, not because it suited their wishes and desires, but they stick to the truth as a slavery to Allah.

What an evil thing that they did! making a salafi as hizbi or making a salafi as mamsookh (deformed one).

(A student has written a benefit to shaykh, he read out).

‘Whoever takes the rare issues (mistakes) of the ulama have left the religion’. So who ever searchs for various excuses mentioned by various scholars then he becomes a zindeeq (who left the religion).
Al Imam Dhahabi has said, “whoever searchs for excuses of various madhaahib and mistakes of the scholars of Ijtihaad, his deen will become weak’. Oh brother, take the truth whether it is for you or against you. Leave this playing with the deen. This shows the desire (of these people).

Breaking The Fast With An Odd Number Of Dates

1st Hadīth: Abu Ya'alā reported in his Musnad (3305) from the hadīth of Anas bin Mālik - may Allāh be pleased with him - said that the Prophet - salal-Āllahu ‘alahi wa salam - used to like to break his fast with three dates or something which was not cooked.

Note: In the chain of narration of the hadīth is Abdul-Wāhid bin Thābit. Al-Bukhāri said about him ‘Munkar al-ahādīth’ (his narrations are rejected).

Al-Imām al-Albānī also declared the hadīth extremely weak in as-Silsilah adh-Dhaīfah, hadīth numb. (966).

2nd Hadīth: Abu Bakr ash-Shāfi'ī reported in his Fawāid (1/105), from Jābir - may Allāh be pleased with him -said that he - salal-Āllahu ‘alahi wa salam - used to like to break his fast on fresh dates so long as they were there, and upon dried dates if there were no fresh dates. And he would (also have dates) after a meal and would eat them in odds; three or five or seven.

Note: In the chain of narration there is al-Farāzī, who is Muhammad bin Ubaidillāh. Al-Imām Ahmed said about him ‘the people (of hadīth) abandoned his narrations’.

Al-Imām al-Albanī declared the hadīth also extremely weak in his book as-Silsilah adh-Dhaīfah, hadīth numb. (1749).

The noble Shaykh Muhammad bin Sālih al-Uthaymīn - may Allāh have mercy on him - was asked:

I have heard that the fasting person at the time he breaks his fast must break his fast with an odd number of dates i.e. five or seven dates and so on. So, is this an obligation?

He responded:

This is not an obligation, in fact it is not a Sunnah for a person to break there fast with an odd number; three, five, seven, nine except on the day of ‘Eid, ‘Eid ul-Fitr. For it is established the Prophet - salal-Āllahu ‘alahi wa salam - never proceeded for the prayer on the Day of ‘Eid-ul-Fitr unless he had eaten some dates. He would eat an odd number of dates. And besides this, then indeed the Prophet - salal-Āllahu ‘alahi wa salam - did not used to intend that his eating of dates be in odd numbers.
