Seriousness of Debt ❗️

◾️We were sitting with the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) when he raised his head towards the sky, then he put his palm on his forehead and said: “Subhaan-Allaah! What a strict issue has been revealed to me!” We remained silent and were afraid. The following morning I asked him, “O Messenger of Allaah, what is this strict issue that has been revealed?” He said, “By the One in Whose hand is my soul, if a man were killed in battle for the sake of Allaah, then brought back to life, then killed and brought back to life again, then killed, and he owed a debt, he would not enter Paradise until his debt was paid off.”

Classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Nasaa’i, 4367.

◾️The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) refrained from offering the funeral prayer for one who had died owing two dinars, until Abu Qataadah (may Allaah be pleased with him) promised to pay it off for him. When he saw him the following day and said, I have paid it off, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Now his skin has become cool for him.”

Musnad Ahmad (3/629); classed as hasan by al-Nawawi in al-Khalaasah (2/931) and by Ibn Muflih in al-Adaab al-Shar’iyyah (1/104).

◾️Al-Haafiz Ibn Hajar (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in Fath al-Baari (4/547):

This hadeeth indicates how difficult the issue of debt is, and that it should not be undertaken except in cases of necessity. End quote.

◾️It was narrated from Thawbaan (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“Whoever dies free from three things – arrogance, cheating and debt – will enter Paradise.”

Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (1572); classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi.

◾️It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“The soul of the believer is suspended because of his debt until it is paid off.”

Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (1078).

◾️Al-Mubaarakfoori said in Tuhfat al-Ahwadhi (4/164):

The words “the soul of the believer is suspended” – al-Suyooti said: i.e., it is detained and kept from reaching its noble destination. Al-‘Iraaqi said: i.e., no judgement is passed as to whether it will be saved or doomed until it is determined whether his debt will be paid off or not. End quote.

It was also narrated that many of the salaf warned against debt:

◾️It was narrated that ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:

Beware of debt, for it starts with worry and it ends with war.

Narrated by Maalik in al-Muwatta’ (2/770).

◾️In Musannaf ‘Abd al-Razzaaq (3/57) it says:

Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:

O Humraan, fear Allaah and do not die in debt, lest it be taken from your good deeds when there will be no dinars and no dirhams.

◾️Our scholars said: It is a disgrace and a humiliation because it preoccupies the mind and makes one worried about paying it off, and makes one feel humiliated before the lender when meeting him, and feeling that he is doing one a favour when accepting a delay in payment. Perhaps he may promise himself that he will pay it off then break that promise, or speak to the lender and lie to him, or swear an oath to him then break it, and so on. Moreover, he may die without having paid off the debt so he will be held hostage because of it, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The soul of the believer is held hostage by his debt in his grave until it is paid off.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 1078. All of that undermines one’s religious commitment.

▫️However, if you intend to pay it back, strive hard to do so and leave instructions on how to pay it back then in shaa Allaah Allaah will pay it on your behalf as is states:

◾️The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The one who takes people’s wealth intending to pay it back, Allaah will pay it back for him, and the one who takes it intending to destroy it, Allaah will destroy him.”
Narrated by al-Bukhaari (2387).

And

◾️Ahmad (24455) narrated that ‘Aa’ishah said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever among my ummah takes on a debt then tries hard to pay it off, but dies without having done so, I am his wali (i.e., I am responsible for his debt).”

Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh at-Targheeb (1800).

And

◾️At-Tabaraani narrated in al-Mu‘jam al-Kabeer (1049) that Maymoonah said: I heard the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) say: “Whoever takes on a debt, intending to pay it off, Allah will pay it off on his behalf on the Day of Resurrection.”

Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami‘ (5986).

