One Way To Possibly Stop The Coronavirus
Ibn Katheer, may Allaah have mercy upon him, mentions that in the year 478 AH (1085 CE) a disease and plague accompanied by severe fever broke out in Iraq, Syria and Hijaz.
It caused both domestic and wild animals to die, leaving the people with no meat or milk. It was accompanied by black winds and thunderbolts that brought down entire trees. The people thought that Judgement Day had arrived!
In order to combat this epidemic, the Abbasid Caliph Al-Muqtadee Bi-Amrillaah (d. 487 AH/1094 CE) commanded that everyone strive to command the good and forbid the evil.
Every musical instrument was crushed and destroyed, bottles of alcohol were smashed and spilled, and the wicked were exiled from the land. Soon thereafter the disease disappeared.

From the noble traits of a believer is that he reflects over the creation of Allah, as Allah said:
"Those who remember Allah (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and think deeply about the creation of the heavens and the earth, (saying): "Our Lord! You have not created (all) this without purpose, glory to You! (Exalted be You above all that they associate with You as partners). Give us salvation from the torment of the Fire."
[Surat Aal-E-Imran 191]
As-Sa'dee (may Allah have mercy on him) said in his commentary on this ayah:
دل هذا على أن التفكر عبادة من صفات أولياء الله العارفين
This proves that "reflection" is itself an act of worship - which is a trait of the righteous...
With that said...
There are so many lessons that can be drawn from this current virus:
Here are some of them:
_________
1. The Prophet ﷺ advised:
"Remember frequently the destroyer of pleasures (i.e death)"
*Shukran for the reminder yaa corona!*
- Whether we like it or not, everyone shall taste death.
Allah said:
(كُلُّ نَفۡسࣲ ذَاۤىِٕقَةُ ٱلۡمَوۡتِۗ}
"Every soul will taste death."
[Surat Aal-E-Imran 185]
"Everything is bound to perish except He Himself (Allah)."
[Surat Al-Qasas 88]
- Death is a fact of life; an inevitable certainty. No matter how rich, strong, clever, beautiful, or young a person is - they will not, & cannot escape death.
Allah said:
"Wherever you may be, death will overcome you—even if you were in fortified towers.”
[Surat An-Nisa' 78]
-----------------------------
2. "The average lifespan of this Ummah is between 60 - 70; *only a few live over that*." - as the Prophet ﷺ said.
This virus is a stark reminder of this fact - is it not???
- One news outlet writes:
"Action to isolate the UK's *over-70s* for an extended period to shield them from coronavirus is planned in the coming weeks, Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said...
*All deaths so far have been of people over 60 or with underlying conditions.*
- mind you, that's no reason for you under 60's to get excited!
In fact, I came home yesterday to find my road cordoned off by police; a teen met his fate - 3 shots to the head!
-------------------------------
3. The cause and spread of this virus is due to our sins.
Here's why:
Firstly: Allah said:
"Whatever affliction befalls you is because of what your own hands have committed. And He pardons much."
[Surat Ash-Shura 30]
Secondly: it's said that the root cause of this desease is people (well...namely Chinese people) eating every moving creature, and to be precise - drinking *bat soup*. However, Allah clearly instructed:
(یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ كُلُوا۟ مِمَّا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ حَلَـٰلࣰا طَیِّبࣰا)
"O mankind! Eat from what is lawful and good."
[Surat Al-Baqarah 168]
Thirdly: when a plague strikes a land, the Prophet ﷺ directed the people of that land to remain put. But sadly, as soon as this virus broke out, many countries withdrew their official dignitaries...etc.
Fourthly: Also, Kenya reported it's first case a few days ago; a woman returning back from overseas.
Whatever happened to:
"A woman must not travel except with a mahram"?
---------------------------
4. Reflect over the might and power of Allah! Look at how He has humbled the so called 'super powers' and brought them to their knees.
- And the biggest super power to be effected by the wrath of this virus is...yes, you guessed it -
C H I N A.
*The same country that imprisons 1million innocent Muslims has imprisoned itself.*
Who knows, maybe the du'a of one of those oppressed Muslims was answered by All

