She wasn’t a child I saw on the other side of the planet. She was a few miles from my house in a hotel lobby booking a room while her trafficker waited outside.

She was a teenager with no purse, wallet, rollerbag, or phone. Just a credit card she handed to the clerk. Then she shuffled back to her trafficker who drove her around the corner to the room she just booked.

Where she waited for her clients.

Why didn’t I stop her? She was so bonded to her trafficker that he trusted her to go into the lobby and shuffle right back to him. She certainly wouldn’t go with me if I asked. She would have attacked me.

Instead the team I was with gave his tag number and her photo to the LEOs we were working with.

We reported the desk clerk too.

Someone once accused me of begging for help for trafficked kids. When girls with blue bedroom slippers are inside your heart, you’d beg, too.