▫️So make sure you write in your will, instructions to your heirs, on how to pay off your debts and strive hard to pay it off in the dunya and in shaa Allaah Allaah will pay it off for you.
✒️ Narrated Anas:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

"When a human being is laid in his grave and his companions return and he even hears their footsteps, two angels come to him and make him sit and ask him: What did you use to say about this man, Muhammad ? He will say: I testify that he is Allah's slave and His Apostle. Then it will be said to him, 'Look at your place in the Hell-Fire. Allah has given you a place in Paradise instead of it.' " The Prophet (ﷺ) added, "The dead person will see both his places. But a non-believer or a hypocrite will say to the angels, 'I do not know, but I used to say what the people used to say! It will be said to him, 'Neither did you know nor did you take the guidance (by reciting the Qur'an).' Then he will be hit with an iron hammer between his two ears, and he will cry and that cry will be heard by whatever approaches him except human beings and jinns."

🕋*Dhul Hijjah*🕋

▫️This season of worship brings many benefits, such as the opportunity to correct one’s faults and make up for any shortcomings or anything that one might have missed. Every one of these special occasions involves some kind of worship through which the slaves may draw closer to Allaah, and some kind of blessing though which Allaah bestows His favour and mercy upon whomsoever He will. The happy person is the one who makes the most of these special months, days and hours and draws nearer to his Lord during these times through acts of worship; he will most likely be touched by the blessing of Allaah and will feel the joy of knowing that he is safe from the flames of Hell. (Ibn Rajab, al-Lataa’if, p.8)

▫️Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him and his father) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

"There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allaah than these ten days." The people asked, "Not even jihaad for the sake of Allaah?" He said, "Not even jihaad for the sake of Allaah, except in the case of a man who went out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the cause, and came back with nothing."

▫️The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) encouraged people to do righteous deeds because of the virtue of this season, for people throughout the world, and also because of the virtue of the place - for the Hujjaaj (pilgrims) to the Sacred House of Allaah.

▫️The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) commanded us to recite a lot of Tasbeeh ("Subhan-Allaah"), Tahmeed ("Al-hamdu Lillaah") and Takbeer ("Allaahu akbar") during this time.

▫️‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him and his father) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "There are no days greater in the sight of Allaah and in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Him than these ten days, so during this time recite a great deal of Tahleel ("La ilaaha ill-Allaah"), Takbeer and Tahmeed."

(Reported by Ahmad, 7/224; Ahmad Shaakir stated that it is saheeh).

▫️These ten days include Yawm ‘Arafaah (the Day of ‘Arafaah), on which Allaah perfected His Religion. Fasting on this day will expiate for the sins of two years. These days also include Yawm al-Nahar (the Day of Sacrifice), the greatest day of the entire year and the greatest day of Hajj, which combines acts of worship in a way unlike any other day.
These ten days include the days of sacrifice and of Hajj.

▫️The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to fast on the first nine days of Dhu’l-Hijjah. It was narrated from Hunaydah ibn Khaalid from his wife, that one of the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to fast on the first nine days of Dhu’l-Hijjah and the day of ‘Ashoora’, and three days each month, the first Monday of the month and two Thursdays.

Narrated by al-Nasaa’i, 4/205 and by Abu Dawood; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 2/462.
Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said:

"A Muslim is a brother of another Muslim, so he should not oppress him, nor should he hand him over to an oppressor. Whoever fulfilled the needs of his brother, Allah will fulfill his needs; whoever brought his (Muslim) brother out of a discomfort, Allah will bring him out of the discomforts of the Day of Resurrection, and whoever screened a Muslim, Allah will screen him on the Day of Resurrection . "

✒️ Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said:

"Whoever has oppressed another person concerning his reputation or anything else, he should beg him to forgive him before the Day of Resurrection when there will be no money (to compensate for wrong deeds), but if he has good deeds, those good deeds will be taken from him according to his oppression which he has done, and if he has no good deeds, the sins of the oppressed person will be loaded on him."

Virtues of the day of Arafah

Asalaamu’alaykum everyone try to fast tomorrow as it is the day of Arafah. On this day Allaah perfected His religion upon us and He saves more people from the Hell Fire, on this day than any other.

1) As mentioned in: Al-Saheehayn it was reported from ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab (may Allaah be pleased with him)

that a Jewish man said to him: “O Ameer al-Mu’mineen, there is an aayah in your Book which you recite; if it had come to us Jews, we would have taken that day as an ‘Eid (festival).”

