Zuboff (the age of surveillance capitalism) wants to tame the private system by embedding it in a steering framework legitimised by thr public

and that requires a clearinghouse to negotiate between public and private... yeah i see where this is going.

ok, reading a few parts here and there, what i think she’s essentially doing is classical inversion

she’s pointing to big tech, saying ‘look those organisations are doing x, we must take charge of x’

except, of course, those tech companies are NOT united, and they CAN be challenged through competition - but Zuboff wants to monopolise it under some alleged state authority, which promises to ‘represent everyone’

in other words, she fundamentally misrepresents the private sector in order to justify creating the information clearinghouse

the inversion Zuboff proposes will establish the monopoly she falsely claims exists under private control.
