From The Tricks Of Shaytaan Regarding Thinking You Don’t Have Enough Time; From The Obstacles Facing The Student Of Knowledge; How You Know You Have Gained Beneficial Knowledge – Shaykh Abu Bakr Abu Zaid

From the tricks of the Shaytan is to say, “I don’t have enough time to memorize! I have a lot of things to attend to! I have responsibilities!” On average, we may take two-four hours to get to and come from work. If we are in a car, we can listen to the Qur’an and the texts we want to memorize. If we are in a bus, we can actually spend time memorizing instead of looking outside the window or checking out our messages on different types of social media. How about lunch time? Do we actually spend a whole hour eating? Or can we spend some time to eat, pray and memorize? And what about at home? Yes, we may have responsibilities but what does it take from us to spend at least an hour or two away from our devices to study or memorize something beneficial? In fact, we can spend an hour memorizing and an hour studying. Not saying that we are machines; we have to make time for our family, our jobs, etc., but from the great deceptions of Shaytaan is that he tells us we have no time and we believe him. So I have a challenge for all. Reduce your usage of all devices to 10-15 minutes per day and use the time you would have used for social media, he said and she said, for memorizing, reading, gaining benefit, etc, and I am sure everyone would see the difference within a week. May Allah guide us to what he loves and is pleased with.

Madrasah Mabadi Ul Uloom: From the obstacles facing the student of knowledge are:

1. Lack of sincerity

2. (Lack of) wanting power

3. He said/she said [i.e. spending time speaking about the people]

4. Pipe dreams. In other words saying I will do this and that without taking the neccessary steps.

5. Laziness and lack of effort.

6. Not following the proper method in seeking knowledge.

7. Not taking from the scholars and teachers.

8. Lack of reading and adherence to the Quran and Sunnah

9. Exaggerating in memorizing texts when one can choose one simple text that covers the most important aspects of a science. The primary issue is understanding and memorizing is the primary means to it.

Madrasah Mabadi Ul Uloom: How do you know that you have gained beneficial knowledge?

Shaikh Bakr Abu Zaid mentioned the following points:

1. If you act upon knowledge.

2. If you hate being praised.

3. That [as] you keep seeking knowledge, you increase in humility.

4. You dislike leadership.

5. You strive to do different forms of worship.

6. That you feel that you are in need of more knowledge.

If you look carefully some major scholars of hadeeth were non-arab. The bounty of Allah is wide.

Interpreting A Dream Without Knowledge – Shaykh Abdul-Aziz Ibn Abdullaah Al-Shaykh

Shaykh Abdul-Aziz Ibn Abdullaah Al-Shaykh said:

“The interpreters of Ru’yas, on the other hand, should fear Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) and beware of engaging in this field without sufficient knowledge, because interpreting a Ru’ya is like giving a Fatwa… Having said this, the field of interpreting dreams has expanded to the extent that there are now special programs on satellite channels, phone lines that reply to inquiries from the public, columns in newspapers and magazines, and places in clubs that aim to attract people and unjustly consume their wealth. All these practices are a great evil and trifle with this type of knowledge, which is part of prophethood. Once Malik (may Allah be merciful to him) was asked if it was permissible for any person to interpret Ru’ya, to which he replied: “Is prophethood to be played with?” Malik added: “Only those well-versed in interpreting Ru’ya should do so. If it bears glad tidings, one can narrate it; but if it bears an evil omen, one should say something good or else remain silent.” He was further asked: “Should one interpret it as glad tidings although he knows that it bears an evil omen, as the saying goes: It (a dream) will be realized as interpreted?” He replied: “No, Ru’ya is one part of prophethood which cannot be played with.” All Muslims should cooperate in preventing this evil, every one according to their capacity.

The Ruling Of Getting Acquainted With Someone – Shaykh Muhammad Nasiruddin Al-Albani

Shaykh Muhammad Nasiruddin Al-Albani was asked:

Question:

Our shaikh, is getting to know someone from the Sunnah?

Answer:

Many from the practicing people of Islaam, whether their understanding of Islaam is correct or is not correct [believe] that getting to know someone is from the Sunnah. This is not from the Sunnah in anything. The Sunnah is if you love a Muslim for the sake of Allah to tell him that. This is from the Sunnah.

As for let’s get to know each other [Oh] so and so, the son of so, and so and so, the son of so and so, he works such and such and is the employee of such and he studied such and such until the end of this, [then this] is blind following of Europe purely.