‘Umar said, “Which aayah?”

He said: “This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.” [al-Maa’idah 5:3 – interpretation of the meaning].

‘Umar said, “We know on which day and in which place that was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). It was when he was standing in ‘Arafaah on a Friday.”

2) It was reported from Abu Qutaadah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)

was asked about fasting on the Day of ‘Arafaah.

He said, “It expiates for the sins of the previous year and of the coming year.”

Narrated by Muslim.

3) In Saheeh Muslim it was narrated from ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“There is no day on which Allaah frees more people from the Fire than the Day of ‘Arafaah.

He comes close and expresses His pride to the angels, saying, ‘What do these people want?’”

It was reported from Ibn ‘Umar that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“Allaah expresses His pride to His angels at the time of ‘Ishaa’ on the Day of ‘Arafaah, about the people of ‘Arafaah.

He says, ‘Look at My slaves who have come unkempt and dusty.’”

Narrated by Ahmad and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani.
Three days after Eid (Tashreeq)

▪️Fasting on the two days of Eid is haraam, as indicated by the hadeeth of Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said:

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade fasting on the day of al-Fitr and al-Nahr.”

📖 Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1992; Muslim, 827.

The scholars are unanimously agreed that fasting on these two days is haraam.

▪️It is also haraam to fast on the days of al-Tashreeq which are the three days after Eid al-Adha (the 11th, 12th and 13th of Dhu’l-Hijjah)

because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “

The days of al-Tashreeq are days of eating, drinking and remembering Allaah.”

▪️Abu Dawood (2418) narrated from Abu Murrah the freed slave of Umm Haani that he entered with ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Amr upon his father ‘Amr ibn al-‘Aas.

He offered them food and said, “Eat.” He said, “I am fasting.” ‘Amr said: “Eat, for these are the days on which the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) would tell us not to fast and forbade us to fast, and these are the days of al-Tashreeq.”

📖 Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

▪️Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen said:

It is permissible for those who are doing Hajj qiraan or tamattu’, if they cannot find a hadiy, to fast these three days so that the Hajj season will not end before they fast.

But apart from that it is not permissible to fast on these days, even if a person is obliged to fast for two consecutive months; he should not fast on the day of Eid and the three days following it, but then he should continue his fast.

Jannah without being brought to account

▪️Imaam al-Bukhaari (may Allaah have mercy on him) narrated in his Saheeh from Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“I was shown the nations, and some Prophets passed by with a few followers, and some Prophets passed by with no followers. Then I was shown a great multitude, and I said, ‘What is this? Is this my ummah?’ It was said, ‘No, this is Moosa and his people.’ It was said, ‘Look at the horizon.’ There I saw a huge multitude filling the horizon. And it was said, ‘Look there, and there, on the horizons of the sky.’ There was a multitude filling the horizons. It was said, ‘This is your ummah, and of these, seventy thousand will enter Paradise without being brought to account.’”
Then he [the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)] went inside, without explaining further. The people started to discuss what he had said, saying, “We are the ones who have believed in Allaah and followed His Messenger; we are they” or, “It is our children who were born in Islam whilst we were born in Jaahiliyyah.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) heard about what was being said, so he came out and said: “They are the ones who do not seek ruqya, do not believe in bad omens and do not use branding; they put their trust in their Lord…”

▫️What the hadeeth means is that there is a group of this ummah who will enter Paradise without being brought to account, not that the number of inhabitants of Paradise from this ummah is seventy thousand. The seventy thousand referred to in this hadeeth are of a high status in this ummah because of some special qualities that they have, as mentioned in the hadeeth: “They are the ones who do not seek ruqya, do not believe in bad omens and do not use branding; they put their trust in their Lord…”

▪️Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say:

‘A group of my ummah seventy thousand strong will enter Paradise, with their faces shining like the moon.”

▫️There is good news for all of us Muslims in this hadeeth and others.

