πŸ™πŸŒ†πŸŒ‰ Talking about cities is an important part of IELTS Speaking.

Here are some essential collocations, with examples, to help you talk more confidently about your hometown, the city where you live, or even a city you have visited.

Enjoy and remember to practice!

πŸ’ mild climate (=neither hot nor cold) / tropical climate (=hot) / humid climate(=wet)

My city has a mild climate all year round, so it's really comfortable even in summer.

πŸ’ tourist attractions

There are a multitude of tourist attractions, but the most popular by far is the Taj Mahal

πŸ’ job opportunities

I live in a big city and most people are attracted to this city because it offers ample (=plenty of) job opportunities

πŸ’ high cost of living

The downside of my city is the extremely high cost of living, even renting a flat costs an arm and a leg (= a lot)

πŸ’ the standard of living

I prefer to live in the city rather than the countryside, because the standard of living is much higher  there

πŸ’ reliable public transport

The good thing about the city where I live is that there is reliable public transport which makes getting around so convenient.

πŸ’ entertainment facilities

The entertainment facilities in my city are top-notch, there are loads of theatres and cinemas, as well as some world-class restaurants
