ok there’s no shortage of material in this book. yeah, this book is ‘sold’ on an inverted pretense.
ok, reading a few parts here and there, what i think she’s essentially doing is classical inversion
she’s pointing to big tech, saying ‘look those organisations are doing x, we must take charge of x’
except, of course, those tech companies are NOT united, and they CAN be challenged through competition - but Zuboff wants to monopolise it under some alleged state authority, which promises to ‘represent everyone’
in other words, she fundamentally misrepresents the private sector in order to justify creating the information clearinghouse

the inversion Zuboff proposes will establish the monopoly she falsely claims exists under private control.
she’s a fraud.
she’s a fraud.

find the ‘book’ over here.
if you like it, i can recommend ‘the committee of 300’ which is about as legit.

the trick wrt the committee of 300 is about shredding metadata.
literally everything ever is because of ‘the committee of 300’.
it’s an exercise in eliminating metadata so you cannot trace events correctly.
that said, some events are true. but there’s a lot of horse manure in there as well.

accuse your opponent of monopoly power -> use that accusation to justify creating actual monopoly power -> dress the new monopoly in democratic legitimacy language -> achieve the centralisation you accused them of
thats Zuboff’s move in the book, ‘Surveillance Capitalism’ - which completely fails to point the finger at the central bank empire.
i know, i know - do try to appear as shocked as i.

Most people think enforced laws are national.

Zuboff, a harvard professor, writes hundreds of pages about surveillance, power, and the threat to democracy — invoking polanyi, arendt, durkheim, the new deal — and never once mentions the BIS.
she names Google's chief economist, but she doesn't name the Bank for International Settlements
she celebrates the Spanish Data Protection Agency ordering Google to de-link search results, but she doesn't mention that FATF can exclude entire nations from the global financial system through grey-listing
she calls for new public institutions to govern information, yet the public institutions that already govern financial information globally, without democratic accountability — she cannot see
shocked! absolutely shocked!

re-reading this suddenly snaps me to Dan Shefet
(setting aside the overly dramatic and emotional framing)

if Zuboff’s concern were actually surveillance and control, central bank digital currencies would be chapter one
but… she’s never criticised CBDCs.
golly, it’s another one of them coincidences

her book was published in 2019, and she hasn’t uttered a word on CBDCs, neither in that book, nor since then.
what an extraordinary coincidence!