▪️There is more information in a report narrated in the Musnad of Imaam Ahmad and the Sunan of al-Tirmidhi and Ibn Maajah, where Abu Umaamah is reported to have said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“My Lord promised me that seventy thousand of my ummah will enter Paradise without being brought to account or being punished; with each thousand of them will be another seventy thousand, plus three handfuls of the handfuls of my Lord, may He be glorified.”

▫️We ask Allaah to make us among them. Just imagine: seventy thousand, with each thousand of whom is another seventy thousand – how great will be the total number of people who will enter Paradise without being brought to account? How many will be in each handful “scooped up” by the Merciful, Compassionate, Generous Almighty Lord? We ask Allaah to make us among that number.

Ameen!
The Last Person in Jannah

▪️It was narrated from ‘Abdullah ibn Mas‘ood (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said:

“I know the last of the people of Hell to be brought forth, and the last of the people of Paradise to enter therein. It will be a man who will emerge crawling from Hell, and Allah will say to him: ‘Go and enter Paradise.’ He will come to it and it will appear to him to be full. He will go back and say, ‘O Lord, I found it full.’ Allah, may He be blessed and exalted, will say to him: ‘Go and enter Paradise.’ He will go to it and it will appear to him to be full. He will go back and say, ‘O Lord, I found it full.’ Allah, may He be blessed and exalted, will say to him: ‘Go and enter Paradise, and you will have the equivalent of the whole world and ten times as much.’ He will say, ‘Are You mocking me – or laughing at me – when You are the Sovereign?’” He said: And I saw the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) smile so broadly that his molars appeared. And he used to say: “That will be the lowest of the people of Paradise in status.”

📍Virtues of Friday 📍

▪️It was narrated that Abu Lubaabah ibn ‘Abd al-Mundhir said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“Friday is the master of days, and the greatest of them before Allaah. It is greater before Allaah than the day of al-Adha and the day of al-Fitr. It has five characteristics: on this day Allaah created Adam, on it He sent Adam down to the earth, on it Allaah caused Adam to die, on it there is a time when a person does not ask Allaah for anything but He gives it to him, so long as he does not ask for anything haraam, and on it the Hour will begin. There is no angel who is close to Allaah, no heaven, no earth, no wind, no mountain and no sea that does not fear Friday.”

📖 Narrated by Ibn Maajah, 1084; classed as hasan by Shaykh al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, no. 2279

▪️It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar said: The Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“The best prayer before Allaah is Fajr prayer on Friday in congregation.”

📖 Narrated by al-Bayhaqi in Shu’ab al-Eemaan; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 1119

▪️It was narrated that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Amr said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“There is no Muslim who dies during the day of Friday or the night of Friday but Allaah will protect him from the trial of the grave.”

⚠️ Importance Of Intentions ⚠️

*(Niyyah)*

▪️It is narrated on the authority of Amir al-Mu'minin (Leader of the Believers), Abu Hafs 'Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allaah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace be upon him), say:

"Actions are according to intentions, and everyone will get what was intended. Whoever migrates with an intention for Allaah and His messenger, the migration will be for the sake of Allaah and his Messenger. And whoever migrates for worldly gain or to marry a woman, then his migration will be for the sake of whatever he migrated for."

📖 Related by Bukhari & Muslim

▪️The Messenger of Allaah (peace be upon him) said:

“Mankind will be resurrected upon their intentions.”

📖 Saheeh Muslim

▪️Abdullaah ibn Mubaarak (May Allaah have mercy on him) said:

”An action may be small, but it is magnified by the intention (behind it); and it may be that an action is big, but it is made small by the intention (behind it)”

▪️Sufyaan Ath-Thawree, may Allaah have mercy on him, said:

“There is nothing more difficult upon me to observe, than my intention, as it is always changing.”

▪️ Yahya ibn Abu Kathir said,

"Learn your intention for it is more serious than the action."

▪️Zayd ash-Shami said,

"Verily I like that I have an intention for everything even if it be eating and drinking."

And he also said, "Have intention for everything, desiring the good, even if it be leaving for the toilet."

