The Saints in the Sunnah
Bayhaqī relates from Thawbān from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ,
"Gladtidings to the sincere ones, they are the lamps of guidance."
Ibn Majah relate it with a weak chain and variant wording,
"God loves the righteous, pious, concealed ones. When traveling, none seek after them. When resident, they're not invited nor recognized. Their hearts are lamps of guidance. From every dark trial they emerge (unharmed and steadfast)."
al-Hākim relates this report with a variant sound chain from Mu'ādh b. Jabal
"Even a small bit of ostentation is an association of partners with God (shirk), and whoever shows enmity to the saints has challenged God to a duel."

Today was a special day and a special night.
Once again, I did not need to inquire about the name of the woman next to me, to my left. Strangely, however, it was a male name — Yahyā.
The first wārid that came to my heart was that this was an encoded message, referring to:
المرأة إن تعلّق همّتها بالله فهي رجل
A woman whose her aspiration is attached to God, is a sufi master (lit. man).
About Sayyiduna Yahyā عليه السلام God says:
يَا يَحْيَىٰ خُذِ الْكِتَابَ بِقُوَّةٍ ۖ وَآتَيْنَاهُ الْحُكْمَ صَبِيًّا
“O John, take the Scripture with strength.” And We gave him wisdom while just a boy.
Maryam (Q 19:12)
“Taking the book in strength” is a reference to himma and ‘azīma.
Yahyā is a highly positive name and carries the meanings of life, continuity (baqā’), and optimism.
Still, I was not certain of this wārid, and feared I might be projecting. I recalled God’s words :
هُوَ الَّذِي أَنزَلَ عَلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ مِنْهُ آيَاتٌ مُّحْكَمَاتٌ هُنَّ أُمُّ الْكِتَابِ وَأُخَرُ مُتَشَابِهَاتٌ ۖ فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ زَيْغٌ فَيَتَّبِعُونَ مَا تَشَابَهَ مِنْهُ ابْتِغَاءَ الْفِتْنَةِ وَابْتِغَاءَ تَأْوِيلِهِ ۗ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ تَأْوِيلَهُ إِلَّا اللَّهُ ۗ وَالرَّاسِخُونَ فِي الْعِلْمِ يَقُولُونَ آمَنَّا بِهِ كُلٌّ مِّنْ عِندِ رَبِّنَا ۗ وَمَا يَذَّكَّرُ إِلَّا أُولُو الْأَلْبَابِ
It is He who has sent down to you the Book. In it are verses that are precise—they are the foundation of the Book—and others unspecific. As for those in whose hearts is deviation, they follow what is unspecific thereof, seeking discord and seeking its interpretation. And none knows its interpretation except Allah. But those firm in knowledge say, “We believe in it. All of it is from our Lord.” And none will be reminded except those of understanding.
Āl ʿImrān (Q 3:7)
Thus, I consigned the matter to God. This is what the Sufi masters have taught us in moments of uncertainty — tafwīḍ. And every time I have applied this rule, the meaning has come to me effortlessly. By God’s Grace, that is exactly what happened this time — and swiftly.
Upon completing the prayer, I greeted the lady on my right. She is a Malaysian woman, a master’s candidate at Al-Azhar University in uṣūl al-fiqh. She has spent the past nine years in Cairo.
Internally, I was beaming. I realized that the wārid was correct. It was about himma.
Her beautiful name was Nūr ʿAzīma.
It means: The Light of Determination.
Of course, I took her contact and we because friends immediately.
الحمد لله ربّ العالمين

يَا زَكَرِيَّا إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَامٍ اسْمُهُ يَحْيَىٰ لَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُ مِن قَبْلُ سَمِيًّا
“O Zecharia, We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be Yaḥyā. We have not assigned to any before him this name.”
