I heard someone say yesterday that children need to be scared of you so they can respect you and that made me sad.
Authoritarian leadership does not work to gain respect. It may help to gain obedience, but certainly not respect. Respect is gained when someone has enough trust to be their true self knowing they won’t be judged or criticized but rather given grace, guidance and unconditional love.
