ഒരു ചെറിയ കഥയെ, മേക്കിങ് കൊണ്ടും, ടെക്നിക്കൽ സൈഡ് കൊണ്ടും മറികടക്കുക എന്നത് തന്നെയാണ് അമൽ നീരദ് എന്ന സംവിധായകൻ എന്നും ചെയ്തിട്ടുള്ളത്. അത് കൊണ്ട് തന്നെ, സുപരിചിതമായ ഒരു കഥാ പശ്ചാത്തലവും, കഥയുടെ പൊക്കുമൊക്കെ തന്നെയാണ് ഭീഷ്മയിലും. ആ കഥയെ, വളരെ എൻഗേജിങ് ആയ ഒരു തിരക്കഥയുടെയും, അസാമാന്യമായ ഒരു വിഷ്വൽ ലാങ്വെജിലൂടെയും, മികച്ചൊരു സിനിമാനുഭവമാക്കുന്നുണ്ട് അമൽ. കഥ പറച്ചിൽ രീതിയിലുള്ള ഗോഡ് ഫാദർ ടച്ച്, സിനിമയെ നല്ല രീതിയിൽ സഹായിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. അതോടൊപ്പം എടുത്തു പറയേണ്ടത് ആനന്ദിന്റെ ക്യാമറയും, വിവേകിന്റെ എഡിറ്റിംഗുമാണ്, ഓരോ ഷോട്ടുകളും, കട്ടുകളുമെല്ലാം, ഗംഭീരം. സുഷിന്റെ സ്കോറുകൾ ഓരോ സീനിന്റെയും ഗ്രാഫ് നന്നായി ഉയർത്തുന്നതായിരുന്നു, അതിഗംഭീരം.
സറ്റിൽ ആയ രീതിയിൽ, ചിത്രത്തിൽ മുന്നോട്ട് വെക്കുന്ന രാഷ്ട്രീയങ്ങൾ മികച്ചു നിന്നതായി തോന്നി. ഒരൊറ്റ സീനോ, ഷോട്ടോ, കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളോ അനാവശ്യമായിരുന്നു എന്നും തോന്നിയില്ല. എന്നാൽ ക്ലൈമാക്സ് അൽപ്പം കൂടി നന്നാക്കാമായിരുന്നു എന്ന് അനുഭവപ്പെട്ടു.
പ്രകടനങ്ങളിലേക്ക് വരുമ്പോൾ, മമ്മൂട്ടി എന്ന നടന്റെ ഒറ്റയാൾ ഷോ അല്ല ചിത്രം, അഭിമുഖങ്ങളിൽ മമ്മൂക്ക തന്നെ പറഞ്ഞത് പോലെ, ഓരോ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങൾക്കും വ്യക്തമായ സ്‌പേസ് ചിത്രത്തിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. മമ്മൂക്കയുടെ സ്ക്രീൻ പ്രെസെൻസും, പ്രകടനവും എപ്പോളത്തെയും പോലെ അസാമാന്യമായിരുന്നു. അതോടൊപ്പം തന്നെ സൗബിൻ ആണ് അക്ഷരാർത്ഥത്തിൽ ഞെട്ടിച്ച പ്രകടനം കാഴ്ച വെച്ചത്. ഷൈൻ, സുദേവ്, ഭാസി, അനഘ, ദിലീഷ് പോത്തൻ, നാദിയ മൊയ്ദു, ജിനു, ഫർഹാൻ, ലെന, മാളാ പാർവതി, നിസ്താർ തുടങ്ങി എല്ലാവരുടെയും പ്രകടനങ്ങൾ മികച്ചു നിന്നു, ഒപ്പം നെടുമുടി ചേട്ടനും, ലളിത ചേച്ചിയും.
ആകെമൊത്തം നോക്കുമ്പോൾ, ഒരു റെഗുലർ മാസ്സിനപ്പുറം, നല്ല ക്ലാസ്സായ, ഒരു തരി പോലും മടുപ്പിക്കാതെ, ആദ്യാവസാനം പ്രകമ്പനം കൊള്ളിച്ച, ഒരു അമൽ നീരദ് ഷോ ആണ് ഭീഷ്മ. എന്ത് പ്രതീക്ഷിച്ചോ, അത് കിട്ടിയ പൂർണ്ണ സംതൃപ്തിയോടെയാണ് തീയേറ്ററിൽ നിന്നിറങ്ങിയത്.
