Most people living now have never
Seen the river overhead
The lights we leave on all night long
Have washed it out instead
But some of us have done the dark
The long stretch, the unlit
And somewhere past the half hour mark
The sky made sense of it
If everything's gone faint on you
And you fear you're going blind
Hold on: that's not the lights going out
That's your eyes learning to find
It takes half an hour of darkness
To see all of the stars
The ones who've stayed the longest
Can read the faintest scars
One day you'll walk in lit-up rooms
With midnight in your eyes
And you will spot the hurting ones
That daylight never finds
It takes half an hour of darkness
To see all of the stars
The ones who've stayed the longest
Can read the faintest scars
Seen the river overhead
The lights we leave on all night long
Have washed it out instead
But some of us have done the dark
The long stretch, the unlit
And somewhere past the half hour mark
The sky made sense of it
If everything's gone faint on you
And you fear you're going blind
Hold on: that's not the lights going out

It takes half an hour of darkness

The songs that warmed a thousand rooms
Were written in a cold one
Whatever's warming you tonight
Began where there was no sun
Were written in a cold one
Whatever's warming you tonight
Began where there was no sun

i think one of the failures of that storybook was …it wasnt a storybook anymore. i need to go back and write the story first and …make sure it stays a story and doesnt become an enterprise-IT document

me being nerdy in the lyrics:
My father showed me, years ago
Out on the harbor wall:
"That sun you see just rising, girl,
Is not yet up at all"
"The air," he said, "leans over the edge
And lifts the light to you
A few free minutes, morning and night
That geometry never knew"
So every day you've ever lived
Ran minutes past its due
The air was slipping extra light
To me, and love, to you
I'm seventy-nine this autumn
I did the sums one night:
The air has slipped me, all my life,
Whole months of extra light
So when the young ones grumble
That the days are short and small
I walk them out at sunset
To my father's harbor wall
My father showed me, years ago
Out on the harbor wall:
"That sun you see just rising, girl,
Is not yet up at all"
"The air," he said, "leans over the edge
And lifts the light to you
A few free minutes, morning and night
That geometry never knew"
So every day you've ever lived
Ran minutes past its due
The air was slipping extra light
To me, and love, to you
I'm seventy-nine this autumn
I did the sums one night:
The air has slipped me, all my life,
Whole months of extra light
So when the young ones grumble
That the days are short and small
I walk them out at sunset
To my father's harbor wall

decided the story i wanted to tell is way too long for a single video so…its actually gonna be a short movie and not just one song. still fighting with the beginning however, so wont stay like this, but maybe you like that little rough preview :)
