Depot v2026.7.18

New

• Add Folder in the toolbar — the button that adds a source folder now lives in the toolbar next to the other controls instead of taking up a permanent section at the bottom of the sidebar, leaving more room for the folder tree.
• Search in the toolbar — the search field moved into the toolbar, freeing the strip it used to occupy for more file rows. The result counter is now always visible and reflects the current selection, which also changes with the toolbar filters.
• Active sample path in the status bar — the status bar now shows the folder the selected sample plays from, so you no longer need Reveal or the source tree to find it. The path stays visible while paused and after Stop, and the file name is always shown in full (the path is truncated from the left).

Changes

• Toolbar filters are now pinned to the left of the central zone instead of being centred, sitting next to the file list when the sidebar is open.
• The toolbar's left zone (density toggle + Add Folder) now spans exactly the sidebar width and animates in sync with it, so its right edge lines up with the sidebar/file-list border.
• The search field now has a fixed width and is pinned to the right, before the panel toggles, instead of stretching to fill the toolbar.
• Removed waveform zoom from the player. The player is a listening tool, not an editor: zoom cluttered the transport bar and conflicted with wheel scrolling over the waveform.

Fixes

• On a narrow window the search field no longer shrinks to nothing and slides under the panel toggles.
• The active file's path in the status bar no longer collapses to zero when Total, Filtered, and Selected stats are shown at the same time — the icon and the tail of the file name stay visible.

• About panel — click the version number in the status bar to open an About popover with the app info.
• Cleaner first launch — on a fresh library the player and inspector start hidden, so you see just the file list and a getting-started hint until you add your first folder.

Fixes

• The search result counter is now hidden while the search field is empty.

New

• Interface hints — hovering a control brings up a plaque with a short title and a couple of sentences explaining not what the button is, but why you would need it and when.
• Hints are available on the key controls: Add Folder, list density, filters and search, panel toggles, the source-tree mode and the sidebar quick filters, playback modes, favourites and category, collection stats, window modes, and settings.
• The plaque goes away when the pointer leaves the control, on a mouse click or key press, on scrolling, and when the window loses focus.

Changes

• The settings panel has a new Interface hints option. Hints are on by default; with the option off, every control keeps its usual system tooltip — nothing is hidden or replaced.

Depot v2026.8.8

New

• Custom tags — give each sample any number of free-form labels for instruments, moods, projects, or any other way you organize your library.
• Tags are shown as chips in the new Tags column, with overflow collapsed into a `+N` counter; the Inspector shows the complete tag list.
• Open the tag picker by double-clicking anywhere in a Tags cell or from the file context menu. It works with multi-selection, so tags can be added to or removed from many files at once.
• Enter several tags together using spaces, commas, or semicolons. Leading `#` characters are removed automatically, making pasted hashtag lists ready to use.
• The new Tags toolbar filter supports Any and All matching, so a file can match at least one selected tag or every selected tag. The chosen mode is kept between sessions.
• Automatic drum classification — scanning now recognizes confidently named Bass Drum, Snare Drum, Closed/Open Hi-hat, Clap, Cymbal, Rim, Tom, and Perc one-shots from their names and folder paths.

Changes

• The file list now has 13 columns, including Tags, and the toolbar has seven filters.
• Rescanning may fill files that currently have No category, but it never replaces an existing category, favorite, or comment. Ambiguous files and loop or FX candidates remain uncategorized.
• Choosing No category clears the current category and allows the next rescan to try automatic drum classification again.

Fixes

• Opening the tag picker now places the cursor in its input field immediately.
• Double-clicking the Tags cell of a selected file no longer collapses a multi-selection before the picker opens.
• File-list loading errors now appear as a notification instead of looking like an empty library.
• Removing a tag used by the active Tags filter now refreshes the results immediately.

• The Inspector now shows each sample's absolute Peak and RMS levels in dBFS, with contextual hints explaining how the measurements are calculated.
• Existing libraries do not need a full rescan: missing levels are calculated automatically the first time a sample is shown in the Inspector, then cached and saved for future sessions.

• New scans and rescans now calculate and store Peak and RMS alongside the existing WAV metadata and waveform preview.
• Peak is measured across all channels, while RMS covers the entire file, including leading and trailing silence. Floating-point WAV levels above 0 dBFS remain visible instead of being clamped.

• The file list now includes sortable Peak and RMS columns. Levels are shown as compact dBFS values, while samples without saved measurements display `—` and remain at the end of the sort order.
• A new Rescan action in the folder context menu recursively scans only the selected source or subfolder. It is available in both Compact and Flat tree modes and is disabled while another scan is running.

Changes

• Selecting an older sample in the Inspector now fills its missing Peak and RMS values in the file list without triggering background analysis while browsing or scrolling. A full rescan remains the explicit way to calculate levels for an entire existing library.

• Expanded folder branches and their file counts now refresh without collapsing after a scan completes.
• Peak and RMS values calculated by the Inspector are no longer replaced by an older file-list response that finishes loading later.