5. Let us now draw some further comparisons.
A- Allah tells us that when the hour strikes:
"...every nursing mother will forget her nursling, and every pregnant one will drop her load, and you shall see mankind as in a drunken state, yet they will not be drunken, but severe will be the Torment of Allah."
[Surat Al-Hajj 2]
- isn't the sheer panic and havoc witnessed in the supermarkets a striking resemblance of this???
B- Allah said regarding the disbelievers:
(فَإِذَا رَكِبُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡفُلۡكِ دَعَوُا۟ ٱللَّهَ مُخۡلِصِینَ لَهُ ٱلدِّینَ فَلَمَّا نَجَّىٰهُمۡ إِلَى ٱلۡبَرِّ إِذَا هُمۡ یُشۡرِكُونَ)
"If they happen to be aboard a ship ˹caught in a storm˺, they cry out to Allah ˹alone˺ in sincere devotion. But as soon as He delivers them ˹safely˺ to shore, they associate ˹others with Him once again˺."
[Surat Al-Ankabut 65]
- recently Donald trump tweeted something along the lines of, "We should turn to God in prayer...".
C- we are being told to wash our hands to stop the spread of this virus, like we (as Muslims) don't already wash our hands!
- we wash our hands before praying several times a day (wudhu)
- we wash/wipe our hands after eating
- we wash our hands after intercourse & prior to eating
D - our niqabi sisters are the most well protected members of the public (by their own admission). Not only because they wear a face mask (niqab) and a set of gloves when outdoors, but because they do a lot of self isolating - as Allah instructed them to:
(وَقَرۡنَ فِی بُیُوتِكُنَّ وَلَا تَبَرَّجۡنَ تَبَرُّجَ ٱلۡجَـٰهِلِیَّةِ ٱلۡأُولَىٰۖ
"And stay in your houses, and do not display yourselves like that of the times of ignorance."
[Surat Al-Ahzab 33]
E - not only has it caused panic, this virus has grounded flights, stopped businesses operating, and brought the stock markets to a standstill. It was predicted that by 2020 we'd be driving flying cars, instead, we're being taught how to wash our hands.
So when the evidences indicate that technology is going to crush and that the final battle (between the kuffar and the Muslims) will be with swords and archery...We shouldn't be surprised!

Ibn Umar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “O emigrants, there are five things with which you will be tested and I seek refuge in Allah that you will live to see them. Promiscuity never becomes widespread among people but that they will be afflicted by plagues and diseases that were unknown to their forefathers. They do not cheat in weights and measures but that they will be stricken with famine, calamity, and the oppression of rulers. They do not withhold charity from their wealth but that rain will be withheld from the sky, and were it not for the animals there would be no rain at all. They do not break their covenant with Allah and his messenger but that Allah will enable their enemies to overpower them and take what is in their hands. Their leaders must rule according to the Book of Allah and seek every good from what Allah has revealed, lest Allah will cause them to fight each other.”

Warning about Friday prayers in homes
*Much questions/calls* about Friday prayers in countries that prevented prayers in the mosque for fear of Corona Virus
The answer was to pray *dhuhr* in their homes and where they were, and it is not suitable for a separate Friday in the houses.
This is the fatwa of the permanent committee and the fatwa of our Sheikh Abdul Mohsen Al-Abbad and our Sheikh Yahya bin Ali Al-Hajouri, may Allah Almighty protect them.

▪️Questions sent from America concerning the CORONAVIRUS▪️
Our Shaykh, Muḥammad ibn Ḥizām -may Allāh preserve him- was asked the following questions:
📩 QUESTION 1:
Is it permissible for a Muslim to avoid attending the congregational prayers as well as the Jumu'ah prayer in the masjid due to fear of Coronavirus - bearing in mind that the effect of this virus and its spread is something proven/true?
📝 ANSWER:
If the virus has spread amongst the people in that community and he strongly believes that he may be infected, then he is excused from attending the congregation.
However, in reality, this affair has been blown out of proportion.
Firstly, the spread/transmission of this virus (from one person to the next) is not something certain; everything is the hands of Allah.
Secondly, the number of people infected by this virus is very few, in comparison to those are un-infected.
Therefore, it's not appropriate for a Muslim to leave off attending the Friday prayer as well as the congregational prayers due to this. He must place his trust in Allah and take the precautionary measures; such as, avoiding physical contact, wearing a face mask, and avoiding mixing with people (unnecessarily). As for leaving off the congregation, then a Muslim should not do so.

📩 QUESTION 2:
Is it permissible to combine between the prayers due to the coronavirus?
📝 ANSWER:
No, they must not combine between the prayers. One must place his trust in Allah ﷻ along with taking the necessary precautions that were mentioned previously, and he must offer each prayer at its appointed time.
{قُل لَّن یُصِیبَنَاۤ إِلَّا مَا كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ لَنَا هُوَ مَوۡلَىٰنَاۚ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلۡیَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ}

📩 QUESTION 3:
In light of the authorities restricting public gatherings to a maximum of fifty people, is it permissible for us to establish more than one Friday prayer, I.e. fufty people attend the first khuṭbah, then another fifty in the next, and so on?
📝 ANSWER:
What is correct is that it is not not legislated to establish more than one Friday prayer in the same venue. If the authorities have placed these restrictions, then they should pray in different locations. As for establishing more than one Friday prayer in the same venue, then there's no proof for this.
I see that they should pray in different locations; some of them should pray in the masjid, and others elsewhere.
May Allah relieve us and you all.