Then this getting to know each other does not exceed, this getting to know each other does not exceed to something, that is, legislated and [to think that] this is from the door as Allah said Azza wa jal:

يأَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَـكُم مِّن ذَكَرٍ وَأُنْثَى وَجَعَلْنَـكُمْ شُعُوباً وَقَبَآئِلَ لِتَعَـرَفُواْ إِنَّ أَكْرَمَكُمْ عَندَ اللَّهِ أَتْقَـكُمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ خَبِيرٌ

“O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted” [49:13]

So if getting to know each other is purely to know each other, then this is like one who makes wudu and does not pray. As for if he intends what is beyond that, that is, taking another step in finding something of connection and affection and love which is necessary, then there is no problem in it, however, with the condition that you do not take it as sunnah.

The Sunnah as we mentioned: “I love so and so for the sake of Allah”. So he comes with the reply, “May Allah for Whose sake you love me, love you”.

The Deviant Sect Of The Barelvis

The Barelvi movement is named after the town of Bareilly, India, from where this movement was originated.

We present below some of the beliefs of the Barelvis or the order of Nawary, as named after its current leader Nuwary, carry in mind that this sect is actually a product of the ahmadiyyah sect since it has been proven that the founder of the Barelvi sect Ahmad Raza Khan was initially a student of one of the heads of the ahmadiyyah sect and it is not surprising that this sect only happened to appear after the British colonialism in India.

Amongst what they believe is:

Believing that the Messenger (peace be upon him) is alive and is made from the light of Allah and it isn’t a human being.

Believing that the Messenger (peace be upon him) knows the Ghayb (unseen) and that the Prophet is an absolute assistant to Allah and he is present, especially after the Jumu`ah (Friday) Prayer.

Believing that the Messenger (peace be upon him) has the right of giving intercession in advance.

Believing in the Awliya’ (pious people) and the dead at whose graves they offer Salaah and ask for help.

Building domes and lighting the graves.

Repeating their famous supplication: “O Muhammad, the Messenger (peace be upon him)””

Getting angry with anyone who says Ta’min (saying: “Amin” after reciting Surah Al-Fatihah) aloud and raise their hands in Salah and considering them as belonging to the Wahhabi order.

Finding it extremely strange that people use Miswak (tooth-cleansing stick) before offering Salaah.

Kissing the fingers during Wudu’ (ablution) and Adhan (call to Prayer) as well as after Salaah.

Their Imam always recites the following Ayah (Qur’anic verse) after Salah: “Allâh sends His Salât (Graces, Honours, Blessings, Mercy) on the Prophet (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), and also His angels (ask Allâh to bless and forgive him)”. Consequently, the Ma’mums (persons being led by the Imam in Prayer) invoke Allah to send peace upon the Prophet collectively and loudly.

Building Masjids and being too preoccupied with decorating them in addition to writing on the Mihrab: “O Muhammad”.

Use of devotional music (and Sufi dhikr dances).

Considering themselves the followers of the Sunnah and true `Aqidah (creed) and deeming those who do not follow their order as wrong.

They may symbolizes their group through wearing green turbans or green scarfs.

Many of their leaders have the beliefs of the al-Maturidiyyah and the Atha’rees concerning the Names of Allah which is it to distort and negate the apparent meanings of the attributes of Allah.

Some went so far in exaggeration for the Prophet sallahu alayhi wa salam to the extent they allowed to name themselves “Abdul Mustapha”

Adding to this:

They (their mu’adhin) send the Salat and Salaam on the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihe Wasallam) before every adhan.

They stand for Salah when the mu’adhin says: “I bear witness that Mohammed (Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam) is the Messenger of Allah” in iqamah.

They (their mu’adhin) send the Salat and Salaam on the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihe Wasallam) before every adhan

Rulings Pertaining Fasting [Summarised]

*Advice to the Fasting Person – Shaikh Abdullah al-Iryaani حفظه الله*

_The Shaikh حفظه الله said:_

“And in the end, we advise with having Taqwa of Allah, the Exalted, seriousness and striving in the obedience of Allah, worship, obtaining understanding of the religion, holding fast to reading, and reciting the Noble Qur’an.

Beware of four matters:

*First:* Beware of heedlessness, for the month of Ramadan is not a month of amusement, games, staying up at night and following Television series, and competitions. Rather it is a month of obedience and hastening to the pleasure of the Lord of the creation.

*Second:* Beware of being preoccupied with a large diversity and variety of food from striving in standing for prayer and increasing in the recitation of the Quran. For Ramadan is not a month to make ‘Itikaaf in the kitchen, busying with travelling, and wedding banquets. Rather, it is a month for the Muslim male and female to reach the level of one fasting and praying.

