Ecosocialism: A Vital Synthesis
Abstract : The capitalist system, driven at its core by the maximization of profit, regardless of social and ecological costs, is incompatible with a just and sustainable future. Ecosocialism offers a radical alternative that puts social and ecological well-being first. Attuned to the links between the exploitation of labor and the exploitation of the environment, ecosocialism stands against both reformist “market ecology” and “productivist socialism.” By embracing a new model of robustly democratic planning, society can take control of the means of production and its own destiny. Shorter work hours and a focus on authentic needs over consumerism can facilitate the elevation of “being” over “having,” and the achievement of a deeper sense of freedom for all. To realize this vision, however, environmentalists and socialists will need to recognize their common struggle and how that connects with the broader “movement of movements” seeking a Great Transition.

💚️ National ecosocialist meeting ❤️
HERE, you will find an invitation for our first ecosocialist meeting this Saturday 3rd of July. Everyone is welcome to join! It’s open to each person who recognizes themselves in a radical ecology, or even has doubts about the ability of the system to solve the ecological crisis and thinks that ecological issues should be treated along with social issues. It doesn’t matter if you haven't heard of the concept of ecosocialism yet or if you already wrote texts about it. The objective is to unite our forces and create a network of ecosocialist people in Switzerland, so we could exchange and organize.
👉️️️ This first big meeting will be the place to discuss and decide how we want to create a national ecosocialist network and what our common values are. In a second part of the meeting we will be there to discuss concretely how we want to take action around COP 26. This could involve an ecosocialist counter-summit just before COP 26, but other ideas are very welcome. After the meeting there will be the possibility to join an apero and have an informal exchange with all the lovely people joining the meeting.

C'est ouvert à chaque personne qui se reconnaît dans une écologie radicale, ou même qui a des doutes sur la capacité du système à résoudre la catastrophe écologique et qui pense que les questions écologiques doivent être traitées avec les questions sociales. Peu importe que vous n'ayez pas encore entendu parler du concept d'écosocialisme ou que vous ayez déjà écrit des textes à ce sujet. L'objectif est d'unir nos forces et de créer un réseau d'écosocialistes en Suisse, afin que nous puissions échanger et nous organiser.
👉️️️️ Cette première grande réunion sera le lieu pour discuter et décider comment nous voulons créer un réseau écosocialiste national et quelles sont nos valeurs communes. Dans une deuxième partie de la réunion, nous serons là pour discuter concrètement de la manière dont nous voulons agir autour de la COP 26. Cela pourrait impliquer un contre-sommet écosocialiste juste avant la COP 26, mais d'autres idées sont les bienvenues. Après la réunion, il y aura la possibilité de rejoindre un apéritif et d'avoir un échange informel avec toutes les personnes qui se joindront à la réunion.

Es ist offen für jede Person, die sich in einer radikalen Ökologie wiedererkennt, oder auch nur Zweifel an der Fähigkeit des Systems hat, die ökologische Krise zu lösen und denkt, dass ökologische Fragen zusammen mit sozialen Fragen angegangen werden müssen. Es spielt keine Rolle, ob du von dem Konzept von Ökosozialismus noch nichts gehört hast oder ob du bereits Texte darüber geschrieben hast. Das Ziel ist es, unsere Kräfte zu bündeln und ein Netzwerk von ökosozialistischen Menschen in der Schweiz zu schaffen, damit wir uns austauschen und organisieren können.
👉️️ Dieses erste große Treffen wird der Ort sein, um zu diskutieren und zu entscheiden, wie wir ein nationales ökosozialistisches Netzwerk schaffen wollen und was unsere gemeinsamen Werte sind. In einem zweiten Teil des Treffens wird es darum gehen, konkret zu diskutieren, wie wir rund um die COP 26 aktiv werden wollen. Das könnte ein ökosozialistischer Gegengipfel kurz vor der COP 26 sein, aber auch andere Ideen sind sehr willkommen. Nach dem Treffen wird es die Möglichkeit geben, bei einem Apero einen informellen Austausch mit all den netten Leuten zu haben, die an dem Treffen teilnehmen.

When the Green New Deal is discussed, it is often by politicians and activists in the Global North, many of whom fail to adequately engage with the role of imperialism and capitalism in climate breakdown.
So what does a People’s Green New Deal look like? How do we fight for a Green New Deal that undoes the damage imperialism and colonialism has inflicted on the Global South?
To start the discussion we will be joined by Max Ajl, author of A People’s Green New Deal. Ajl is an associated researcher with the Tunisian Observatory for Food Sovereignty and the Environment and a postdoctoral fellow with the Rural Sociology Group at Wageningen University. He has written for Monthly Review, Jacobin and Viewpoint (and much more here : https://fb.me/e/144dCowrr).

