It took me four minutes to check one of my morning students' Task 1 report

If there are around 50 reports, that is about 200 minutes. But it is rewarding to see a student apply the things they learned in the lesson (notice the sentences where she did a good job). Most students keep doing the same things you learnt before from elsewhere.

It is more difficult to un-learn for many people than learn new things.
Some people think that good teamwork makes a company successful, others think that good leadership is the reason behind the success of a company.
Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

I believe most students get this type of question wrong. As you can see in the teamwork paragraph, the student described what teamwork is, instead of making the case for why it is the most important factor. Plus, the way the paragraph is developed leaves a lot to be desired.

Do you see what I mean?
What happens if you write one paragraph writing about things the question didn't ask for?

Today, as part of the Reading course, we did a passage 3 in which questions are based on a book review article.

These types of Passages are quite common, so please read such reviews from Guardian culture or New Scientist culture.

example #1

❗️ If you couldn't join the ongoing marathon, I will start a new one in mid-November.

This is Paul Graham's latest short essay. You see when you write to persuade others or share your views, you do exactly the opposite of what you do for IELTS Writing: write verbose, pompous words that essentially mean nothing.

There is not a single word that is C1

edit: actually, there are words like concede, gracefully, crook, or policy that a lower level English learner might not know. But you get the point.
1️⃣ There is no any

This is one of the most common mistakes I hear students make. They say something along the lines of "There is no any food left", but this is incorrect. There are two ways to correct it:
1 There is no food left
2 There is not any food left.

2️⃣ go to somewhere

Words like ‘somewhere,’ ‘anywhere,’ and ‘everywhere’ do not need a preposition when used with verbs like ‘go’ or ‘come.’ These words act as adverbs of place, indicating where the action is happening. For example, we say ‘go somewhere’ or ‘come anywhere,’ without adding a preposition.

3️⃣ hotel

This is one of those words candidates pronounce with an Uzbek "O". The correct pronunciation is /hoʊˈtel/

4️⃣ advices

Advice is one of the uncountable nouns that even native speakers sometimes mistakenly use in the plural. More such words are feedback, access, information, homework, equipment and furniture.

Your daughter wants to study English at a language school in the town of Weymouth next year.
Write a letter to the school. In your letter

● ask for information about the courses
● explain that your daughter is interested in social events
● find out what accommodation is available

Dear Sir / Madam,
I am writing to enquire about the English courses offered at your school as I am hoping / planning to send my daughter Mary to England for a month this summer.

I would be grateful if you could forward me the details of levels, times and costs of the courses you offer. If possible, I would like Mary to study for at least 3 hours a day and be in a class of mixed nationalities. Also, I was wondering if the school organises social activities? I am sure that Mary
would benefit from exploring the city and getting to know the other students.

Finally, would it be possible to send me information about the accommodation you have available? Ideally, I would like Mary to stay with a host family so that she can practise her English. I understand that these spaces are usually limited, but I feel very strongly that this should be part of her study experience.

I look forward to hearing from you soon, and thank you in advance for your help,

Yours faithfully,
Bob Masters

What type of letter is this and what score would it get?

Shahrizoda never skipped a day of Ulugbek’s Intensive group, staying after classes to do her homework. While we were expecting higher scores for Listening and Reading, she must have got the exam jitters – she was scoring 7.5 in each towards the end of the course. But her speaking... It's next level!

Feruzaxon studied in Ulugbek’s IELTS Standard course for about 2 months this summer, where we mostly focused on writing and speaking. Sure enough she did an amazing job in these components. She will be retaking the reading section, as we were hoping for something higher.
