EIS junior secondary students in Year 8 and Year 9 attended the final round of the Mathematics Olympiad on Tuesday afternoon. The first round took place at EIS and the top five students were selected from our junior group. Boris, Ha Neul, Vika, Oskars and Ricards participated in the final round. Mr Wycliffe was one of the five judges who were tasked with marking the tasks from all schools. The competition lasted for three hours and we competed against other international schools. The first three rounds were group rounds and they lasted 10 minutes per round. After those three rounds our school was leading in first place. Next up there was a 45 minute individual round, where students had to complete 7 problem solving questions on their own. The final two rounds were group rounds with very challenging tasks. EIS students would have liked to win the competition, however, our students were placed second and are very proud of the commitment and teamwork shown by our students.
On Wednesday EIS Year 11-12 students took part in the International Mathematics Olympiad. The task were very challenging, the students participated in both group contests and individual ones. The groups from other school were really competitive, but still our mathematicians managed really well and got the 3rd place! Well done indeed!
Last Sunday some of EIS’s students and staff travelled to Sokolniki to participate in a football competition between both international and local Russian schools.
EIS students played extremely well in all their matches, especially considering it was their first time of playing together. They were comprised of a mixed team ranging from Year 8 to Year 12. EIS students finished in fourth place and should be very proud of their efforts.
In similar fashion to the students, the teachers’ team lacked experience of playing together but did manage to create chances and score goals. Overall the teachers finished in fourth place after narrowly losing to a local Russian team, but yet again the teachers should be proud of their commitment and efforts.
It was a great day out for EIS teachers, students and the parents who came to watch. The support from everybody who travelled to Sokolniki was brilliant and we very much look forward to participating in future tournaments.⚽️⚽️⚽️

“This has been one of our most successful Duke of Edinburgh Awards to date. Everyone has worked hard, pulled together and created a wonderful atmosphere for not only the students, but the staff as well. I couldn't be prouder of the groups we had this year and I was constantly impressed by the determination and hard work of the students. Our Adventurous Journey has been my favourite so far and it was an incredible experience for everyone. I am honoured to become part of the ‘Tick Club’ although I still maintain our poses looked more like a crab. Throughout the 24 hours, 52 km, epic UNO battles, dance competitions and a few burnt marshmallows - it has been an incredible journey for all of us and our most successful. Thank you to all who made this possible.” By Mr Chris Marsh – Co-Award Leader and Head of Primary
“The cooking of the food was great and eating outside was very enjoyable. This is the first time I ever had roasted marshmallows! The teamwork was excellent and Emils was a great navigator with his map reading. His timing was also very impressive. I enjoyed the second day more, mainly because of the faster pace and less map work. This was my first DofE trip and I would like to do it again!”
