π‘ What is Slippage and why does it matter on DEXs?
On decentralized exchanges (DEXs) like QuickSwap, asset prices are not staticβthey change in real-time. βSlippageβ refers to the difference between the price at the moment you submit your order and the price at the moment your transaction is finally executed. When you place a trade, you are essentially setting a tolerance level for how much price movement you are willing to accept to ensure the trade goes through.
πΉ Why does the price change during a trade?
Trade Volume: If your order size is large relative to the liquidity available in the pool, your buy or sell order will directly cause price movement.
On-Chain Volatility: In the time interval between clicking βSwapβ and the transaction being confirmed on the blockchain, other transactions may occur, causing the price to shift.
πΉ Managing Slippage in the ETERNITY Ecosystem:
In our dedicated DApp, the default slippage rate is set to 5%. However, when buying or selling in large volumes, your transaction might fail due to price volatility.
If you encounter a transaction failure, you have two simple solutions:
Split your order: Reduce the requested volume and execute the trade in several smaller transactions.
Manual adjustment on QuickSwap: Go directly to the QuickSwap exchange and manually set the slippage percentage in the settings (slightly above 5%) to ensure your transaction is processed successfully.
β οΈ Security Note: Only increase slippage to the level necessary for your transaction. Setting unnecessarily high slippage values exposes you to the risk of βSandwich Attacksβ by MEV bots, which can lead to unwanted losses.
Summary:
Slippage = The maximum price tolerance you allow to ensure your trade succeeds.