⚠️ A Forgotten Sunnah ⚠️

Visiting The Graves ❗️

▪️It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“Visit the graves, for they will remind you of the Hereafter.”

📖 Reported by Ibn Maajah and others. Graded authentic by Albany rahimahullah.

▫️It is unfortunate now that it takes someone to die for the only time for us to go to the graveyard, perhaps we drive pass the graveyard on a number of occasions and yet never think to stop by and pay a visit.

May Allaah pardon us for our short-comings.

▪️Ponder over the ayah:

‎أَلْهَاكُمُ التَّكَاثُرُ

“The mutual rivalry for piling up worldly things diverts you”

‎حَتَّى زُرْتُمُ الْمَقَابِرَ

” Until you visit the graves (i.e. till you die).” [102:1-2]

▫️Let it not be the only time you visit the graves be the time when you are actually dead.
*Description of Hell-Fire*

A man asked Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud (RadhiAllahu Anhu):

حدثنا عن النار كيف هي ؟

‘Narrate to us that how is the Hell fire?’

«قال لو رأيتها لزال قلبك من مكانه»

Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud (RadhiAllahu Anhu) said:

‘If you saw it, your heart would move from its place.’

Whoever asks Allaah for Jannah

Anas Ibn Malik radiallahu anahu said that the Prophet sallahu alayhi wa salam said:

من سأل اللهَ الجنةَ ثلاثَ مراتٍ قالت الجنةُ : اللهم أَدخِلْه الجنةَ ، ومن استجار من النارِ ثلاثَ مراتٍ قالت النارُ : اللهمَّ أَجِرْه من النَّارِ

Whoever asks Allah for Jannah three times, Jannah says: Oh Allah enter him into Jannah.

And whoever seeks protection from the Hellfire three times, Hellfire says: Oh Allah protect him from the fire

The Prohibition of Littering ⚠️

▪️Ibn ul-’Uthaymeen rahimahullah:

“The conclusion is that everything that harms should be removed from the street. You will be rewarded for that deed. Therefore, if removing harm from the street is an act of charity, then throwing harm in the street is a sin. Amongst those who are sinful are those who throw their garbage in the middle of the street.”

▪️Shaikh Abdul-Muhsin al-’Abbad was asked:

Question:

What is the ruling on throwing harm in the street?

Answer:

“No doubt it is sinful for him to throw harm instead of removing it from the street. This is similar to one who urinates in the street. However his statement sallahu alayhi wa salam: “Beware of the two sources of curses” is intended to mean the one who relieves himself in the street or the shade of the people which they use to shade”

▪️The danger of Throwing Harm in the Street

Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas said:

“Beware of action that will incur cursing: that a person throw his garbage in the street. So no one passes the street except he says: may Allah curse the one who did this”

▪️Reward of Removing Something Harmful From the Street

The Prophet sallahu alayhi wa salam said:

Removing harmful things from the way is charity

📖 [Agreed Upon]

▪️And he said:

And removing something harmful from the street is charity or prayer

▪️[Reported by al-Bazzar (1/438) and al-Haythami said in al-Majma’: reported by Abu Ya’la, Bazzar, and Tabarani in al-Kabir

▪️Shaikh Ibn ul-‘Uthaymeen rahimahullah said:

“If you find in the street a rock or glass or thorns or other than that, then remove it, then that is from Imaan. Even cars which are parked in the middle of the street and make it narrow for the people. So they harm the people in the street and removing that is from Imaan”

▪️What if you cannot remove it?

Shaikh Ibn ul-’Uthaymeen said: “so like this it is necessary to remove the harm from the street. If he is not able to, like there is a big rock or piles of sand or the likes, then let him convey it to the Municipality, for example, because they are responsible for this. So let him convey it to them so that he can be from those who help in righteousness and piety”

▪️Question:

“Is it allowed to say that the one who throws something harmful in the street is deficient in Imaan?”

Answer:

“Yes, not doubt he is deficient in Imaan because this is abuse and harm to the people”
