World Non-Governmental Organizations Day

World NGO Day was officially recognised in 2010 and adopted into the X Baltic Sea NGO Forum’s Final Statement Resolution in 2012. And in 2014 the NGO Day was inaugurated for the first time internationally. Today it is celebrated in more than 89 countries and over six continents.

The day is marked to make people aware of the importance of NGOs. Further, the day also celebrates the efforts of social workers and activists and honour their selfless efforts.

In an official statement of Josep Borrell, Vice-President of the European Union, he mentioned that in the post-coronavirus world, the Non-Governmental Organizations have played an essential part and they have, in fact, become the lynchpin of «living together.»

“Taking into account the opinion of the experts that Russia and the world are now "at the post-pandemic turning point" and the need of the world community to stabilize the epidemiological situation, which is possible thanks to the universal vaccination and the formation of collective immunity, we consider it possible to hold the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2021 in June 2-5. The Forum Organizing Committee will make every effort to hold the event, taking into account the existing security measures to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19), which have been carefully worked out with Rospotrebnadzor, according to the WHO requirements" – said Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, Executive Secretary of the SPIEF Organizing Committee.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which will take place on 2–5 June 2021, will be the first major congress and exhibition event in Russia since the beginning of the pandemic. Thanks to the continuous interaction of the SPIEF Organizing Committee and Rospotrebnadzor for the SPIEF dates to be set, which, according to experts, will fall on the so-called "post-pandemic break", which will allow the event to be held in the traditional format, subject to all precautions.

At each stage of the preparation of the forum, a set of measures will be strictly implemented to prevent the spread of a new coronavirus infection. In addition, the SPIEF Organizing Committee and Rospotrebnadzor are developing additional standards to ensure the safety of participants. Further steps to determine the formats for conducting sessions, requirements for personnel, special equipment for the venue of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will be formulated in the nearest future as part of the roadmap for the preparation of the event.

“The recovery of business activity, which is so awaited by all participants of economic sphere is possible only if strict adherence to security measures. This includes travel prophylaxis, on-site disinfectants, distance and respiratory protection, and vaccinations. It is the mass vaccination that will allow to create collective immunity in the shortest possible time and return to the volumes of interaction that existed before the pandemic” – commented Anton Kobyakov, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation, Executive Secretary of the SPIEF Organizing Committee.

Next generation leaders from over 100 countries will be invited to SPIEF

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on 2-5 June will open its doors to the international network of next generation leaders and entrepreneurs Friends for Leadership (FFL).

The new realities of the post-crisis world order will be discussed by young opinion leaders from more than 100 countries, selected by the FFL on the basis of the UN75 Friends for SDGs Online Contest together with such partners as the Roscongress Foundation, the UN Information Center in Moscow, UN 75 Office, TV-BRICS and the Center for International Promotion Fund.

Participants of the SPIEF International Youth Program will continue their work on promoting multilateral economic and humanitarian projects, which has been developed at the Roscongress Foundation venues since 2018. Many projects will help attract new, demanded ideas and technologies to Russia and other countries.

The permanent international Friends for Leadership pool brings together people selected by the UN and involved in economic and humanitarian cooperation projects.

💬 International youth cooperation is one of the most important areas of foreign policy activities. A number of tasks are implemented within the programme "Next Generation, - says Sergey Vershinin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The main goal of this programme is to strengthen humanitarian cooperation between Russia and its foreign partners, as well as to give even more opportunities to young professionals for the professional skills exchange.