📩 QUESTION 4:
Some of the masjids which establish the congregational prayers (in these times) do so in a strange manner; that is, they say, due to this virus, eveyone must line up three feet apart from each other. So, is this considered a congregational prayer and is the prayer offered in this manner valid?
📝 ANSWER:
This is incorrect.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Stand close together in your rows, keep nearer to one another, and put your necks in line."
Straightening the rows is by standing next to one another with the ankles in line.
Whereas, these people are leaving gaps between the rows, and the Prophet ﷺ clearly said:
((لا تذروا فرجات للشيطان))
"Do not leave gaps for Shayṭān."
And he ﷺ said:
"Why do you not stand in rows as the angels do before their Lord?" We asked: "O Messenger of Allāh! how do the angels stand in rows before their Lord?" He (ﷺ) replied, "They complete each row beginning with the first and filling all the gaps."
So everyone should stand feet to feet.
Furthermore, this virus is not (commonly) transmitted by standing feet to feet. It is transmitted via the mouth and the nose, or even the eyes, and also through hand contact. As for it being transmitted by feet contact, then this is unrealistic.

Is it permissible to combine between the prayers due to the coronavirus?
📝 ANSWER:
No, they must not combine between the prayers. One must place his trust in Allah ﷻ along with taking the necessary precautions that were mentioned previously, and he must offer each prayer at its appointed time.
{قُل لَّن یُصِیبَنَاۤ إِلَّا مَا كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ لَنَا هُوَ مَوۡلَىٰنَاۚ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلۡیَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ}
Say, “Nothing will ever befall us except what Allah has destined for us. He is our Protector.” So in Allah let the believers put their trust.

Fatawa of Sheikh Muhammad bin Hizam Al-Ba'dany
Miscellaneous Fatwas and Islamic verdicts from the Quran and Sunnah, and authentic statements of the Companions and Salaf, and general Guidance and Advice from the Methodology of the Salaf and Creed of the Rightous predecessors
Due to the ongoing outbreak of Covid-19, it is with regret that ALL our weekly lessons at The Selby Centre are CANCELLED until further notice.
As believers in Allah we are required to take our precautions in trials like these, whilst returning to Allah and increasing in actions.
From the objectives of the Islamic Sharee'ah is the Preservation of Religion and Preservation of Life. These are matters ordained by our Creator which we remind ourselves and the Muslim Community. After taking advice from our Senior Brothers, we decided to cancel all classes. Taking this decision and consulting each other is something advised in the Quran as Allah says,
"And consult them in the matter. And when you have decided, then rely upon Allah . Indeed, Allah loves those who rely [upon Him]" .
Surah Imraan, 159.
Aswell as relying upon Allah we have to take precautions, as Allah says,
Oh you who believe! Take your precautions...(4:71)
So based on this and the fact that this disease can spread rapidly in a place where alot of people gather, as well as not knowing whether the Selby Centre would continue to be open or closed as they are not giving us certainty and the partial suspension of public transport; We have therefore, with regret, decided all lessons and talks at TOTTENHAM DAWAH are cancelled untill further notice.
I ask Allah to aid the muslims and make a way out for us from these times of calamities.
Jazakamuallahu Khairaan for your patience with us and our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

▪️What do you say when the mu'adhin says, "Aṣ-Ṣalātu khayrum min-an-Nawm" & "Ṣallū fī buyūtikum"▪️
Our Shaykh, Muḥammad ibn Ḥizām -may Allāh preserve him- was asked the following question:
📩 Question:
The questioner says: What does the one repeating after the Mu'adhin say if hears him say,
'Prayer is better than sleep'
(which is said in the first adhān of Fajr)?
📝 Answer:
Nothing authentic has come in this regard, so the correct opinion is that one remains silent.
As for what some individuals say; "Ṣadaqta wā bararta" [you have spoken the truth], then there is nothing to support this.
Also, one should not repeat (these words) after the mu'adhin, because the purpose behind repeating after the mu'adhin is for people to follow (and repeat) after the rememberances, however, "prayer is better than sleep" is not considered a rememberance, as opposed to, "Allāhu Akbar" [Allāh is the greatest!] - which is a rememberance.
Hence, when the mu'adhin says, "Ḥayya 'ala-ṣ-Ṣalāh" & "Ḥayya 'alal-Falāḥ" [come to prayer & come to success] one does not repeat these statements (after mu'adhin) as the Sharee'ah has substituted that with a rememberance; "Lā hawla wa Lā quwwata illā Billāh" [there is no power and no strength except with Allāh]. And this is an appropriate substitution, because the slave does not undertake any act of worship except with the help of Allāh.
The meanings of 'Hayya 'ala-ṣ-Ṣalāh' and Hayya 'ala-l-Falāḥ' are 'come to prayer', 'come to sucess', and because it is not appropriate for one to repeat after the mu'adhin in this instance, it has been replaced with a word of rememberance, '"Lā hawla wa Lā quwwata illā Billāh" .
As for the mu'adhin's saying, 'prayer is better than sleep', no substitution has come in this case; not "Lā hawla wa Lā quwwata illā Billāh", or anything else, so one remains silent upon hearing this.
Similarly, when the mu'adhin says, 'pray in your homes' or 'pray in your residence', this takes the same ruling; meaning, you should not repeat them after the mu'adhin - unlike the rest of the adhān, and -in shā Allāh--you will get the full reward.
