How to Obtain/Renew a Medical Insurance
Dear students,
according to the Federal Law of the Russian Federation No. 115-ФЗ of July 25, 2002 (as amended on July 31, 2025, with changes and additions coming into force on September 1, 2026), foreign citizens staying in Russia are required to obtain and renew medical insurance.
The International Students Office (E745, Mon-Fri 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM, break from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM) can answer all your questions regarding the terms and conditions for obtaining and renewing a medical insurance.
⭐️ Recommendations
You will greatly assist the Office staff if you bring with you a copy of your passport's main page and your valid visa/migration card.
— Be sure to check the validity period of your medical insurance! It is indicated in the document.
— If the expiry date is within two weeks, it's the perfect time to visit the Office E745 and renew your insurance.
📄 Please be advised that a valid medical insurance is a mandatory requirement for visa extension.

During your studies, you may require a document confirming your student status, a certificate of return from academic leave, and/or a referral for studies from the Ministry of Higher Education of the Russian Federation. Regarding obtaining the necessary documents, you can always contact the International Student Office in person (office E745, Mon-Fri from 9:00 to 18:00, break from 13:00 to 14:00).
You will greatly assist the Office staff if you bring a prepared copy of the first page of your passport and a copy of your valid visa/migration card.