Summary : At the time of writing (17 July), the terrible floods in Belgium, parts of Germany and the Netherlands have killed more than 100 people. Tens of thousands of people have been displaced, have lost everything and will remain traumatised forever. Others were not even that “lucky”, unfortunately, and the large number of missing persons (1300 in Germany) leaves no doubt that the final toll will be much, much higher. The material damage is immense, not to mention the impact in terms of water and soil pollution (by hydrocarbons, heavy metals, PCBs, plastics, sewage, etc.).

Summary : “We also have to seriously consider which bits of green capital do we make alliances with, because I don’t think I see the social forces being arranged that we can simply wash our hands of that messy engagement.” With that provocative question John Barry of the Just Transition Greens set the cat among the pigeons on an episode of the Trademark podcast on ‘Why Greenwashing won’t wash’. Those serious about fighting climate change and capitalism, he argued, must consider whether we can form alliances with some of the ‘greener’ big businesses, renewable energy companies and the like to achieve our aims. He went on to argue that this is an important strategic debate we cannot shy away from, even if it is ‘as welcome as a fart in a space suit’.

Wir freuen uns, euch zu unserem nächsten Treffen einzuladen, welches am Abend des 20. Septembers von 18:00-20:30 Uhr online stattfinden wird, einzuladen.
Das Treffen wird sich um die Organisation eines Gegengipfels zu der COP26 in der Schweiz drehen. Wir wollen einen offenen Raum für alle schaffen, welche gerne solch einen Gegengipfel organisieren möchten, um uns über unsere Ideen auszutauschen und eine klarere Vision für die Form dieses Gegengipfels zu schaffen. Gemeinsam können wir mit diesem Gegengipfel uns rund um eine Ökosozialistische Perspektive organisieren und das Konzept dessen in die Gesellschaft tragen. ❗️Summary message of our meeting ❗️
In our Meeting today we decided to organize against the COP26 around the international action days of the 6th and 7th of November. Following this, we decided on the broad form of action for these days. The next big meeting to coordinate the two dates will take place Mid October. Here you find our coordination chat
👉 On the 6th of November, we will organize a national Demo against the COP26 in Berne. This Demonstration should take place in the afternoon and should be focused around a rather positive narrative to bring the idea of ecosocialism into society. The planing of the demonstration and all around it will happen in this following chat, there will be a meeting soon and we need all of you 🔥
👉 On the 7th of November we want to organize a gathering that also will take place in Berne. This gathering will be public, but also has the goal to connect individuals that are already active in radical left organisations/movements to build a basis for a future cooperative work. The day will probably consist out of two parts, one being inputs about ecosocialism and topics connected to it and the other being open discussions to different topics. We want to get together, meet each other and find a path to our common future ecosocialist activism.
For preparing the 7th of November please join the following chat. We will already meet the next time on the 28th of September at 8pm to discuss the broad program 🤗

In unserem Meeting haben sir entschieden uns an den internationalen Aktionstagen am 6. und 7. November gegen die COP26 zu organisieren. So haben wir basierend auf dem uns auf eine grobe Aktionsform für diese zwei Tage entschieden. Unser nächstes Treffen, um diese beiden Tage zu koordinieren, wird Mitte Oktober stattfinden. Hier findet ihr den Chat unserer Koordinations-Gruppe.
👉 Am 6. November werden wir eine nationale Demo gegen die COP26 in Bern organisieren. Die Demonstration soll am Nachmittag stattfinden und sollte sich auf eine eher positives Narrativ fokussieren, um ökosozialistische Inhalte in die Gesellschaft zu bringen. Die Planung der Demo und alles drum herum wird in diesem Chat passieren. Es wird bald ein Treffen geben und dafür brauchen wir euch alle! 🔥

Lors de notre réunion d'hier, nous avons décidé de nous organiser contre la COP26 autour des journées d'action internationales des 6 et 7 novembre. Suite à cela, nous avons décidé de la forme générale de l'action pour ces journées. La prochaine grande réunion pour coordonner les deux dates aura lieu à la mi-octobre. 👉 Le samedi 6 novembre, nous organiserons une manifestation nationale contre la COP26 à Berne. Cette manifestation devrait avoir lieu dans l'après-midi et devrait être axée autour d'un récit plutôt positif pour amener l'idée de l'écosocialisme dans la société. La planification de la manifestation et tout ce qui l'entoure se fera dans le chat suivant. Il y aura une réunion bientôt et nous avons besoin de tous le monde 🔥
👉 Le dimanche 7 novembre, nous voulons organiser un rassemblement qui aura également lieu à Berne.
