An archeologist holds a plaster cast of a child who died during the eruption at Pompeii
The child was found in its mother's lap when they died. It is believed the child was just 4 years old. Pompeii was a Roman town which was wiped off the map in 79 AD, when the volcano, Mount Vesuvius violently erupted, resulting in the city being buried in ash.
Most people died from asphyxiation or the intense heat rather than magma or volcano bombs.
