🇺🇸🇮🇱 Phrasing here is a little awkward. This $8.7 billion is the security assistance that was appropriated by Congress back in April as part of the national security supplemental (with aid to 🇺🇦&🇹🇼 too). This announcement suggests that the Admin is ready to obligate those funds, including:

▶️ $3.5 billion in Foreign Military Financing
▶️ $4 billion in missile defense grants for Iron Dome & David's Sling
▶️ $1.2 billion in missile defense grants for Iron Beam

If you want more details, I will link my explanation thread below. ⬇️ https://twitter.com/Israel_MOD/status/1839310390343381360#m

@MariaJagcat: For USAI it should be happening right around when the commitment is publicly announced. The replacement decisions have taken months and years.

@Da___Wolf @Rebel44CZ @CavaCavanhas: Unit cost for the missile itself is a lot less than that. Total contract value includes lots of other costs, which are inflated since the production line was barely active.

RT @ThrustWR: Given the complexities involved in defending against hypersonics, the fact that GPI was down selected so early is weird. The program also faces funding challenges. Between FY24-28, the MDA planned to spend $1.7B on the program, but FY25 plans show only $1B between FY24-28.

@Rebel44CZ @Da___Wolf @CavaCavanhas: For the billionth time. You cannot divide the estimated program cost by the maximum approved unit quantity in FMS approval to determine the unit price of a defense article.

The whole point of the FMS program is that orders are bundled and placed in bulk to get better economies of scale. The unit cost for an identical defense article will be basically the same. Where costs get inflated is by associated equipment, services, and any applicable surcharges for the FMS case.

RT @Brendan_Duke: 60% of the imports Trump would tax come from six U.S. allies and neighbours:

🇨🇦Canada
🇬🇧UK
🇲🇽Mexico
🇪🇺EU
🇰🇷South Korea
🇯🇵Japan

These are the countries we should be working together with to counter China economically, not starting trade wars with.

@AndrewDesiderio: This is really overstating the impact that long-range strikes will have, but I understand why he is saying this.

Biden's constant delays mean that if the cuffs are ever taken off, Russia will have had a lot of time to mitigate the impacts. It is still important but not war winning, at this point.

🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇦 At the AUKUS press conference, Sec Austin & Min Healey are doing their best to ignore multiple questions on whether the US is going to continue to prohibit Ukraine from even using Storm Shadow & SCALP-EG missiles to strike deep into Russia.
