i read this around a decade ago. didn’t think much of it at the time. but in context of what i work on, there are a few points.

i dont think tooze latched properly on to the clearing mechanism. and i also think that some of his comments are written with 20/20 hindsight. but some aspects discussed are useful.

the nazis, in essence, implemented an economic governance system which was invented by a jew. no fucking wonder they went to the extent they did to wipe him from history.

and jewish historians are in no hurry to dig him up, because, well, it might lead to problems.

… ok… this is pretty messed up. This is the 1932 Volta Congress, attended by Rosenberg and Schacht.

the 1942 document genuinely is explosive.

the interwar period and the nazi era, in essence, appears to have been fought over financial control of europe.

it’s what everyone is busy telling you is conspiracy. except, it appears fairly strongly supported by these documents.

wasnt expecting it to agree here, but there you go.

i recall sitting in history lessons, being told what in retrospect was - at best - incomplete history and thinking ‘there’s something not quite right here’. couldn’t place my finger on it, but then, it’s difficult when you’re a teenager and you still have a hell of a lot to learn.

i also recall being told by an invited speaker that the american civil war being fundamentally an economic matter, with the liberals all groaning, parroting the ‘it was about slavery line’ exclusively, refusing to entertain the gaps in the historical record - lincoln never really addressed emancipation until iirc 1863.
