الحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله
صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وصحبه وسلم
أما بعد:

We find some Muslims invoking mercy upon a Christian journalist who died upon Kufr. Some of them go as far as calling her a Shaheed (martyr), and some as far as affirming Jannah for her.

Let's ignore the fact that she defended the Palestinian people and the fact that she condemned the Jewish aggression. In fact, let's ignore every good and noble deed that she ever did, simply because dying in the state of Kufr renders all of that useless.

What do you think this is?

There is no flattery when it comes to Tawheed!

Allah says regarding the deeds of the Kuffar:

{ وَقَدِمۡنَاۤ إِلَىٰ مَا عَمِلُوا۟ مِنۡ عَمَلࣲ فَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُ هَبَاۤءࣰ مَّنثُورًا }

“And We shall turn to the deeds they have done and scatter them like dust.”
[Surah Al-Furqân: 23]

What's more, Allah praises 18 Prophets under one context in Suratul An'am, then after praising them, concludes:

{وَلَوۡ أَشۡرَكُوا۟ لَحَبِطَ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ}

“If they had associated partners with Him, all their deeds would have come to nothing.” [Surah Al-Anâm: 88]

There is no flattery when it comes to Tawheed - not even in the case of Prophets and Messengers!

Let's state the facts:

Fact 1:
Anyone who dies upon Kufr will abide in Hell forever as Allah said:

{ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَمَاتُوا۟ وَهُمۡ كُفَّارٌ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ عَلَیۡهِمۡ لَعۡنَةُ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةِ وَٱلنَّاسِ أَجۡمَعِینَ (161) خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَا لَا یُخَفَّفُ عَنۡهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ وَلَا هُمۡ یُنظَرُونَ (162) }

“Surely those who disbelieve and die as disbelievers are condemned by Allah, the angels, and all of humanity. * They will be in Hell forever. Their punishment will not be lightened, nor will they be delayed ˹from it˺.”
[Surah Al-Baqarah: 161-162]

Fact 2:
It is Haraam to seek mercy and forgiveness for the Kuffar as Allah said:

{ مَا كَانَ لِلنَّبِیِّ وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ أَن یَسۡتَغۡفِرُوا۟ لِلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ وَلَوۡ كَانُوۤا۟ أُو۟لِی قُرۡبَىٰ مِنْ بَعۡدِ مَا تَبَیَّنَ لَهُمۡ أَنَّهُمۡ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡجَحِیمِ }

“It is not ˹proper˺ for the Prophet and the believers to seek forgiveness for the polytheists, even if they were close relatives, after it has become clear to the believers that they are bound for the Hellfire.”
[Surah At-Tawbah: 113]

Abu Hurairah radhiyallahu 'anhu reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) visited the grave of his mother and he wept, and moved others around him to tears, and said: I sought permission from my Lord to beg forgiveness for her but it was not granted to me, and I sought permission to visit her grave and it was granted to me so visit the graves, for that makes you mindful of death.
[Muslim]

Fact 3:
It is not permissible to say of any individual Muslim -let alone a non-Muslim- who dies fighting in Allah's cause that he died a Shaheed (martyr) - unless there is specific evidence testifying to that.
For example, the Prophet (ﷺ) once climbed the mountain of Uhud with Abu Bakr, 'Umar and 'Uthman. The mountain shook with them, so the Prophet (ﷺ) said (to the mountain), "Be firm, O Uhud! For on you there are no more than a Prophet, a Siddiq and two martyrs (referring to 'Umar and 'Uthman). [Bukhari]

So on the basis of this hadeeth, we can testify that 'Umar and 'Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them both) both died as martyrs.

Fact 4:
We have to make an effort to learn the correct Islamic 'Aqeedah and teach it to others. Otherwise we'll be overtaken by emotions and fall into the same mistakes that these Muslims have fallen into ولا حولا ولا قوة إلا بالله
Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "The Jews and the Christians do not dye (their grey hair), so you shall do the opposite of what they do (i.e. dye your grey hair and beards).

Fear The Consequences Of Raising Your Opinion Over The Prophet’s ﷺ Sunnah!

Al-Imaam Ibnul-Qayyim, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said:

"If raising voices over the voice of the Prophet ﷺ is from the destroyers of deeds, then what do you think about raising opinions and ideologies above his sunnah and that which he came with."

Part Of The Test

Al-Imaam Abul-Faraj Ibnul-Jawzi, may Allaah have mercy upon him:

"I think part of the test is when a believer supplicates and receives no response, and he repeats the Du'aa (supplication) for a long time and sees no sign of a response. He should realise that this is a test and needs patience.

What a person experiences of waswaas (whispers from the devils) when the response is delayed is a sickness which needs medicine. I have experienced this myself. A calamity befell me and I supplicated and did not see any response, and Iblees (the devil) started to lay his traps.

Sometimes he said: The generosity (of Allaah) is abundant and He is not miserly, so why is there a delay?

I said to him: Be gone, O cursed one, for I have no need of anyone to argue my case and I do not want you as a supporter!

Then I told myself: Beware of going along with his whispers, for if there was no other reason for the delay except that Allaah is testing you to see whether you will fight the enemy, that is sufficient wisdom.

My nafs (soul) said: How could you explain the delay in the response of Allaah to your prayers for relief from this calamity?

I said: It is proven with evidence that Allaah, 'Azza wa Jal, is the Sovereign, and the Sovereign may withhold or give, so there is no point in objecting to Him.

Secondly, the wisdom behind that is proven in definitive evidence.

I may think that something is good, but wisdom does not dictate it, but the reason for that may be hidden, just as a doctor may do things that appear outwardly to be harmful, intending some good purpose thereby. Perhaps this is something of that nature.

Thirdly, there may be an interest to be served by delay, and haste may be harmful.

The Prophet, صلى الله عليه وسلم، said:

A person will be fine so long as he does not become impatient and says, ‘I prayed but I did not receive any answer.’

Fourthly, the response may be withheld because of some fault in you.

Perhaps there was something dubious in what you ate or your heart was heedless at the time when you said the Du'aa, or your punishment is being increased by means of your need being withheld, because of some sin from which you have not repented sincerely.

So look for some of these reasons, so that you might achieve your aim.

Fifthly, you should examine the intention behind this request, because attaining it may lead to more sin or prevent you from doing some good, so withholding it is better.

It was narrated that one of the Salaf used to ask Allaah to help him to go out on campaign, but a voice called out to him:

If you go out on campaign you will be taken prisoner, and if you are taken prisoner you will become a Christian!

Lastly, perhaps losing what you have missed out on will cause you to turn to Allaah and getting it will distract you from Him.

This is obvious, based on the fact that were it not for this calamity you would not have turned to Him, because the real calamity is what distracts you from Him, but what makes you stand before Him is good for you and is in your best interests.

If you ponder these things you will focus on what is more beneficial for you, such as correcting a mistake or seeking forgiveness or standing before Allaah and beseeching Him, and forget about what you have missed out on."