New

• Category distribution in the stats popover — the panel opened from Total in the status bar is now split into two tabs. Format keeps the five distributions by file properties, and the new Categories tab shows how many files carry each category and how many are still unmarked (the No category row). Like every other legend row, they filter the list — plain click, Shift+click to combine, click again to clear. The active tab is remembered until the app is restarted.
• A colour of its own for every category — all nine drum categories used to share one orange, which made them indistinguishable in the stats legend. Each category now has a distinct colour, used both by the chips in the file list and by the legend.
• Seven new categories — Ride, Keys, Lead, Pad, Strings, Brass, and Sequence, bringing the list from 16 to 23. Vox is now labelled Vocal; markup already assigned to it is untouched. Ride is only ever assigned by hand — automatic classification still puts `ride` samples in Cymbal.
• Exact file name search — put a name in double quotes and only files named exactly that stay in the list.
• The transport panel is always on screen — playback buttons, the time counter, and the volume slider no longer disappear together with the waveform. The toolbar toggle now controls the waveform only, and hiding it collapses the panel down to the transport strip without interrupting playback: the player keeps playing and the time counter runs without a gap. The transport stays in full in compact mode too.
• Support the project — a muted link at the bottom of the About popover, leading to the donation page.

Changes

• The Name column no longer shows the `.wav` extension. Inspector still shows it, dimmed.

Depot v2026.8.23

New

• Interface scale — six steps from 80 % to 150 % (80 / 90 / 100 / 110 / 125 / 150) that resize everything at once: text, icons, buttons, panels. Use the `−` and `+` buttons in the settings panel to step through the sizes, or click the percentage itself to pick any of the six from a list. `Cmd/Ctrl +`, `Cmd/Ctrl −` and `Cmd/Ctrl 0` do the same from the keyboard. The chosen size is remembered between sessions.
• The window resizes together with the interface — a larger scale gives you a larger window, so the file list keeps showing the same amount of content.
• The current scale is shown in the window title — `Depot` at 100 % and `Depot [125%]` on every other step, so the size is visible without opening the settings.
• The toolbar folds itself up when the window is too narrow — at a large interface scale or in a narrow window the toolbar content moves into a single `⋯` button at its right edge, in two steps: first the three panel switches, then the search field, which would otherwise be cut off.
• Automatic Ride detection — scanning now recognises ride cymbals by file name and puts them in the Ride category instead of the general Cymbal. As before, only files with `No category` are touched: any category you assigned by hand stays as it is.

Fixes

• A pack name no longer strips the category from the samples inside it. Folders such as `Prime Loops`, `Crates & Breaks` or `KXVI - TAPE BREAKS DRUM KIT` name a shop shelf, not the role of a file, and used to leave every one-shot inside them — down to `One Shots/Snares/*.wav` — with no category at all. The loop and FX rules now read the file name and the two nearest folders only.
• Stems are recognised as loop material and stay uncategorised: files in folders like `Raw Cratez Stems` used to be classified as one-shots.

Depot v2026.8.28

New

• Rescan is much faster — a file whose size and modification time have not changed since last time is not opened at all, so a second pass over an unchanged folder takes a fraction of the first one, and its duration depends on how much has changed rather than on the size of the library.
• Missing section in the sidebar — every file that is no longer on disk is collected in one place, with its own counter. Missing files no longer show up anywhere else.
• A summary after every scan — a message tells you how many files went missing, how many came back and whether some folders could not be read.
• Folders are checked when you expand them in the tree — expanding a folder reads it from disk anyway, so Depot now compares it with the library at the same time: files that are gone, and whole vanished subfolders, move to Missing immediately, and a folder restored with its contents reappears in the tree. You no longer have to run a full Rescan to find out.
• Double-click checks a missing file right away — a double-click on a row in the Missing section asks the disk about that one file without scanning anything else.
• Markup of a missing file is frozen — category, tags, favorite and comment cannot be changed while the file is away, so the markup waits for it exactly as it was.

Changes

• Total, the sidebar counters and the distribution panel now count only the samples that are actually available — missing files are left out, the same way the folder tree has always counted them.
• The filter pills follow the Missing section too: inside it they offer the values of the missing files, and everywhere else those values are gone.

Depot v2026.8.31

New

• Duplicate finder — a new *Duplicates* item in the sidebar. One click searches the whole library for copies by comparing values Depot already measured during scanning: duration, size, channels, bit depth, sample rate, Peak and RMS. File contents are not re-read, so the search runs in seconds.
• Two match kinds — green for full copies where the name matches too, yellow for the same file saved under a different name. A copy re-saved in another format is not treated as a duplicate.
• Groups at a glance — rows of one group sit together, tinted in their match colour; neighbouring groups differ in tint strength and are split by a hairline. Hovering a row outlines it instead of washing the group colour away.
• Dedicated columns in this view — a checkbox square on the left, and the file's folder in place of the comment column, since that is what you look at when choosing which copy to drop. Clicking the Folder header reorders whole groups by folder (alphabetical, click again to reverse) without breaking them.
• Marking copies — the squares on the left are a separate "to delete" set, not the row selection. A square is toggled only by clicking the square itself; Shift-clicking a square marks a contiguous run. Clicking a row elsewhere still selects it for preview without touching the squares.
• View filters — three pills in the panel above the list: match kind (🟢 full copies, 🟡 renamed), group size, and folder (with a copy count each, most-populated first). Each pill's options are narrowed by the other two.
• Check folder — one button marks every copy inside the chosen folder and leaves copies of the same samples elsewhere alone, so the library can be cleaned folder by folder. Earlier marks are kept.
• Deleting marked copies — Remove from Library (rows leave the library, files stay on disk and return on the next rescan, without their markup) and Move to Trash (files go to the system Trash / Recycle Bin). Both ask for confirmation with the file count.
• Move markup to the copies you keep — an optional switch: before deletion, tags, favourite, comments and category of the marked copies are handed to the surviving ones.

Changes

• Moving a file, a selection, or a whole folder to the Trash / Recycle Bin now always asks for confirmation and names what is going. Previously only permanent deletion was confirmed.
