Chicago shooting: Five dead and gunman on the run after attack at July 4 parade
Police are hunting a gunman who killed six people and injured 24 when he sprayed bullets from a rooftop into a July 4 parade near Chicago.
Bloodied parade-goers scattered in panic leaving blankets and baby strollers behind, after gunfire erupted 10 minutes after the parade started in Highland Park, an affluent suburban city.
The shooter, a white man described as slightly-built with long black hair and aged between 18-20, is still at large. He is believed to have fired from the roof of a shop, police said.
The gunman was described as “armed and dangerous” by local police chief, Chris O’Neill, who added that one firearm had been recovered from the scene.
Witnesses reported hearing at least 20 shots as police pleaded with people to disperse.
The shooting is the latest in a series of mass killings in the US. On May 14, 10 people died after a gunman attacked shoppers at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York.

"It is symbolic that exactly ten years ago, we also met here, and it was your first visit to Russia as the President of the People's Republic of China. Since then, we have made great strides in developing our relations. <...>
You personally and all of our Chinese friends devote much attention to Russia-China relations, taking a fair and balanced stance on the majority of topical international issues," Vladimir Putin noted, in part, during his meeting with Xi Jinping.
