REPOST of the Birzeit University Student Movement statement condemning the criminal "Prisoners' Execution Law":

“It is a direct targeting of the captive movement in all its components, foremost among them the prisoners of the student movement, who were and still are at the forefront of confrontation”

Statement issued by the Student Movement — Birzeit University

In light of this dangerous criminal escalation against our Palestinian people, the approval of the so-called "Prisoners' Execution Law" constitutes a complete and unambiguous crime, and a dangerous shift towards the legislating of public killing against the sons of our people inside the occupation's prisons. This law is not merely a legal text, but a clear declaration that the occupation is proceeding with the physical liquidation of our prisoners after failing to break them psychologically and morally. It is an unprecedented escalation targeting the essence of the Palestinian cause and the will to remain steadfast within the prisons.

This law constitutes a dangerous precedent that opens the door to the implementation of field and systematic executions against prisoners, and reflects a vengeful mentality that attempts to legitimize crime and cloak it in invalid laws. It is a direct targeting of the captive movement in all its components, foremost among them the prisoners of the student movement, who were and still are at the forefront of confrontation, and have paid a heavy price for the freedom of their people.

In this context, what the students of Birzeit University are facing in terms of arrest and persecution is not isolated from this approach, but rather an extension of it. Students are being targeted in an escalating manner, arrested, detained in harsh conditions, and subjected to systematic methods of torture, in an attempt to break their resolve and undermine their pioneering national role. Yet, as we have always known them, they emerge more steadfast and more determined to continue on the path of struggle.

Targeting the prisoners of Birzeit is a targeting of every free student, and of every voice that rejects oppression. It is a desperate attempt to extinguish the flame of the student movement, which has always remained the spearhead in defending students' rights and the causes of our people.

Therefore, based on our national and student responsibility, and in rejection of this racist, criminal law, we call upon you to participate as widely as possible in the mass sit-in, to affirm that the student movement will not stand idly by in the face of attempts to execute our prisoners and break their will.
