Transgressive Fiction Night: краткий экскурс в современный экстрим-хоррор и чтение повести «Коллекционер жуков»
В воскресенье, 8 февраля, проводим чтение неизданного авторского перевода повести Рэта Джеймса Уайта «Коллекционер жуков». Мы поговорим о литературной трансгрессии и истоках экстрим-хоррора, прочитаем фрагмент текста, а затем в свободном формате обсудим повесть и трудности перевода радикальной литературы на русский язык.
Трансгрессивная беллетристика со времён Апулея служила инструментом расширения границ дозволенного. Для многих авторов трансгрессия становилась способом осуждения, подрыва и разрушения социальных норм, признанных приемлемыми. Эта традиция тянется от сочинений маркиза де Сада и Лотреамона через Жоржа Батая и Джеймса Джойса и получает новое, телесное воплощение в работах современных авторов.
Рэт Джеймс Уайт — бывший кикбоксер мирового уровня в тяжёлом весе, перформанс-художник и уличный боец, сегодня известный как автор одних из самых тревожных и жестоких произведений современной художественной прозы.
Главный герой повести, Джоуи, одержим крайне необычной парафилией, которая разрушила его здоровье, уничтожила его некогда привлекательную внешность и сделала его изгоем, парией. Теперь этот ужасающий фетиш угрожает самой его жизни, отдавая Джоуи во власть глубоко травмированной и разъярённой женщины, у которой к нему серьёзные счёты.

Transgressive Fiction Night: a brief introduction to contemporary extreme horror and a reading of the novella The Bug Collector
On Sunday, February 8, we are hosting a reading of an unpublished author’s translation of Rat James White’s novella The Bug Collector. We will talk about literary transgression and the origins of extreme horror, read an excerpt from the text, and then hold an open discussion of the novella and the challenges of translating radical literature into Russian.
Since the time of Apuleius, transgressive fiction has served as a tool for expanding the boundaries of what is permitted. For many authors, transgression became a way to condemn, undermine, and dismantle social norms deemed acceptable. This tradition stretches from the works of the Marquis de Sade and Lautréamont through Georges Bataille and James Joyce, and finds a new, corporeal embodiment in the work of contemporary writers.
Rat James White is a former world-class heavyweight kickboxer, performance artist, and street fighter, now known as the author of some of the most disturbing and brutal works in contemporary fiction.
The novella’s protagonist, Joey, is obsessed with an extremely unusual paraphilia that has destroyed his health, ruined his once attractive appearance, and turned him into an outcast, a pariah. Now this horrifying fetish threatens his very life, placing Joey at the mercy of a deeply traumatized and enraged woman who has serious scores to settle with him.
