በ፲፱፻፶፰ ዓ.ም የአፍሪካ ኢኮኖሚ ኮሚሽን የመስታወት ላይ ሥራ በመጀመሪያ ያለ ውድድር የተሰጠው ለአንድ ኢጣሊያናዊ ሠዓሊ ነበር። ይህንን የሰማው አፈወርቅ ንጉሠ ነገሥቱ ዘንድ በመቅረብ "ይህንን ሥራ ኢትዮጵያዊያን ልንሠራው ስንችል ስለምን ለአውሮፓዊ ተሰጠ?" በማለት ጠየቀ።
ንጉሡም አርክቴክቱን አስጠርተው ይህ ለምን እንደተደረገ ጠየቁት። "ምክንያቱም በአፍሪካ ምድር ይህንን ሊሠራ የሚችል ሥነ ጥበበኛ ስለሌለ ነው።" በማለት መለሰ።
ግርማዊነታቸውም ወደ አፈወርቅ መለስ ብለው
"ይኼንን ሥራ መሥራት እንደምትችል እርግጠኛ ነህ?" በማለት ጠየቁት። "አዎን ጃንሆይ እችላለሁ! የተማርኩት'ኮ ይኼንኑ ነው" አለ።
እዚህ ላይ አርክቴክቱ ሌላ መከራከሪያ አመጣ።
"ህንጻው ለመጠናቀቅ የቀረው ስድስት ወር ብቻ ነው። ጊዜ የለንም አለ" ንጉሡ አሁንም ወደአፈወርቅ ዘወር ብለው በጥያቄ ዓይን ተመለከቱት። "ስድስት ወር ከበቂ በላይ ነው" በማለት መለሰ ፤ አፈወርቅ።
እናም እዚያው ንጉሡ ወሠኑ። ለሥራው በይፋ ውድድር ብቁ የሆነው እንዲመረጥና ግብዣውም በመላ አፍሪካ ለሚገኙ ሥነ ጥበባውያን እንዲደረግ ተወሠነ። ውድድሩንም አፈወርቅ ተክሌ ከ፲፯ቱ የውድድሩ ዳኞች የ፲፬ቱን ድምፅ በማግኘት አሸነፈ።
የትናንትን የአፍሪካ መከራ ፣ የዛሬን ትግል እና የነገን ተስፋ የሚያሳየውን ድንቅ ሥራም ሠራ። በገለፃው ወቅቱን ለማሳየት በማሰብ "አንተ" ተባሉ እንጂ በተሰጣቸው ሥፍር እድሜ የሠሩት ሥራ "አንቱ" የሚለው ቃልም አሟልቶ አይገልጣቸውም።
