Child-led walks are an easy and fun Montessori activity for our little ones. No destination, no expectations! It is a fun way for our little ones to go at the child’s speed and explore their interests. I’m very grateful to do this with my youngest daughter because she finally started walking at 19 months(recently)! πŸ₯°

Is inevitable that young siblings will fight over toys.  A very natural response would be to step in and try to rescue the situation by saying something like this …

➑️Why don’t you go first and then the other one can go?
➑️Why are you always picking on your sister?

When we step in like this, have you considered that we might make things worse?  It’s possible that we escalate our children’s negative emotions because they could be interpreting our actions as taking sides.Of course if there’s serious hitting going on, we should step in to make sure our kids are separated and safe.
Instead, consider staying neutral and simply state the situation and then do NOTHING.  This helps frame the situation for our little ones and gives them an opportunity to arrive at a solution themselves.

For example, if my two daughters are fighting over playing with the ball set, I would simply say …

πŸ”…β€œI see what’s going on, both of you want to play with the ball set, what should we do?”

Then I would take pause and let them proceed on how to resolve the situation.

This doesn’t work 100% of the time but to my initial surprise, there are many times when they end up taking turns or finding ways to play together.
