We've heard so much about Karthik Subbaraj's level of admiration for Quentin Tarantino, but this is where we actually see it. From little homages, title card references, framing to the overall setting of a scene, he has unleashed this fan within him to such an extent. One of the closing scenes of Jigarthanda (2014) begins with a similar setup to that of "Butch meeting Wallace by the road" scene from Pulp Fiction (1994). Another sequence from Pulp Fiction, in which a nice and easy conversation part between two people slowly steps up into a completely badass killing scene, is something that would possibly flash across your mind while watching the opening scene of Jagame Thandhiram (2021). The kind of staging he gives and the way he places all this preconceived imagery, that too well rooted within the setting, is something highly commendable of him as a director.
