After #StanfordUniversity put out its language guide, the university immediately became the object of attack and ridicule.

But, it appears that Stanford is now walking back the placement of the word “#American“ on its language guide, which lists words and expressions the university says one should avoid.

It appears that #StanfordUniversity is walking back the placement of the word “#American“ on its language guide, which lists words and expressions the university says one should avoid.

The guide is 13-pages long and is called the “Elimination of Harmful Language.” Under a section called “Imprecise Language,” the guide suggests replacing the term “American” with “U.S. citizen.”
