🇺🇸 USAF looks to stock up on bunker busting fuzes
Despite having awarded @NGCNews a $92 million 5 year sole source IDIQ contract in Sept 2023 for FMU-167/B Hard Target Void Sensing Fuzes, the US Air Force is already releasing a new RFI asking for a minimum production rate of 3000 units per year.
FMU-167/B equips the BLU-109 (2000lb) & BLU-113 (5000lb) penetration bombs.
The USAF had budgeted for the procurement of 2500 fuzes in 2023, and requested no funds in 2024 & 2025.
There are currently no above the threshold FMS cases for FMU-167/B, though numerous countries have purchased BLU-109, including Israel, which also operates BLU-113. The BLU-109 was used to kill Hezbollah leader Nasrallah.
NGC owns the TDP for the fuze so its unlikely that any secondary source could be established.
