Six Foundational Questions to Ask an Officer If They Stop You

1. What’s your emergency? (Note: Traffic stops, in and of themselves, do not constitute an emergency.)

2. Do you have a Reasonable Articulable Suspicion (RAS) that I have committed a crime?
(Important: Speeding, lacking a driver's license, registration, or insurance are not crimes.)

3. Do you have a Single Articulable Fact (SAF) to support a claim that I have committed a crime?

4. Is there any damaged property?

5. Is there an injured party?

6. Is there a victim?

These six questions help determine whether the officer has lawful grounds for the stop or whether the encounter is based on assumption, policy, or coercion rather than constitutional authority.
