بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Due to the ongoing outbreak of Covid-19, it is with regret that ALL our weekly lessons at The Selby Centre are CANCELLED until further notice.
As believers in Allah we are required to take our precautions in trials like these, whilst returning to Allah and increasing in actions.
From the objectives of the Islamic Sharee'ah is the Preservation of Religion and Preservation of Life. These are matters ordained by our Creator which we remind ourselves and the Muslim Community. After taking advice from our Senior Brothers, we decided to cancel all classes. Taking this decision and consulting each other is something advised in the Quran as Allah says,
"And consult them in the matter. And when you have decided, then rely upon Allah . Indeed, Allah loves those who rely [upon Him]" .
Surah Imraan, 159.
Aswell as relying upon Allah we have to take precautions, as Allah says,
یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ خُذُوا۟ حِذۡرَكُمۡ الآية
Oh you who believe! Take your precautions...(4:71)
So based on this and the fact that this disease can spread rapidly in a place where alot of people gather, as well as not knowing whether the Selby Centre would continue to be open or closed as they are not giving us certainty and the partial suspension of public transport; We have therefore, with regret, decided all lessons and talks at TOTTENHAM DAWAH are cancelled untill further notice.
I ask Allah to aid the muslims and make a way out for us from these times of calamities.
Jazakamuallahu Khairaan for your patience with us and our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

▪️What do you say when the mu'adhin says, "Aṣ-Ṣalātu khayrum min-an-Nawm" & "Ṣallū fī buyūtikum"▪️
Our Shaykh, Muḥammad ibn Ḥizām -may Allāh preserve him- was asked the following question:
📩 Question:
The questioner says: What does the one repeating after the Mu'adhin say if hears him say,
((الصلاة خير من النوم))
'Prayer is better than sleep'
(which is said in the first adhān of Fajr)?
📝 Answer:
Nothing authentic has come in this regard, so the correct opinion is that one remains silent.
As for what some individuals say; "Ṣadaqta wā bararta" [you have spoken the truth], then there is nothing to support this.
Also, one should not repeat (these words) after the mu'adhin, because the purpose behind repeating after the mu'adhin is for people to follow (and repeat) after the rememberances, however, "prayer is better than sleep" is not considered a rememberance, as opposed to, "Allāhu Akbar" [Allāh is the greatest!] - which is a rememberance.
Hence, when the mu'adhin says, "Ḥayya 'ala-ṣ-Ṣalāh" & "Ḥayya 'alal-Falāḥ" [come to prayer & come to success] one does not repeat these statements (after mu'adhin) as the Sharee'ah has substituted that with a rememberance; "Lā hawla wa Lā quwwata illā Billāh" [there is no power and no strength except with Allāh]. And this is an appropriate substitution, because the slave does not undertake any act of worship except with the help of Allāh.
The meanings of 'Hayya 'ala-ṣ-Ṣalāh' and Hayya 'ala-l-Falāḥ' are 'come to prayer', 'come to sucess', and because it is not appropriate for one to repeat after the mu'adhin in this instance, it has been replaced with a word of rememberance, '"Lā hawla wa Lā quwwata illā Billāh" .
As for the mu'adhin's saying, 'prayer is better than sleep', no substitution has come in this case; not "Lā hawla wa Lā quwwata illā Billāh", or anything else, so one remains silent upon hearing this.
Similarly, when the mu'adhin says, 'pray in your homes' or 'pray in your residence', this takes the same ruling; meaning, you should not repeat them after the mu'adhin - unlike the rest of the adhān, and -in shā Allāh--you will get the full reward.

Seeing as most of us are going to be offering our prayers at home/offices with our families/ colleagues, here's something to bear in mind:
JAMĀ'AH FORMATIONS
1⃣
If there are 2 MALES praying together, then all, but a few, of the scholars have said that the Imām stands on the left and the one being led stands on the right of the Imām, in line with him.
The proof for this is the Ḥadīth of Ibn 'Abbās, may Allāh be pleased him, where he said:
"I prayed with the Prophet (ﷺ) one night and stood on his left side. Allāh's Messenger (ﷺ) caught hold of my head from behind and drew me to his right and then offered the (night) prayer and slept. [Bukhāri & Muslim]
Most of the scholars have also said that if the one being led stands on the left of the Imām, instead of the right side, the pray is still valid, but he has opposed the Sunnah. The proof for this is the fact that, in the aforementioned Ḥadīth, the Prophet ﷺ did not instruct Ibn 'Abbās to restart his prayer, but rather, after the Prophet ﷺ drew him to the other side, he continued on with his prayer.
NOTE:
Everything mentioned above applies to women. So, if there are two women praying together, the one leading stands on the left, and the one being led stands on the right.
2️⃣
If there are 3 males praying together, the Imām stands at the front, and the rest form a row behind him.
The proof for this is the long Ḥadīth of Jābir which is reported by Muslim towards the end of his Ṣahīh. In the Ḥadīth, Jābir was standing on the right of the Prophet ﷺ in prayer, then, another Ṣaḥābī by the name of Jabbār ibn Ṣakhr, joined in and stood on the left of the Prophet ﷺ, so the Prophet ﷺ took them (Jābir & Jabbār) both by their hands and drew them back.
If there are more than three males praying together, then there is ijmā' (consensus) that everyone stands in line behind the Imām.
3️⃣,4️⃣,6️⃣,7️⃣&8️⃣
Anas, may Allāh be pleased with him, narrated:
"The Prophet (ﷺ) prayed in the house of Umm Sulaim; and I, along with an orphan stood behind him while Umm Sulaim (stood) behind us."
[Bukhāri & Muslim]
If a man is praying with a woman, then -according to the Ḥadīth of Anas above- the woman stands behind the men/Imām. If another male joins this congregation, he goes and stands on the right of the Imām, and if a third male joins, the Imām should take a step forward so that the two men can form a row behind him, and in all of the above cases, the woman remains alone behind the males. If another woman joins this congregation, she will stand in line with this woman.

