The DRDO and the Indian Navy successfully conducted the maiden salvo launch of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile–Short Range (NASM-SR).

🚀 Key Details of the Launch:

📍 Location: Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha in the Bay of Bengal.

🚁 Platform: Indian Navy’s Sea King Mk 42B helicopter.

🎯 Salvo Achievement: Two missiles were fired in quick succession from the same helicopter, successfully hitting targets at the waterline with high precision.

🛰️ Indigenous Technology: Defence Research and Development Organisation’s NASM-SR is India’s first indigenously developed air-launched anti-ship missile system.

Major Highlights for Odisha:

• Highest Violent Crime Rate: Odisha recorded the highest violent crime rate in India with 161.6 victims per lakh population. It reported a total of 75,403 violent crime cases, ranking fourth in absolute numbers nationwide.

• Sexual Harassment in Public: The state recorded the highest number of sexual harassment cases in public places (549 incidents), significantly higher than Uttar Pradesh (198 cases).

• Crimes Against Women: Odisha ranked second nationally in the rate of crimes against women, with 118.3 cases per lakh women, after Telangana with 128.6 cases per lakh women. Registered cases rose from 25,914 in 2023 to 27,449 in 2024.

• Missing Children: A total of 6,223 children went missing in 2024, with girls accounting for approximately 87% of these cases.
🚀 National Technology Day – 11 May

🇮🇳 Significance:
It commemorates the anniversary of the Pokhran-II nuclear tests (Operation Shakti) conducted on 11 May 1998 under the leadership of PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

🛰️ Historical Milestone:
On this same day, India successfully test-fired the Trishul missile from ITR Chandipur, Odisha and flew the indigenous aircraft Hansa-3.

🦠 Core Fact: The virus is transmitted exclusively through the bite of an infected female Aedes aegypti mosquito, which is a daytime biter.
