How Polygon plan to generate revenue from AggLayer? Insight from the podcast!

"For us, the AggLayer is a decentralized service that will be operated by Polygon token and stakers. There is a value accrual mechanism, but I just think that the margins will be thin.

If you look at the entire GDP of where we want the Polygon ecosystem to be, when the AggLayer really goes live, I would say that we have between 5 and 10 billion of TVL that will just immediately bridge and onboard onto that ecosystem. And I would expect that we see a ton of momentum in increasing that very, very quickly.

So if we think about two years from now, what the entire GDP of the Polygon ecosystem will be, it will be gigantic. And the amount that's captured at the AggLayer will be very small. And so our goal is to build foundational infrastructure, build the ecosystem, but it's not to maximize the amount of that ecosystem or the sort of the GDP that we are capturing as Polygon".

AggLayer for people who slept on it

🤔What is Agglayer
It’s a decentralized protocol from Polygon that aggregates ZK proofs from all connected chains and ensures safety for near-instant cross-chain transactions. Basically, you can buy non-fungible tokens on a connected different chain without having to bridge

🤘Why is it cool?
1️⃣For L1 and L2s: allows to tap into a huge pool of unified liquidity, making it easy to bootstrap liquidity.
2️⃣For dApp developers: users from aggregated chains can interact with the dApp without bridging.
3️⃣‍For end users: aggregation makes it more Internet-like, a single environment that doesn’t require frequent bridging and ultimately enables chain abstraction.

🔮What’s the future of it?
Onboarding more chains! The more chains they have, the easier it is to use Web3 in general.

🏆Like Brendan Farmer said: “It’s a win-win situation. You get to tap into existing liquidity and users and you don’t give anything up”.

"Why, What, and How L2s Can Use Blob Transactions"

Keynote from Mikhail Kirov, researcher at LimeChain

🤔Why:
Ethereum is suffering from its own success - transaction fees are high. The current leading approach to fighting it is Rollups for scalability.

Rollups, however, are facing some issues with high operating costs and in particular costs for publishing their bundled transactions to the L1 for data availability

They want to keep their costs low and at the same time keep their systems secure and decentralized

Many popular rollups pay tens of millions of dollars every year with the total being well over 200 million dollars.

😱What:
Blob transactions, introduced through the concept of Protodunk Sharding or EIP-4844, play a crucial role in the Ethereum scaling roadmap. They are a new type of transaction that carries uninterpreted data payloads, termed as "blob sidecars".

These transactions are crucial for lowering data availability costs for rollups by providing a more efficient way to store large data payloads on the Ethereum network.

This solution leverages KZG commitments and a new precompile for KZG verification, secured by Ethereum's L1 consensus mechanism, to verify the data without processing it within the EVM.

🤓How:
Danksharding separates the current execution gas from the newly introduced Blob gas, effectively giving us new cheaper gas for Blobs, creating a potentially cheaper gas market for uninterpreted data intended for rollup use.

This new structure includes several technical enhancements such as versioned hashes for future compatibility, a new blob hash opcode, and a point precompile for validating the data.

For rollups and their users, this means significantly reduced transaction costs and data availability costs.

Rollups will need to undergo an upgrade to accommodate these changes, but this upgrade is designed to be a one-time requirement due to the common interfaces established for future Ethereum scaling efforts.
