Ростовский братишка Таридонов Юрий Олегович 2005 г.р. подписал контракт (причём, похоже, не меньше года назад) и полмесяца не дожил до 20 лет

RT @KofmanMichael: Bottom line, while I’m skeptical that European nations can deploy and sustain a large force in country, I also don’t think they have to. The initial requirements are not insurmountable and should not be exaggerated as an alibi for doing nothing.

RT @shashj: Ideas in the mix:
- Air cover over Ukraine with no or minimal troops on ground
- Monitoring force (pointless)
- Buffer force at LoC (authority to challenge Ru attack?)
- Symbolic force well to rear (lacks credibility)
- EfP type tripwire- but dangerous if not attached to US force

As a tabletop, it can still be useful in forcing European countries to stake stock, realize what the stakes are, and get shaken out of the current paralysis.

However, there's a long way from here to forces on the ground, as part of a "deal".

The Russians do have a vote.

RT @DrRadchenko: The record of Chinese Ambassador Li Fenglin's discussion with the Russian leadership, August 11, 1998. "China wants to see Russia strong. We must be together though they [the West] are putting us under pressure." 1998. Just think about it.

The other option is a unilateral European deployment to Ukraine, but this is a different ballgame.

I might be mistaken, but I have a feeling this isn't what the current discussions are about.