The Ruling on People Making Adhaan in the Streets and Above their Houses to Ward off the Coronavirus
Question : Assalamu Alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu O, our Shaikh
May Allah be good to you
It is found in some lands that people are making Adhaan in the streets and after the 'Isha prayer above their houses as a way to ward off this epidemic [i.e. the Coronavirus]. Does this action have an origin in the Legislation? May Allah reward you.
Answer:
"Wa Alaykum us-Salam wa rahmatullahi wa baraktuhu
This is from ignorance. The Adhaan has its well-known position [in the Religion] based on evidence from the Legislation. The Adhaan is a communal obligation used to announce the entrance of the time for prayer. Some of the Scholars have also permitted it be recited in the ear of the newborn and the likes. As for people performing the Adhaan in the streets or above their houses in order to ward off this epidemic, then this is from ignorance!
Just yesterday some people in the Arab countries performed what resembled a demonstration. What resembled a march! People gathering together and walking in the streets with Takbeer and likes. Such an action more closely resembles displeasure [with Allah and His decree] than it resembles humility towards Him. This is ignorance. This is not humility [before Allah] nor is supplication made like this. Such people should be treated kindly and taught what to do. It is necessary that they:
- Be patient
- Seek the reward of Allah
- Have Imaan that what is decreed for them will occur
- Repent to Allah, the Exalted
- Increase in seeking refuge in Allah
- Increase in the remembrance of Allah, Tasbeeh, Tahmeed, Tahlil, Takbeer, Hawqala (saying La huwa la wa la Quwatta ila billah), sending salutations on the Prophet (ﷺ)
- Guard the remembrances which are specific for the morning and evening and when sleeping
- Guard the obligatory prayers and likewise the Sunnah ar-Raatibah
- Be keen on giving charity and supporting the poor and the needy
- Have humility before Allah
- Make dua especially in the times when it is answered and the likes of that from the righteous deeds
O my brothers, may Allah grant you success, write posts in every language about this matter. I have written a summarized article on performing Qunut [in regards to this epidemic illness] which will be published soon in Shaa Allah.
So I urge the Students of Knowledge of every land to write in every language on the correct stance in relation to this epidemic illness [i.e. the Coronavirus] and spread it through social media to the people, even if it be in a summarized manner such as this post, in order to teach them.
May Allah grant us all success towards all that is good.

🌱 *Sunnah to Fast in Sha'ban*🌱
It is narrated from Usama ibn Zayd (رضي الله عنه) that he asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ):
“ *I have never seen you offer fast in a month as you do in Sha'ban*.”
To which, the Prophet (ﷺ) replied:
“ *It is a month between Rajab and Ramadan that people disregard. In that month deeds are presented to the Lord of the Worlds, so I like my deeds to be presented while I am fasting*.” (Nasai)
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
🍃 *Clarifying the Doubt of Fasting the Second half of Sha'ban*🍃
Imaam Al-Nawawi (رحمه الله) said: “He used to fast all of Sha’ban and fast all of Sha’ban except a few days.” The second phrase is an explanation of the first, pointing out that by *“all”* what is meant is *“most”*.
This hadeeth indicates that it is permissible to fast after halfway through Sha’ban, but only for one who joins that to what came before the halfway point.
An exception from this prohibition is also made for one who is making up missed Ramadaan fasts.
📚 *Source:*
Al-Majmoo’ (6/399)
🔦 *Benefits of Fasting in the Month Sha'ban*
Fasting Sha'ban gives one the opportunity to start preparing for the month of Ramadan. When fasting, one must wake up early at Fajr time, and spends the day without eating and drinking, training himself for the fast of Ramadan.
Also reading the Noble Qur'an more in Sha'ban will aid one in reciting it in Ramadan. If one becomes accustomed with sitting and reading Qur'an in Sha'ban, by the permission of Allah, it will be easier for him in Ramadan.
Likewise, in this month the deeds of a person are presented in front of Allah, the Most-High, therefore, it becomes more beneficial if the deeds are presented at such a time when a person is in the condition of fasting.
And Allah knows best.

Aishah (رضي الله عنها) reported:The Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) did not observe voluntary Saum (fasting) so frequently during any other month as he did during Shaban. He observed Saum all of the month of Shaban.
And in another narration: He (ﷺ) observed Saum during the whole month of Shaban except a few days.[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