*Third:* Beware of being negligent at the end of Ramadan from continuing to recite the Quran, striving in supplication, and silent supplication to Allah. For verily actions depend on the end. For many people, unfortunately, are preoccupied from Layltul-Qadr and its blessing with Eid clothing, going from market to market, and exhibition to exhibition. The guidance of the Prophet is doing ‘Itikaaf in the last ten nights of Ramadan and seeking Layltul Qadr in it.

*Fourth:* Beware of procrastination. For how many people are in heedlessness, so when month of Ramadan ends they feel remorse and loss. Then he makes contracts, promises, and covenants that if Allah allows him to reach the next Ramadan that he will strive in Ramadan and make time for Ramadan from the beginning. When that promised Ramadan comes to him, he is in that same heedlessness and negligence. Like this, in Allah aid is sought, he is consistent in procrastination every year.

So you Oh slave of Allaah have made many promises that you have broken, many contracts you have nullified, is it not now that you should be truthful with Allah? Is it not now that you should fulfill your covenant with Allah? Then this is Ramadan that you have reached so there is nothing upon you except to be truthful to Allah and seek His assistance in righteous actions“.

Reviving the Sunnah of The Black Musk
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Beautiful advice from the Shaykh Al ‘Allaamah 'Abdul 'Azeez Ibn Baaz (rahimullah):

It was said to the shaykh,

“Oh shaykh, so and so has become misguided”. The Shaykh replied:

“Perhaps his deviation was due to two things:
1. He didn’t ask Allâh for Ath-thabaat (firmness).
2. He didn’t thank Allâh for Al-Istiqaamah (steadfastness)

So when Allâh chose for you the path of guidance, it was not because you are special, nor was it because of your obedience. But rather, it was a mercy from Him that enveloped you. He can remove it from you at any time.

Therefore, do not be deceived by your actions nor by your worship. And do not look down upon the one who has deviated from His path. For had it not been due to His mercy, you would have been in his position.

Repeat the recitation of this verse while pondering:

﴿ ولوﻵ أن ثبتناك لقد كدت تركن إليهم شيئا قليلا ﴾

"Had We not made you firm (Oh Muhammed صلى الله عيه وسلم) then you would have inclined towards them slightly.”

So upon is to not to think that thabaat (firmness) upon Al-Istiqaamah (steadfastness) is due to your own personal achievements. Ponder over His statement (Ta'aalaa) to the best of mankind: “Had We not made you firm (Oh Muhammad صلى الله عيه وسلم).”

So how about you?!

We are greatly mistaken when we disregard and pay no attention to our athkaar (supplications of remembrance). We believe it to be something that is not important and we forget that Allâh preserves us with it. And perhaps the decree will change…

Ibnul-Qayyim says:
“The need of the servant in his supplications by which he seeks refuge [in Allah], is more severe than his need for food, drink and clothes!”

Be consistent in your athkaar (supplications of remembrance), so that you can encompass the meaning:
“Preserve Allâh, He will preserve you.”

Fortify [yourselves] every morning and evening [with your athkaar (supplications of remembrance)]. For the dunya (life of this world) is horrifying and full of surprises and Allâh is the protector of His servants.

Ash Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Saalih Al Uthaymeen رحمه الله said:

"Thus what is obligatory upon every believing Muslim, that he fears Allah Aza Wa Jal when he speaks regarding the meaning of a verse from the speech of Allah, and that he be cautious. He should not say except that which he knows is the intent, or he thinks that most likely this is the intent. As for if their is doubt then it is not permissible for him to speak regarding anything."

Using calculations to figure out the month of Ramadan

Regarding those who say it's Okay
Imam as Sanaani mentioned "A clear response against them...." is the following narration

Ibn `Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "We are an illiterate nation; we neither write, nor know astronomical calculations/computations. The month is like this and this, i.e. sometimes of 29 days and sometimes of thirty days." [Bukhari and Muslim]

Imam Sideeq Hassan Khan said that calculations in figuring out the days and months due to the stages of the moon is an innovation by consensus of the (muslim) nation.

Lajnah Daimah said

"Returning to astronomy in affirming the lunar months, for the starting of acts of worship or exiting from it without using eye sight is an innovation which has no good in it nor does it have any evidence for it in the legislation."

And Ibn Daqeeq Al Eid said:

"That which I Say is that the calculations is not permissible to be relied upon in regards to fasting"

It is upon a slave to have suhoor even if you are not in need of it or not hungry -- even if you have one date or drink some water just to display the Sunnah and for the barakah which the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم mentioned.

Eat suhoor, for in the suhoor there is blessing.

And he also said:

Suhoor all of it is a blessing. So don’t leave it even if you have to take a sip of water because Allaah سبحانه و تعالى and His Angels send their mercy on those who have suhoor."

And it is from the mannerism of suhoor to delay it, until it is close to fajr time.
